I signed up to get google alerts on news reports about Thunderbirds. I see late 80s and 90s Thunderbirds mentioned in most of the news items that get picked up by google. Some are serious accidents and others are stolen car reports. Seems that those 80s/90s T-birds are theft targets.

The vandalized tbird looks like it could use some good elbow grease and wipe out most of that interior damage. Was there another photo that showed the interior cuts? I didn't see any in that photo other than the top damage.

Hey Joe, you sure that's water in the headlamps? I think it might be the turnsignal section of the headlamp, see your photo in your signature, same look to yours. BTW, thanks for posting all these, I hate to see these things happen to some of our great cars, but it's interesting to see how they do or don't hold up in collisions.

just what is the material tht the trunk lids, hood and front fenders are made out of/ Can they take a whack and spring back to shape?

5bird7
Nov 12, 2008, 09:34 AM
Not likely, Jon. They're a composite material like fiberglass. A dent is pulling apart fibers that don't easily pop back into place.

Actually, though I don't like the looks, I think a lot of people are gratefull that the impacts affect the front or rear and not the interior in most of these cars that Joe has posted (rollovers the exception)

These parts are made of composite materials and incorrectly referred to as fiberglass. However, like fiberglass, they do not take licking and keep on ticking…. They crack.

No Pics, just describing as stated in the item description.

Don't know ... Maybe So?

Description states both were "submerged" I guess as in tidal surge.

I was out with a buddy last weekend looking a part for a 1991 Reatta. In the pull and pay lot was a early 90s Camaro that the yardman said had been pulled out of a salt bog after being submerged underwater at high tide for about a week.

You talk about blowing your nostril hair's off and making your eye's water: A nice salt water mix with dead fish and a whisk of shrimp tails and/or clams hulls came to mind. I don't know how you could ever recycle the interior parts on these submerged cars but I guess it can be done.

FYI FOR THE NEWBIES:

Salvage Vehicles are not parted out: You must purchase the entire vehicle which becomes very cost prohibitive even when considering purchasing only a big ticket part such as the top or rims when you factor the shipping.

Wholesalers also REFUSE to entertain the suggestion you pick and pull and return the carkus to them for disposal even with a rider to resell it again with the bill of sale.

A request for an EXCEPTION to these rules will draw you back a nub: Otherwise I would have had a complete production color set of hardtops and several sets of N/M rims for myself and EBay for some pocket change.

OR... The scorn of an owner the night before (or after) a repossession took place.

Also, working on a college campus, I have seen what kids (tomorrow's movers & shakers) will do to retalliate against a Student Affairs Rep after being sanctioned for a campus infraction.

Another reason why there are so many hardtops showing up for sale. You would think that the insurance companies would get wise and collect them when there's a wreck. Afterall, they insured them while the car was whole. IMHO

I hear you there Chuck... I had words with somebody over the weekend for parking to close to her :bicker:. I usually get to park in the handicap space so I park on the end space and close to the curb away from the children that swing open their doors :moreek: because they are heathens. I was about to get out of my car and this mini van swarms in and parks like he has never had a lesson in his life. I swear Cali will give a license to anybody with a pulse. I got out and told him that the lines where there for a reason HELLO!!! I had my husband stay in the car while I went in the store just in case the driving zombie wanted to be a wise crack.

I didn't see the accident, but hear about it right after it happened from the guys at the rescue squad where I am taking the EMT Basic course.

Yes, it looks likes his, the chrome around the wheel wells and other places. I have not seen him around town since the accident, I wonder what he got as a replacement.

Yes it is, Joe. We have them on Linda's car, and I have a hanging tag that can be placed on the rear view mirror for the T-Bird when we drive it. Texas only issues the tag to the primary vehicle the impaired individual will be using, therefore we could not get them for both vehicles.
