Hammer55, RedbirdDave & my wife & I are getting together in Old Sacramento tomorrow morning. It ain't much but it's three Birds gathered. Archie, how about if we of the comatose CA. chapter do some brainstorming & get an event together? We plan on doing a bit of that tomorrow. You can count me in for some help in the planning. I'm sure there are others who would help as well. I recently suggested the possibility of the 2006 Monterey Historics after reading Bobs post about going to this years races. Partial response was it was too early to think about next year. So maybe we should try for something this fall. I also suggested Lake Almanor & Plumas Pines Resort some months age & that just got other suggestions & died a painful death. I'll help, but it won't be easy to get a consensus. It's more like herding cats! :werd:

Since California is a rather large state, I think we need to get several core groups to meet like DON fox and I are tomorrow. Archie you would be an excellent leader for Southern California. We have 55 members in the California Chapter, and I would guess we have around 20 TBNers that have not checked in yet.
We have several members in the San Joaquin Valley, like SugarDaddy, who could lead a discussion of possible meets. The Fresno area would be good for Northern and Southern California.
California has so many great places for meets. California like the rest of the country, had extended periods of over 100 degree days this year and not condusive to meets.
So we need to invest a little time in small groups and submit these ideas to the rest of the chapter so we could develop a calendar of events.

No shame in keeping busy. We're headed to the West Coast Nationals in Pleasanton this weekend. (Pre-1954 hot rods, etc.) But Lynn & I are always up to a Tbird gathering.
Carmel Valley - Wine tasting
Central Coast-Pismo
Monterey Bay.
It's all GOOD!

If four great minds are getting together tomorrow why not pick a date and a place and then see what type of response you receive?
I also like the idea of a Central CA meet. San Luis Obispo is half way between S.F. and L.A.

I'm an old Tahoe guy and that sounds good to me. Off season starts after Labor Day, it's way less crowded & better room rates. The weather stays beautiful (usually) into October. Beautiful country for cruisin', Virginia City close by for a side trip to see the Comstock Lode/Mark Twain country, gambling if that's your thing, good music in the casinos, Tahoe Queen for a lunch or dinner cruise on the Lake and then some. If we pick Tahoe, I'd be happy to be point man since it's familiar territory to me.
I think San luis Obispo is a great spot for a Large gathering since it's kind of mid-state. A large meet may take some time to pull off though. Hey, I'm tired of those east coast people having all the fun! :pinkie:

Maybe someday we can get the Califorina group and the Nevada group to meet in Tahoe. We can do it without even leaving our states, just have to yell across the street. LOL

One of the ultimate car club roads in CA is the stretch from Monterrey to San Simeon. You see Vette, Porsche and other groups out there alot. The stretch along Big Sur is one of most photographed roads in the world.

Both Tahoe and San Simeon sound like fun trips. Why not plan to do both? Tahoe before it starts snowing and then San Simeon.

Just got back from lunch with Hammer55 and RedbirdDave. Met up with Mark & Annie and Dave in Old Sac. We brainstormed a bit on some possible one day cruises and weekend meets. Dave will post the details later to hopefully get some feedback. We had lunch at the Tower Cafe & got to know each other better. We then went down to Land Park, lined up the Birds & took some pictures. Then we all headed for home. It was a really nice time & pictures will be posted soon. We lined up my Cashmere, Daves Torch Red and Marks Triple Black. Looked COOL! Stay tuned for cruisin' ideas. :smokin:

For the folks out there who aren't sure about getting involved in anything beyond their keyboards, listen to this. Today was my wifes' first ever caravan. Only three Birds and just a short cruise, but she realy loved it and had a wonderful time. She's still talking about it and the nice people she met. AND my wife's not a "car" gal, she indulges and supports me in the "car" thing. (great wife) So get off the fence and join in. The worst you can do is meet some good people and have some fun. If it isn't fun, you're already in your car, just hook a U-turn and head for home. Let's come up with some good event possibilities and then actually do them! :omg:

We'll need feedback on this. Yesterday Dave, Mark & I discussed some event possibilities. The main one I'd be willing to put together is a Spring 2006 meet in Lake Tahoe. Spring because it's probably too late now to even think about setting this up for this year. Here's some thoughts for an itinerary. There's LOTS to do there so this is open to revision. I'm thinking of the Cal-Neva Lodge on North Shore. #1 all the rooms have a lake view and there is the opportunity for secure/separate parking for our Birds. The South Shore offers glitzier casinos & big name entertainment, and if that is what people decide they want, we'll see what happens. I personally prefer North Shore for it's quieter more laid back old timey feel. Obviously we'll do a show & shine. I think a cruise to Virginia City is a must. The drive Down Mt. Rose highway and then UP the Geiger Grade to Virginia City is a drive to remember! Awesome scenery & gooood drivin! We could possibly see on old west gunfight as well as The Territorial Enterprise, where Mark Twain worked. Gold mine tours, Bucket of Blood Saloon etc.and we could wrap it up with a cruise back to the Lake "the back way from V.C. through Carson City & up Spooner Summit possibly stopping at South Shore for dinner & a show. A cruise on the sternwheeler Tahoe Queen offers a beautiful view of the Lakes' 70+ miles of shoreline. (it can also be a lunch/brunch cruise if we want) The national automobile collection (formerly Harrahs auto museum) is in Reno 45 minutes away. Which brings us to Reno, as well as Truckee. Both cool places to go. Truckee has Railroad history as well as some cool shops & food. Reno has entertainment, gambling of course, the car museum and more (it's Reno). Carson City, also 45 minutes away has the Nevada State Museum as well as a railroad museum and gambling, shopping etc. Entertainment at the casinos pretty much anywhere is going to be good. Back to the Lake. There's shopping, entertainment, good food, absolutely drop dead gorgeous scenery & pretty much anything you could want. This is a LOT of stuff, but I wanted to outline some of the possibilities. I'm willing to do the set up. (with some help of course) So what's the feed back? How does this sound for a general outline? :smokin:

Dependent upon the timing with Heartland Thunder we would like to go. Reno is 450 miles for us, so Tahoe would be close to the same seeing as how we cut off at Carson City and head up them thar hills.

Let's see what feedback comes in on the Lake Tahoe meet. Hopefully, if we get enough interest we can go forward. Spring isn't far off as far as organizing an event like this. So it would be good to lock it in and get a head count fairly soon. By the way, how do those activities seem? They would have to be set up as well. I realize we need to have some private/down time, so as things shake out, that will be planned for as well. I just posted all that stuff to get a feel for what people would want to do. So I need feedback on which activities folks are most interested in. I encourage everyone to go for the cruise of the Lake though. It's magnificent. The drive down Mt. Rose & up the Geiger Grade is a cruise to remember as well. So feedback please. Enough interest & I'll start the legwork on accommodations, venues etc. as well as possible dates.

Hey Californians,
There is a 1 or 2-day event coming up in Central California that you may want attend in your T-Birds.
Can you guess what event I am talking about?
This is the 50th anniversary of an sad, but important, event that happened September 30, 1955, at approximately 6:45 PM PDT at a lonely highway intersection in Central California.
The event is scheduled for Friday, September 30, 2005, at Cholame, CA. This little wide spot in the road is located near the intersection of Highways 41 and 46 in Central California. It is about halfway between I-5 and Paso Robles. Paso Robles is about 25 miles to the west. Most hotel rooms in Paso Robles are already booked up.
If you are planning to attend, it is recommended that you show up between noon and 3:00 PM on Friday.
Apparently there may be a half dozen car rallies converging on Cholame that day, including the "Little Birds" from the Santa Clara Valley Thunderbirds ('55-'57 T-Birds from San Jose).
There is also a Classic Car Show scheduled there for both Friday and Saturday, at the Jack Ranch Cafe parking lot. According the events web site, listed below, the show entry fee is $25 and must be received by September 15. If interested, call the Jack Ranch Cafe for an entry and details: (805) 238-5652 (see the event web site listed below). This fee is only if you plan on displaying your vehicle in the show. Apparently, there is no fee for viewing the classic car show.
For event information, see this web site:

For further information, see these web sites:

I am thinking about driving "Blackie" over from Fresno that Friday, and returning back to Fresno that same day. From here, it is about 96 miles, one-way to Cholame.
Let me hear if you interested in attending this event, driving there in your T-Bird.

The Spring '06 Lake Tahoe Meet discussion has been moved to the "Events" thread. Please start posting to that thread. It sounds like there's enough interest & folks willing to help set it up to at least continue the discussion. So see ya at the events thread! :high5:
