Hello- let me introduce myself-
my name is MJ, I live in Nampa, Idaho.
I have a 2004 Platinum Silver Thunderbird-it has 28K on it, and I have only had this one about 3 weeks; this is my second Thunderbird- my first was a 2002 Whisper White Thunderbird which I loved. I should have kept it:love:

My question is that yesterday I briefly noticed something about a transmission fluid problem on the 2004 Thunderbirds-here on TBN- I cannot locate that same posting now.

I have noticed and feel that my Transmission does not shift properly, it appears to "shutter" or "Stutter" and bog a little after shifting from 2nd to 3rd - I have already taken the car to the local Ford dealership but they could not detect anything and said all was fine, however I still disagree.
anyone else know what I am talking about? I was wondering if that posting I had seen was related to my transmission -and the way I felt it was not properly operating. I dont recall my 2002 Thunderbird doing this...
thanks!!!

MJ

thanks so much!!
MJ

Welcome to TBN, Mark. no experience with the transmission problems of the 04s, just what I read here on this site.

so, I'll just say that my spouse & i make a yearly trip thru Nampa on the way to Homedale.

There was a TSB for trans problems in the 04s. Your dealership should be able to look up your VIN # and see if the fix was applied (which is just adding an additive). If the fix has not been done on your car then the dealership should do the correction at no charge.

MJ...my '05 has been to the dealership 3 times of the flutter or flare b/t 3rd & 4th and the dealer's only response has been the replacement of a solenoid which did nothing for the problem. My '02's tranny was a dream, but the drive-by-wire system of the 03-05's has not been all that it's cracked up to be, IMO. Good luck...when they find the answer, please post it to help the rest of us.

Hi Jim-
thanks for that info- that is terrible you have gone back three times, that is my luck as well.
I guess that is just they way the transmissions work then? I notice if I drive it like an 80 year old, it seems to work alot smoother LOL- but under power it does shutter more.

I can really tell a diff between the 2002 I had and this 2004. I guess I should have stuck to the 2002's-
thanks and if I hear something I will share it with you too.

Wow y'all are so eager to help! LOL is it a traditional problem in the thunderbirds?? my transmission had a shutter..that got quite bad with time although mine is a 94 after being through 3 mechanics all different none of them could solve the problem...until my very close friend and mechanic had a look at it...it seemed to come at about 1500rpm and it would just stutter like crazy until the O/d kicked in...he thought it could possibly be the torque converter...however after only a transmission SERVICE (not a flush) it comepletely sure the shutter I had in the car for nearly 8 years....

Hi, Mark, and welcome to the Nest. I had a similar problem awhile back with my '04 but it turned out to be 3 coils going out instead of a tranny problem. Unless the "check engine" light is showing, Ford won't ck the coils. Just a thought.
