On the way into town today saw 7 birds outside one dealership
2red, 4black, 1white. At another ford dealership saw a red and
yellow on the used lot.
Are other parts of the country still seeing a large number of
of birds looking for a home or showing up on the used lots.

My Ford dealer has three 02's for sale (black, white, yellow) and one "03 (black). The 02's have been available at least since September or October.

For those of us who waited and waited....it is hard to get your mind around so many 'Birds just sitting on lots all over the place.
But they are....they're all over the Atlanta area on dealer lots.

One dealer in town here has 2 - 2002's, a Blue/Blue Premium no accent and a White/no hardtop Premium partial accent, and 2 - 2003's, a Blue/Blue Premium & a Red/Red Premium.

if you go to ford,s website where it allows you to"build" your own tbird it will allow you to punch in your zip code and compare to inventory of dealers in that area. it also will allow you to find any unsold 2002 new birds in inventory. i was able to find all colors of 02 except for the blue. the 03,s are not real plentifull but all colors including some 2 tones seem to be on the lots.

Why is this - do you suppose? Where did all these orphans come from? We had a terrible time finding one last August??:moreek: :moreek:

i would say it has a lot to do with the OUTRAGEOUS dealer markup put on the cars. production was not increased to flood the market as with the pt cruisers i have noticed that the 02s are starting to be discounted and the 03,s now have the mark up. i told the dealer that i would not even talk of buying mine unless they took the markup off and they did so because they knew the 03,s were coming

Back in Aug. some people that had ordered a Bird were still waiting for delivery. That meant that dealers that did get them in already had them sold. Now all ordered Birds, as far as 02's have been delivered and Ford pushed a few more on dealers that didn't have them sold. My dealer got two of those and last time I was out there they still had them on the lot. They already got 3 03's in that were ordered but still have the 2 02's sitting on the lot.
:cussing: This doesn't count the dealers that were greedy and tried to get way above MSRP for the ones they got in. And are still stuck with.

This is my story; I place my order for a Red bird with a White top back in June of 02. At that time, the dealer had already sold-out their first allotment and wasn't planning on getting any more. Well as we all know, Ford continued 02 production well into November. In September, I got a call from my dealer confirming my 03 order. At this time he offered me a similar styled 02 that was planning to arrive shortly. This is when I found that the dealer got a new 02 allotment of 8 cars. I’ve already been waiting so I figured what wrong with waiting a few more months for the 03. This is what I believe happened to may dealers. They thought that the second wave would fly out of the showrooms like the first grouping. Most didn’t.

While visiting the new Bond Bird yesterday the dealership had two '02 birds on the lot...a Red/Red premium and a yellow/yellow premium/partial. Both had MSRP of $40,XXX and were marked down to $36,750. I believe the yellow was $100 more than the red. My guess is that if you made them an offer, they'd go for it...

I have had 3 offers this week on new birds with a MSRP of 40,245 that they would let go for $36,300. That means the dealer is giving up all but $100 of the hold back. One dealer offered bird for $36,200 which was giving up all of the holdback. They just wanted to move it!
Ironically, one dealer (who still has 10 birds on the lot that he had bought from other dealers) is still asking MSRP. He had sold several earlier this year at large markups (5-10k) and hasn't sold once since September but still insists on MSRP. He says he isn't worried, I say he is a loser!

TRUCKLOAD, while running errands today, I passed a car hauler loaded with new Thunderbirds. 3 Corals with white tops, one red, one white and one sky blue. Wish I had the camera, but cloudy and snowy and lousy lighting. Headed south out of Detroit on I 75.

I thought Ford wasn't going to be running these colors together.
May have misunderstood but wasn't a comment made that
blue would be shut down for the coral run.

i believe thats correct but the cars are held in the plant's lot for shipping and when there is a group going to the same location then they load a car hauler.
here in kansas city at the gran prix plant they bring in trucks and other gm cars and mix them with the gran prix to be shipped in one area. most cost affective

Passed by one of our local Ford dealerships on Saturday, and they had at LEAST 10-12 02's sitting on the lot...same dealership that was charging an incredible 20K over MSRP last year...didn't stop by to see what they were charging, but in a way, I'm glad to see that they are sitting there...as greedy as this dealership seems to be, I wouldn't mind seeing them break even, or even take a loss, on these '02's. :nono:

whvt01, that's what we heard but have also heard that the blue would be built thru mid January, 2 weeks after the 007 editions started. Makes me think that the blue will come back again later- IF they really stopped production of them. It also reminds me of the Thunderbird blue and yellow - that were planned to be built at different times but plans changed and they were built continuously thru the whole 2002 production run.
There doesn't seem to be as an intense interest from buyers in how things are going at the plant this year so we're not getting as much feedback now as we did last year so some rumors take longer to establish if they're fact or fiction.

It would be interesting to know. The Desert Sky is a
nice shade of blue and appears to be very popular. For
Ford to stop production would be a surprise. Like you
said they didn't follow the statements made on the
Thunderbird Blue and Yellow. I would also be interested
in hearing about the 03 productions numbers. With the
replys on how many are still sitting on lots, would think
they might be adjusting volume downward.

whvt01,
I agree that the Desert Sky Blue should be a keeper for Ford right now.
The dealerships in my area seem to be able to keep the 03s moving off the lot, while the 02s are still sitting there. My dealer has been able to move some of the late 02s but still has 3 on the lot and theirs have always been at MSRP while other dealers in the area wanted 3K to 10K over. They're probably not too concerned about moving the ones sitting there as long as the 03s are moving off at a steady rate - that means they always have some to show a potential customer and can even give test drives.

Back on the subject of plentiful Birds, I've noticed here in the Phoenix valley that every dealership has at least one red one out on their turntable...haven't seen anything but reds in the lots, and that is understandable here in Phoenix as red is not as popular a color as back east due to the sun...

Sometimes I feel like I must live near the end of the world! Here in Oregon (outside the Portland area), there are NO extra t-birds anywhere. Our local dealer hasn't gotten an '03 yet, though I've seen 1 mountain shadow grey and 1 white '03 within a 40 mile radius.
Even at the mega-dealerships around Portland, the most I've seen is 4 birds on a lot. And everyone is still trying to mark them up, too!
