View Full Version : Any Interest In a Local T-Bird Show??
Blue Heaven
Jun 24, 2003, 08:14 PM
Hi Guys,
I've been in touch with my local sales manager (Mike) here in Glastonbury, CT. about trying to get the T-Birds more exposure. We have a local cruise night every Tuesday night in town which I have attended each week since the day after I brought my car home. Tonight, Mike brought a 007 to the show in an effort to get the car in front of the public. He plans on bringing a different 'Bird each week (I think he has 4 of them now). I've told him about this site, and that we have members all through out New England. He suggested a T-Bird car show at his dealership for us to get together, and of course, help promote the car. He'll work on bringing in a local radio station, provide a BBQ, etc. I would imagine he would also advertise the show to drum up attendence. I told him I would put out a feeler to see how many of you would be willing to attend. For those of you out of state members, Glastonbury is located about 15 mins. southeast of Hartford. As a point of reference, I make it from there to Marlboro, MA. in just over 1 1/2 hrs. Springfield, MA to Glastonbury is about 45 mins. I was thinking that this would give us a great opportunity to meet and have a fun time. Please let me know if you would be interested.
Thanks,
Dino

I got a chance to sit down with Mike for a few minutes tonight (he is a busy man). Gave him some pics we took of the '04s while we were at Wixom last month. He's very excited about the Merlot (as most of us are!!).
Looks like we will be shooting for the end of the summer for our show. He wants to incorporate a celebration of Ford's 100th and the dealership's 80th anniversaries, so we may have a gathering of Mustangs and older Fords as well. I will continue to update this thread with any information I receive.
Hope to see as many of you as possible!

Well, now that I've wet your appetite....We are having 2 other shows also. 1st one up is 8/10 at Northampton Airport, exit 19, off I-91. This although mostly Mustang too, draws a lot of Ford vehilcles. There are 11 classes in 2 Divisions that are NON-Mustang. Also a corral for display and For Sale cars, and Vendors. the other is on 9/28 at Rodman Ford in Foxboro (opposite Gillette Stadium). THere will be 7 Ford Family Classes (Non-Mustang). For info on any of these shows go to our web at www.mccne.com or e-mail me.

Jul 23, 2003, 08:36 PM
Just me again. Definately will be entering the Blk Bird in all three shows (weather permitting on that last one). It's $10. Pre-reg or $12. on the show date. All Peer Judged, Trophys, Dash Plaques, Door Prizes too.

Dave,
I'm chompin' at the bit now! There is a big all makes/models show in Manchester on 8/10 that we go to each year. They actually close down Main St. and it becomes one big gathering. Last year it drew 815 cars, so I won't make Northampton. However, I am very interested in the Foxboro show at Rodman's (I know the area well, we lived in Franklin for 10 years). I'll check the MCCNE site and email you if I have any questions.
Thanks for the info!!

Jul 24, 2003, 09:38 AM
FYI: Mustangs Unlimited Show 9/7, space VERY LIMITED, and Unfortunately there will only be 2 classes for ALL FORDS (1 Stock, 1 Modified)
Both Northampton on 8/10, and RodmanFord on 9/28, will have similar classes for late model Fords, but both have classes for early T-Birds too, and Space is not a problem.

Dave,
I printed out the pre-registration forms on the MCCNE website for the Mustangs Unlimited and Rodman shows last night. I will be sending them in with my checks today.
George,
Did you mean you could make the Mustangs Unlimited show on 9/7 and/or the Rodman show on 9/28?? We're still working on the Monaco Ford dealer show.

I got to sit down with Mike this afternoon to discuss dates. We are shooting for Saturday 9/13 for the show at Monaco Ford. This will be a week after the Mustangs Unlimited show, so I may be able to drum up some interest while we are there. The plan is to bring in a local radio station and have food catered in. The main lot will be cleared for display cars. Since the show will comemorate Ford's 100th and Monaco Ford's 80th, the show will be open to all years of Mustangs, T-Birds and just about anything Ford. As details become solid, I will post them here.
I hope this date works out with all of your schedules!

Hey Guys,
I am on vacation this week so I am planning to get together with Mike to nail down the finals. I know that some of you are coming from out of state() and want to make some plans to stay over night, so I'll get some local hotel info together (keep in mind that local is about 12 miles away). For those who plan on staying, PM me with your address and I'll mail the info to you.
As far as directions go, I will post them here as time draws near.
My plan is to hold an area where we can have all of our Birds together for the show (nice Nest photo op). So far, I've gotten about 11 members that have shown interest. Hope all can make it!!

P.S. Dave, I'll email you directly so that you can list at MCCNE. I'll see you in Manchester.

Due to a potential conflict at the dealership for Saturday the 13th, it looks like we will probably be moving the show to the following day, Sunday the 14th from 11 am to 4 pm. I'll know for sure next week. I hope this does not pose a problem for those that were considering coming in from out of state and wanted to stay over, we'd sure hate to miss you guys!
I did get to meet with Mike yesterday and discuss some particulars. Sounds like this will be a very family oriented show. He plans on having give aways, ice cream vendors and kids games (I think he's looking into one of those moonwalk things). Also, everyone will be able to see and drive a new '04 F-150 and the new 6.0 diesel. I'll post additional info as it becomes available.

O.k., we're all set for the 14th. The show will run from 11 to 3. They have space for approx. 70-80 cars. Some of their existing customers who have classic Fords will have them on display. I'm trying to get some participation from the CT Thunderbird Club (mostly older cars) so that we'll have a good mix. Flyers started going out yesterday, and I will be distributing them at the Manchester show. There will be food, ice cream and stuff to keep the kids busy. I'm also trying to get a local digital artist to come down and offer prints of the cars against a number of different back drops. I've had him do two of my car, they're awesome!
Since this show had to be moved to Sunday, I know that might put a kink in it for the folks that were thinking of coming from a long distance. However, if any of you can still make it, let me know and I'll get hotel info in case you want to stay over. Of course, it would be great to see all of you here!!
Monaco Ford is located at 767 New London Turnpike in Glastonbury, CT.
For those coming from eastern MA, the best way is to come down the Mass Pike west to 84W. Take the RT.2E exit on the left. Take exit 7, also a left exit. At the fork, bear left towards E. Glastonbury. The dealership will be just past the first light. Pull into the lot on the right next to the Citgo station.
Anyone coming from southern MA can take RT. 495N to the Pike heading west and follow the directions above.
Those coming from southern CT, NY or NJ could come up 91N to RT.3N (exit 25) towards Glastonbury. Take a right onto RT. 2E and immediately move over to the left lane to get off on exit 7. From there it's the same as above.

For those of you coming to the show this Sunday, I need to update the directions I gave you. It seems that the town of Glastonbury has chosen this weekend to tear up Rt. 17 and re-pave it. I suggest you do not get on Rt. 17, as there is loose gravel and tar.
Here is what to do instead... The directions remain the same to get to Rt. 2. Once on 2, you want to get off on exit 5D (Rt. 3) instead of exit 7. Take the very first exit (Main St.), at the bottom of the ramp bear right so that Home Depot will be on your left. At the next light, take a right onto Main Street. Go through four lights. At the fifth light (Economy Oil Change will be on your right), take a left, this will be New London Tpke. Follow to the dealership.

Hey Everybody!
I've been plastered to every forecast I can find...seems the majority view is partly cloudy with a chance of scattered showers. Hurricane Henri is not expected to be a major issue and hurricane Isabella is not due to hit land until next Wednesday or so.
I am meeting with Mike tomorrow morning, but as far as I know, he does not havce a rain date and plans on going forward. With all that's scheduled (WTIC radio, catering and UCONN football ticket giveaways by the head coach), it's tough to cancel and get that all in place again. Please check back here tomorrow as I will give you all an update.
Please do not feel bad if you must cancel due to the weather! I completely understand, mine hasn't been out in the rain since I got her home. But, since I'm a driving force behind this gathering, I will have her there.
Daij, send a PM to MA TBIRD, he is willing to hook up with you somewhere on the Pike (OlDave as well).

What a great show. That is one Fantastic Dealership. A family that actually cares. Were we not only greeted on arrival by the owners, thery checked in with us throughout the day, provided all the food you could eat, plus snacks, soft drinks, ice cream and water all for FREE. THe Glastonbury Fire Department was there in force with fantastic displays and demonstrations(and they had the biggest dog I've ever seen, and only 1 year old). Great Music and give-aways from the local radio station too. Let's not forget UCONN tickts and autographing. And for the classics, a REAL Original T-Bird pedal car.
The scariest part of the day...following George on the Pike with it raining and seeing him trying to block it from hitting his car. Not for not though, he ended up walking away with the spoon at the event.
The suprise of the day, when Dino presented us all with folders on our beloved T-Birds and Specially obtained from Monaco the 04 T-Bird packets.
The cats meow....that had to be when the owners of Monaco, came to us as we were leaving and not only personally thanked each TBN Member for our support, but insisted on filling all our gas tanks for the trip home.
Soooooooo.......KUDO's to DINO and MONACO Ford Motor Sales. 767 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury CT. (Yes this is a definate recomendation AND they have 2 Birds waiting for Bird Lovers to find them)
