I thought that I would start a new thread for new Thunderbird's that we see or hear about that are involved in accidents. As much as we don't want to even think about it, the chances are great that it could happen to someone here on this forum sometime in the future.
I'll start this thread by mentioning that a friend of a friend of mine in Long Island, NY, has a blue 2002 Thunderbird that was in mint condition...until last weekend, when a lady ran a stop sign and broad-sided the car. The Thunderbird is awaiting the decision from the insurance company about the cost to repair it or to total it. No one was hurt in the Tbird.:bawl:

This may be old news to some but new to others. We picked up our Bird back in Jan. of this year. We had it for 2 weeks and drove it from York,Pa. to Sebring Fla. to see my dad. On our way back from Fla. driving up US 95 in South Carolina we were cruising along about 85 mph in the hammer lane. All of a sudden we were hit in the back right quarter panel by a PT Cruiser. Well to say the least I was :cussing::cussing: The guy that hit us said it was his fault. Insurance took care of it. Not real bad but bad enough after only having the car for 3 weeks and about 2500 miles on it.
Now you can't even tell it was hit. Real good body man.:pbj:
I think I was the first one on our site at the time that was hit.

let's see if I can recount some of those that have been brought to my attention:
1 - red one in Washington state - a roll over just after Christmas - hmm -haven't asked the progress on that one - about whether it was totaled or not - hobobob should know more about it as he knows the owner.
2- Florida - black one rear ended just after Christmas - repaired - owner was on an email group I'm on.
3- red one - local - broad sided at an intersection and pushed 75 feet - that tells you something about how well built these cars are as it's being repaired - other car had ran a red light (common practice around here) & don't know how fast it was going. - think that occurred last month according to friend who knows the owner. Friend had planned to introduce us sometime.
There were no serious injuries to owners in any of those cars.

On the positive side involving accidents with the new Thunderbird's (if the car is totalled and not wearing its hardtop), there may be a hardtop available for those looking for one.

:nono: Boy Tim, that's a little sick if you think of the person that it happened to. BUT, the good news on that is if that person gets another TBird then they will have a second top to go with their new one. Maybe a differant color.

Wasn't one hit coming out of the dealership last November? I think it was in Raleigh, NC or close to there. I haven't heard the disposition on that one either.
There was another wreck on E-Bay a while back. I think it was white, but I'm not sure. Anyone recall these?:puzzled:

What about having a gathering, brought in on flatbeds, of wrecked Thunderbird's next year?

ohh! parts sources! of course it's a little early for that but 10 years from now? Which brings up another subject. Totaled cars will be hitting the salvage yards. It's a real good idea to keep track of which salvage yards are storing wrecked t-birds for future reference.

No stealing my ideas, Dot. I could pile them up in the office parking lot!! Yes, there was a white wrecked Tbird on eBay a while back. Driver's side front...seller wanted almost retail for the wreck.

:sad:Last weekend while we were with our Classic Bird club for their annual spring outing, one of the other participants from the Houston area mentioned that another member from his Houston club has seen a 007 model on a flatbed that had been "T-boned." Wish I knew more than that as it wasn't either of the 007 models that are in his club. :nervous:
gws.HOU,TX - have you heard anything about it?

dont forget about the tbird blue from cal that was hit in the right rear wheel area on eabay-i dont believe that the reserve was met so it is likely that the salvage yard is parting it out as stated in the listing
(every wrecked bird is a tragedy)

Wasn't a thunderbird involved in an unfortunate fatality accident in California last year? I seem to remember seeing a thread on that on another forum....

How about the one just a couple weeks ago in the Atlanta area where a T-Bird and a BMW were drag racing, resulting in two deaths. Read about it here from TBirdTim I believe. Never heard anymore about it.

This could be a good thread. A quick growing secondary
market for parts. Like you say especially the tops.
What were they new $2500.
That way all won't be at the mercy of the dealerships.
Other good sources will be rims. ?? seating with side
air bags would they still be good without major repairs.
That windshield, in an old post they were fairly expensive
too.
