A last minute mini meet took place in Old Sacramento last Saturday. Hammer55, Don Fox and I (Red Bird Dave) met to discuss the lack of meet activities in our area.
Even with the 100 degree afternoon temps we had a great time. Don and Mark brought their delightful wives and we had a great time in Old Sac, and drove over to the Tower Cafe for a great lunch. We then stopped at Land Park for a photo session.
We came up with some ideas for locations for one day meets and weekenders. We felt regular one day meets would be good to get aquainted with TBNers in the area. These would include meeting for lunch and a nice caravan on back roads.
Don Fox would like to have a Tahoe area meet and he has outlined that in another thread.
The day trips ideas included: Old Sacramento, Bodega Bay, Coloma Gold Discovery Site, Pacific Ocean trip down highway 1 to Half Moon Bay, and Napa Valley as examples. We are fortunate to have so many sites in Northern California.
What we need now is feedback from chapter members.
The questions are:
1. Would you be interested in attending such meets?
2. Can you suggest alternate locations?
I realize that these questions do not have dates, but we are testing the level of interest. Weather conditions will be taken into consideration and we realize that due to other commitments not all will be able to attend every time.
I would encourage California Chapter members in Southern California to do the same and we can then promote joint meets.
WE NEED YOU IMPUT!

Jim,
I refer those places as God's Country!!
I will add that to the list. It would be a weekender. I could see us on the Avenue of the Giants!

I'd be up for a mini-meet. I wanna hear how one of these borla equipped cars sound. I'm out on the coast near Half Moon Bay, so I can give suggestions on coastal cruises.

Don, Is Old Sacramento anywhere near present day Sacramento?
Jim - not familiar with mid-Cal geography
I'm not sure if you're pulling my leg on this one Jim. But here goes. Old Sacramento is downtown next to the Sacramento River. Old Gold Rush architecture that's survived pretty much intact. Cobblestone streets (cruise real slow) It used to be called "the West End". I'm not sure why the change. Maybe to promote one day Thunderbird events. Sounds cooler than the West End, maybe? The State Railroad Museum is there and it is outstanding. Train ride possibilities if people are interested. A good cafe overlooking the river with a great deck. They cater to large parties & will give us the deck if we want. There's a couple of good areas for a show & shine, or de-bug & wipedown since it's one day. There's a bunch of shops, Downtown Plaza Mall two blocks away. Riverboat cruise potential if we wish. Good coffee and some places that dispense adult beverages. There are some reasonable motels nearby, & a Holiday Inn two blocks away if folks want to stay over. Anyway, that's my Old Sac idea in a nutshell. I think it can be put together pretty quickly. My biggest concern is to get not just secure parking, but an area where we can flock together. I don't know how hard it would be to put the parking together on short notice. The area I have in mind is often used for events like "art on the River" etc. Fishing for feedback on this one too. Let's not drag our feet on this.

Don,
Maybe you should go ahead and start the preliminary work for Old Sacramento as the first meet. As I mentioned before that weekend ( 9-30 to 10- 2) is the only weekend I will not be able to attend.

I'll make some calls tomorrow to the Old Sac. Merchants association as well as the Rio City Cafe to start laying some groundwork. However, I actually need some idea of how many people & their Birds are going to attend. I'll be out of town this coming weekend (I hope). See POST #8 for a suggested itinerary. Feedback please, as this could probably happen in September.

Chances are that everyone is pretty busy in NorCal. Even tho' there are a fair number of folk here, the percentage turn-out will not be high. Lots of places to visit. Your list is OK. We just need a champion for a particular cruise, who picks the date and does the arranging. We need a way to know who will REALLY come. For that I suggesst private messages or email. The forum is to awkward for in and out replies.
It is OK for announcements. When a cruise will be held, where to meet, etc.
I also suggest that a few pix be posted after the cruise to whet the appetites of those who missed it.

 I'll make the calls tomorrow & try & figure out date & activities. I used to be quite good at guesswork, or maybe it was telepathy! Please PM me if you're interested in a one day meet in Old Sacramento for September the somethingth. :pinkie:

Help! I forgot that I'm starting school on Saturday Sept.10th. It's a highly intensive curriculum that's 9 to 5 every Saturday from Sept.10th through May27th for further certification in my field. So, while I could set the Old Sacramento Meet up for a Saturday, I wouldn't be able to attend myself. So, how does a Sunday in September sound? If Sunday's a problem, I'll set it up for a Saturday. How's Sunday Sept.18th or 25th sound? If we can't make September, I guess we could aim for early October. I was just trying to make this happen quickly for us. Come Oct. the weather could start changing on us. This meet would also be a great time to discuss other event possibilities. I'm also working on the possible Spring '06 Lake Tahoe Meet so I'd like to get Old Sac. buttoned up so I can concentrate on making that happen. So far response on it seems positive. It's on the Events thread if you haven't bumped into it yet. By the way, I've proposed Old Sac & Lake Tahoe because they're very familiar to me so I can do the set up. Like they sang in "The Music Man" "You gotta' know the territory!".

Attenion California Chaper Members
Please PM Don or myself regarding the mini meet in Old Sacramento in September for either of the dates listed in thread #17 let us know what date would be best for you and we will try to announce which date the majority could attend. It's hard to get commitments from the resturants without a head count. Remember this is for a one date meet.
The Tahoe meet is in May next year and a tenative head count ASAP will allow Don to get reservations completed for the hotel and activities. We know things can happen to prevent you from attending, but if at this time it looks good, put in your name and number to attend. It will make things much easier. Please PM Don or myself for both meets or reply to this thread in the normal way.
Thanks,
Red Bird Dave

If you're not familiar with Old Sacramento, here's its' web address; www.oldsacramento.com. Check it out! :cp: Please PM me if you're in for this. Tentative date at this point is Sunday September 25th.

Let's move the "Old Sacramento Meet" onto its own thread. That will make it easier to find. It will be under "Old Sacramento Meet" in the Events forum. It's looking like a go.
