No, someone is full of it. No way it would have cost that much new. Even with the paint and inter.

can anybody trace the origin of this car--whether in fact it was factory manufactured as shown or a customizer did it or what?
it would be very interesting to know if this was a one off or just what!

Yes it would be interesting to know the past on that car.

I feel if it was possible to have the factory make a special
combination a lot more would have been done. There are
some folks with quite a bit of change that would have
paid it.

Only thing can think right off is Mary Kay

Yes, That's a "Galpinized" T-bird in "dusk rose." Think the price on their Galpinized cars at their site is now $59,000. I don't know what they were asking last year when this one would have been available.

Someone might ask if the seller would get a picture of the driver's door tag - that might give a clue to it's original color or at least the color code for the car body.

Dot

What is Galpin, a customizer.

Looks like they had to take the whole car apart for that
treatment.

Wow, now that is an UGLY color on this car. I'm glad it wasn't my $80,000! :moreek: :thumbsdow

whvt01,
Galpin is a Ford Dealer in California (I think it's California). They call themselves the largest Ford dealer in the world. They have done these types of conversions on other '02 T-Birds (there are currently two more of them listed in the duPont Registry, one green and one purple, both with matching interior accents). I agree with Dot, the most I've ever seen these cars listed for recently was $59,000.

saj,
I realize different folks have different ideas about what looks good, but I'm with you!! I don't really care for any of the "Galpinized" birds.

If you watch ebay enough, you might even be able to get Galpin's 2003 Calendar. I think the green one is pictured in that one. The pink was featured in their 2002 Calendar. Or you may contact Galpin Ford and see if they'll send you this year's calendar. I'd like to see the green one in person as the pictures aren't doing the color justice.

Yes they are in California on Roscoe Blvd. between the Hollywood & San Diego Freeways. Not sure if they are in the city of Van Nuys or not. It's been 22 years since I lived in that area and the memory starts to get a little cloudy.

That could even be a Mary Kay color

Galpin has 2 "Galpinized" 2003's listed on their site.

1) Meadow Green Mist, w/ color keyed interior pkg, whitewall tires & Performance White top. If you look at the "Factory-Installed Equipment", they insist that the custom paint & matching interior are FACTORY options, which must be misleading for the average customer!

2) Chrome Silver, w/ Black Accent pkg, Color keyed steering wheel/shift knob & Performance White top. They also list "Silver Chrome Illusion Roof", whatever that is! (Silver hard top in addition to/instead of white? Silver convertible top?) Same insistance on factory-supplied customizations.

Price for each is $59,895 w/ dealer-installed Lo-Jack, backup alert & Ultra-Guard alarm system.

I can't see Ford doing these full-blown one-off customizations when they won't even allow certain combinations of their standard interior/exterior/top colors. Don't know if Galpin is trying to pull one over on customers, or has more pull with Ford than we think!

I agree with Dennis. With today's mass production equipment can you see Ford jumping through hoops to prepare paint booths for just a couple of cars?:bs: I don't think so. If it is done at the factory then it is probably done by hand and the special interior colors would have to be done off site and then mated with the right car. Wouldn't you just love to see a mix-up where they painted the outside pink and put that green interior in it?

here's my 20 cents worth (inflation):

the pink actually looks pretty good in person. (picture is a bit misleading.) i remember talking to a salesperson way back who said the car WAS $80,000. it was an earlier 2002 and they did EXCELLENT paint and interior work. (it actually looks factory, but it was DEFINITELY not factory. it was an outside shop.)

the green looks AWFUL!!!

i don't like the silver either. it's one of those paint jobs that changes with the light. but it has SO MANY COLORS in it. it just looks funky.

the purple wasn't bad. it is a very dark purple. but with the rims and tires they had on it, it definitely looks like a pimp car. (which, in l.a., is not necessarily a bad thing ;)

on another note, they have a "galpinized" f-150 pick-up that was pretty cool. a sliding BAR-B-Q GRILL that slides to the end of the tailgate. there's DOUBLE beer taps, sink, DVD player, TV, blender, 2 outlets etc. that's kind of trick.

the 2003 calendar has the truck + the green t-bird. but the green bird looks much worse in person. it's a good quality calendar.

(ok, maybe i gave $3.42 worth.)

oh, and based on my very bad service there, i'd say "DON'T GO TO GALPIN!!!"

I see the bidding ended. ONLY 4 bids and raised price only
$400. Was surprised in a way, this would truely be a unique
color. A brand new car that people wouldn't pay 1/2 (60,000)
what it listed for. This in a way adds to the comments on
T-Birds just not moving anymore. Apparently people wouldn't
pay more than what a base car might bring if sold at invoice.

How depressing..................I guess not everybody realizes how much fun this car is.:hippy: :hippy:

evidently the "list" on this car is misleading as is the "factory" option.as in our rides the dealer can add any markup they want and call it list. that is one reason for slow sales. the option list if true is misleading and dishonest--i wonder how ford would honor a warranty claim on the paint or interior if the car was taken to any other ford dealer???
just my humble thoughts
