Thought i would start a thread to pertain to sightings of the bird on the road, parked, etc... Give a color and city, state location. Any other details if you want as well.

Ill start.

Red Bird with Black Convertable Top - Plano, TX.
White Bird with White Hard Top - Plano, TX.

I didnt stop for any other details or any information, just a casual driveby. The white bird is owned by a doctor for a animal clinique... I see it parked almost daily in front of his office.

went to Key West last week end -about 750 miles round trip. only saw one other bird -blue w/ blue hardtop traveling opposite direction on alligator alley.

in Sarasota have seen white, red, yellow, black, blue and red/white(Razzfla's). A guy told me in Oct 2001 while looking at my new bird -anything new will always show up in Sarasota; give it enough time and you will see every color, too.:smokin:

Usually see one a day when I'm out cruising around. Saw a black/black last week in a supermarket parking lot, gave him a thunderbirdnest.com card, hope he joins the group. Saw a white the same day pulling out of a gas station. Both of these were in Livonia, MI

WOW - We spotted the birds on the road today!

Went out for breakfast in Richardson today and on our way home spotted 4 02s - the first one in a used car lot (another message), the 2nd one, a red with the top down, we chased down to a Chucky Cheese lot and I passed on the TBN card and mine. Owner didn't have time to talk.

The third car, yellow, top down, was spotted turning into a business parking lot so we followed and had a chance to chat for several minutes with the owners. Passed on the TBN card and mine again and I took a picture - will post that one on my rides page. And they're interested in meeting other owners so a new recruit for the DFW area!

The 4th and last was a BLUE!!:pink: blue hardtop; spotted as we neared home. Had a chance to hop out of the car as they were stopped at a LOOOONG light and pass on the cards again.
Possible recruits, too.

Did I mention?! It's sunshine and blue skys and temps in the 70s

First bird I've seen on the road all winter.

Here in gainesville, there's a black Premium for sale as used at the Lincoln Dealership. Right next door is the Ford dealership. They have 2 yellow,2 white and a red in the showroom and a black '03 with the saddle interior sitting outside. Lots of t-birds here in this relatively small town (35,000). I know of at least 8 that are owned by locals --- one guy owns 5 for himself and his family. Interestingly, there's a red one and a Yellow one parked almost daily within blocks of my office.

Just stopped at a local Ford dealership on the way home from dinner....had to stop and look at the Bond car on the showroom floor...it is beautiful.

It has a plaque in the glove box...as they all do.

This one was #17 of 700.

I guess #007 of 700 would be the Bond car to own huh?

Don't see many locally around here and saw none on our 500 mile round trip to Atlanta last weekend. About the only one we see on a regular basis is when we look at our reflected image in plate glass windows around town (we do that a lot  )

I think the Tbirds must be all around Sunny S Florida. Took a one hour ride up AIA along the ocean (top down, of course) to Palm Beach. I counted 7 Tbirds - reds, blacks, blues & white. Still haven't stumbled across another grey. My guess its a combination of the weather (70's & low 80's here) and more attractive pricing. Once Spring is sprung, they'll be showing up in numbers in other parts of the country too...My neighbor saw my car and went out the same day and bought an 03 Torch Red with white inserts ...

Since I came to Canada three weeks ago I have not seen a single bird on the road. So I went on a search at the most obvious place to find some. These poor little homeless birds were sighted in Richmond Hill, a suburb of Toronto. The closest black one with premium wheels is just a baby ('03) and the other 5 are '02s. There was also a yellow one in the showroom at this dealership. Canadian speedometers go up to 260. (That's kilometers per hour.)

I noticed that the Black '03 has the premium wheels. I guess that they are now coming standard instead of the deluxe that went with the Canadian Birds last year. Can anyone verify with a Canadian Brochure?

5bird7
Feb 9, 2003, 08:49 AM
Just checked Ford of Canada's website, though they don't have info up yet for the 2003, all their pictures show the premium wheels. That's probably a new change.

DavidA
Feb 9, 2003, 08:54 AM
Actually, I also checked the Canadian site and it seems they are all coming with the Premium Wheels now. I priced a stripped Car and a Fully Loaded one with the hardtop and they both came out with the chrome wheels. Interestingly, some of the pictures are of the 2002, but the "build your car" is all up to date 2003.

Returned from a 900 mi trip today to KC and Lawrence ,KS and was prepared to report no sightings but at my last gas stop before home saw a red/red '02 in an intersection in Hays, KS a town of about 12000. We waved to each other but that was all. First time to see a new bird while driving mine. A real treat. We really got ALOT of attention in Lawrence (Home of KU Jayhawks). Even had a campus police officer drive around the parking lot twice to look before he finally stopped to say how much he liked the car and could he see the interior! Why, of course, Officer! He really oo'ed and ahh'ed

I love to bring this thread back to the top.:wavey:

Saturday - roads are still sandy from the sleet storm we had earlier this week so the new 'bird stayed home when I went off to club meeting this morning. Was out on the freeway when I looked in the mirror and immediately noticed a blue 03 coming up on me from behind. By the time I got my camera out to take a picture it was about 3/4 of a mile in front of me and leaving fast, weaving deftly amongst the cars that were "crawling" along at my speed of 65.

Arrived at meeting and found a yellow 02 in the parking lot right next to a red 03. Knew the 02 owner but had no idea who the red car belonged to. No one mentioned it at the meeting but a member was passing out some 007 cards that he had picked up in a free postcard rack at a "Pancake House" north of the area. Found out after the meeting while everyone was in the parking lot that this same member owned the new 03 - He and his wife hadn't said a word. Everyone else would have left without ever knowing if I hadn't mentioned to his wife that I wondered who owned the red 03 still parked out there.

Not too many spotted yet here in the Valley of the Sun...a friend of ours lives in the NW portion of the valley, and a neighbor of his just bought a yellow 02, but leaves it parked outside all the time.

Have occasionally seen a red one driven by the same lady here on the west side of town...ran into someone driving a blue topless one about six months ago.

Visited my uncle in Bedford Ohio this weekend, we were out shopping in Mayfield and past a new 007 Tbird on route 91. I pointed the car out to my uncle and said that was the car Halle berry drove in the lasted James Bond movie, he told me Halle Berry grew up in Bedford. Also seen another 007 and a 2003 red bird sitting in the show room of the dealer in Bedford. This is the first 03 I have seen because there are none in Canada yet.

I was busy this afternoon, not expecting to see George til late when he gets home early, bursts in the door and announces that the twin to my car is sitting in the driveway - that can only mean one thing - another Thunderbirdblue with white top!:wow: He "ran into the owner" at the local grocery store and dragged him home. Darn, I was still busy and leaving within 20minutes :bawl:. All I know is that the owner is the man who bought his a week before us from the same dealership - haven't seen him since mid-June and didn't know he lived so close. He doesn't have internet access except thru his daughter living in Florida - snail mail still rules!

Pal's is a local chain (17, I think) of drive-thru burgers, dogs, fries and drinks. Although this photo was taken about 10 miles away, there is a Pal's located less than a block from the Carnegie Hotel. Perhaps we all could do some "posing" for photos in May...Also, the Pal burger is delicious and they sell their ice tea by the gallon.

Pretty interesting reading about how they are the only fast food restaurant in the country to be awarded the Malcolm Baldridge Award for Quality - usually given to manufacturing companies.

Terry, sorry I missed you in February. I work in Lawrence at KU, live in north Topeka. Too bad you didn't see but one other bird on your trip. There are 2 that I know of in Lawrence, a yellow one with tag "hers 2" and a blue one like mine. There are several in Topeka, mostly black or red. My buddy Rose won't take her white one out in the weather any more than I will. Good we had a decent rain yesterday to start washing the salt, sand and calcium off the road. Temps are to be in the 70s over the weekend and I want to get my 'bird out!

HI ALL
while out riding with top down(fantastic!!) sunday i saw 2 red birds both premium -one with hardtop. they were the first i have seen on the road. at the dealer i bought my blue one from was a premium ble 02 convert on the showroom floor (11-02) -it is still sitting there-someone probably could get a steal on that one!
by the way-the 03 boot is great! fits much better and easier than the 02 and looks nicer too! however i did have some scratching from the hardtop and there was not any tape installed so i am getting some clear vinyl film to install before replacing the top.

 My car was seen on the road yesterday by a great many people. It's really funny that here in the "Motor City" area, there are so few T-Birds on the road. People were straining their necks to turn and look. I parked 5 cars away from the nearest car in a huge lot and when I came out, a guy had parked next to me and said what a beautiful car I had!

:music: I got a new CD player-radio installed yesterday because of the CD that was jammed since last November. That sounded really great!

 On the down side, my car lost that new car smell. Almost 2000 miles on her now!

My wife met me for lunch this week, and while parking in the State parking lot, I looked over and saw a vehicle parked & covered with a car cover.

I told her I recognized the wheels as being T/Bird premiums, and so went over and lifted the cover on the side...it was a triple black...beautiful (first one I've seen). Black's not a common color here in Phoenix (for obvious reasons).

Saw four yesterday! On the way to Performance Ford for an oil change, saw a blue 2002 parked in front of an antique shop, have seen that one there before. Performance Ford has a '03 grey, black interior on the showroom floor. Nice color. I like the heated seats and the new soft boot, not as enthusiastic about the instrument panel. Also while there they pulled a black '03 out of the back, all washed and cleaned.

And then on my way into downtown Nashville on Charlotte Pike, I saw another (black) one getting washed. It was at a moving and storage company, and I had the impression it had just come out of a moving van. Now that one probably has a good story.

Stopped a Ford World Headquarters, I'm surprised they still are showing a 2002 yellow on the floor. Love it! On the way to the dealership yesterday, spotted a red 02/03 in the traffic ahead of me. I was able to pull in behind it and watched as the driver spotted me in the mirror and started waving. My exit was coming up with a long exit lane so was able to pull up beside it. (heavens! I didn't look at the fender to see if it had the V8 emblem) The driver must have been watching my car the whole time as I looked over and she had the biggest grin on her face and waved somemore. We parted as I was exiting and she driving on down the freeway.

They had contacted Tim about Thunder Valley, but had a conflict. They will try to join us on Thursday evening at NASCAR Cafe, before heading out on vacation the next day.

They found the car on a used car lot a few weeks earlier. The previous owner wanted a bigger car. Can you believe it?

met another t-bird owner yesterday. His car caught my attention. He had an 02 desert blue with the red premium interior. I know ford doesnt make this possible but when i took a small peek in his car he had the same dials as an 02 t-bird so I had to ask him how he got it and he told me it used to be a whisper white with premium red interior but when he saw the desert blue color(we kept referring it as baby blue) he immediately wanted that color. I have never seen a baby blue color t-bird with red and black two tone interior but i got to admit that is one of the nicest combinations I have seen. His name is Jeff and I did tell him about the crew on this forum and wrote down the TBN site adress so jeff if you are reading this, post some pics of the car for the rest of the gang to see it. And I still regret not having my camera in my car that day to take some pics. And also if you are reading this, PM me (I was the one in the red t-bird that you kept on calling me Dave and not Daij) :D

Was driving to work, had the top down, and drove past a red '02 with the top down! They were at the corner of the infamous Peachtree Steet and International Blvd. I honked and waved, and they did the same back...

First time that I've actually seen (and gotten a reaction from) another bird while driving my bird!

We've had the chance to wave to 2-3 other t-birds. Funny thing is, each time we've had the top down and the birds coming the other way have still had the hard tops on. Makes it easier to be seen waving when you can stick your hand above the windshield.

We've gotten cheery waves back more often than not.

saw another bird entering the four seasons hotell in boston. Shadow grey i think is the name of the color. I am starting to see more and more birds which is good. Since I bought the car, the only others i have seen on the street was starting from a couple weeks ago till this day. How about this one for a sighting....

Yesterday I came across my "twin" in the parking lot of a local conference center - It was a 2002 Thunderbird Blue with a white hardtop.... Have seen several all blue, one blue with black but this is the only other blue with white I have seen.

Took a trip up to Prescott on Saturday to speak at a conference...just outside Prescott (61 degrees...had the top down) saw a Whisper White with the hardtop on...honked and waved, but they may have had the stereo going full blast as got no response.

Our weather's a little upside down for most of you folks...I've had the hardtop off all winter...it's getting "warm" now and it's time to install the hardtop for the summer...even at 10 PM it can be 105 outside during the summer, so it's just too hot.

Unless we go on a trip, the hardtop will stay on until October.

MATbird,
I am not doing travelling sales, in fact I wasn't even working yesterday. Seing one bird in a beach/resort area was not a surprise. But seeing two more, later the same day, less than 10 minutes apart, in a seemingly unlikely area...I consider it a reward from my higher power. I report every one that I see in hopes that one day someone else on here will reply and say "That was me."

If we weren't computer nuts, we'd be out making more sightings right now.

I made my sightings this morning. Here's another story within these sightings. Had breakfast with my classic club -the one's who are devoted to the 55s-57s so location is in Richardson, TX. Another white 02 showed up - that makes 7 belonging to members of that club now but "officially" the cars are just modern transport. Normally when someone gets a new car in the club, everyone goes and looks but these last 2 new t-bird owners haven't said a word. And the owner was going to sneak away without saying anything . I caught him and pinned him down - He said it was his wife's car but he was out driving it by himself. He said it was "just a car - nothing special" - but he's the one out in the car by himself. He didn't want to admit that he was enjoying the car - not in front of his classic club buddies. He did mention that he had bought it this past Feb and got a good price on it.

Now for my other sightings - spotted a white with black hardtop leaving the same parking lot - think it's been in the neighborhood before so will have to keep a closer eye on that parking lot. Then, just around the corner spotted a red 02 with top down going the other way. That's it and I took the long route home hoping to spot another.

We spent the last 2 weeks driving our blue bird from Cleveland, OH to Dallas TX. In just under 3,000 miles we saw 2 red birds, traveling the opposite way both times. The first was going east on Rt. 70 in Missouri just outside of St Louis. She had her soft top up. The second was traveling west on Rt. 24 in Arkansas, between Dallas and Memphis TN. Each time we beeped and waved, but seemed to get no response :-( Then, lo and behold...we're in Nashville and in checks a 2003 Bond bird!!!! How nice to see it close up. Unfortunatly, I was late for a show and only had a minute to say hi. I quickly spouted out the name of this website, hoping to add another new face. When we looked later and again this morning, we couldn't find them. Looks like we're still a rare breed out there!!

I drove from North of Detroit, down route 94 and 75 to the Mustang Show in Pigeon Forge in Tennesee and did't see a bird with wheels on the ground all the way there and back.

As a matter of fact I saw only one in Pigeon Forge, where literally tens of thousands of car enthusiasts were gathered for several car shows.
One of the Mustang Club of America executives was driving his wife's Bird, Blue 2002 premium, Charcoal grey interior.

We saw a number of trucks carrying loads of new Fords, which included a 03 Bird or two.

That's one of the things I like best about driving my Bird ... it's a VERY rare sight. Spent our evening at a Sonic cruise-in in North Richland Hills with our blue 02 (hardtop is still on). Great night weather wise but lots of Chevys there and only a handful of Fords. With people's choice voting, it was difficult for a Ford to get a trophy but 1 did (not ours) - a 36 Ford cabriolet. Meanwhile as we sat and watched the cars come thru the drive-in, a fairly new red 02 (hardtop on - 3 months old) came thru. :pbj: We stopped the owners and passed on the TBN info but they said it would be awhile before they had a computer to get online with. More sightings yesterday. Went to a party yesterday with our classic t-bird friends and drove the blue 02. On way there past a red 02 with top up. While at party, 2 more showed up and 1 was brand new - a white 03 that the owners had had for only 2 days. I had planted that seed about 3 months ago. :pbj: Convincing "Debbie" had been the hard part as it was to be her car - and it is. She seems to be on cloud nine now. Planted another seed yesterday, too - will let you know how that seed "sprouts." After we left, passed another white one with top down.
Heard from others at the party that they had also seen other 02s/03s on the road yesterday. Weather was great, mostly cloudy and cool for this time of year - no rain - perfect for top down cruising.

I have lots of sightings to report from the Memorial day weekend. Maybe I even saw some of you. I left from San Jose on Friday the 23rd and drove down the PCH with one of my friends. Had to pull over and put up the top just before Carmel, due to the 40 degree temperature drop from San Jose to there. (Went from 93 to 53 in about an hour...). As I was stopped, I looked to my right...and there was a black Bird soft top up. :smokin:

We got back on the road and continued the drive. Then I saw a red Bird top down. About 20 minutes later I saw a white Bird with the top down. :moreek: No more sightings for the rest of the day...

We stayed in San Luis Obispo Friday night. When I woke up Saturday morning, I went to the lobby of the hotel to get some coffee, and out front was a red Bird with hardtop on. I didn't see anyone hanging around though...Flash forward a couple of hours...My friend and I went to a few wineries and then decided to get some lunch in Paso Robles. In Paso I saw two white Birds (I'm assuming they were different, but I couldn't see the drivers). The first one had the hard top on, second one it was down. There was a car show in Paso so if it was someone local I thought maybe they might have taken the top off and cruised by twice...who knows. Also there was a white '57. :pbj:

Sunday we left San Simeon to drive down to Santa Maria (there was a lot of backtracking on this trip...) and I saw a Desert Sky Blue '03 when I was in San Luis Obispo heading to the 101 Fwy. :mouth_wat

That should be all of them, right? Well, if it were a normal world. In Buellton I saw three at the Ford dealer, including an Inspiration Yellow, and a black and white one (I think those were the other two...I was actually looking at the yellow as I drove by).

Then in Gilroy on my way home yesterday, I saw another white Bird, this time with a black hardtop on. :wow: . That combo is fabulous in real life, I've only seen it in pictures so far.

Maybe some of these sightings were people here? I was amazed. I think this weekend marks more sightings than I've had during my whole ownership experience. It was cool...

had "dinner?" at a Sonic last night with friends in SouthLake. On the way there spotted a blue 02 with softtop up. While at Sonic spotted a red with softtop up and a yellow with black hardtop - both heading north on Davis. Guess it depends on whether you stop or not as to how many you'll see on the road. Since this was "commute" time and tops were all up, I assume they were coming home from work. too bad, as the weather was beautiful for top down cruising.

Ranger2k2xlt - you live so close to Campbell and Coit, you need to get up early some Saturday morning and meet us for breakfast at the Southern Recipe Cafe - 8:45am. email when you plan to come as sometimes even we don't make it. Should be there this Saturday.

The 02 white reappeared here at Marietta Conference Center & Resort today, I left a note trumpeting our great web site and all the bird owners here in Atlanta. Then later today, there was a 02 red IN THE SAME PARKING SPACE the white was in before...new-used, had temporary plate good through 6-24-03.

Then I saw a yellow out in front of the used Ford dealer lot on Cobb Parkway this evening.

Went to a family wedding today. After the cerimony was over and we were headed out of the church, about four people told us that a Thunderbird was parked next to ours in the parking lot. Instead of going out the front door to say our goodbys and all that stuff, we found a back door and headed to the parking lot to wait for the owner. Sure enough, there sat an '03 triple black. The owner came out and when she saw us standing next to our car, she broke out in a big smile. We talked to her about 15 mins. and then ran into her again at the reception. We told her about TBN (gave her the web site) and all the past and future get togethers. She really appeared eager to hear about the site and what it was all about. We exchanged cards and promised each other that we would be in touch next week. Maybe we will recruit somebody that will be an active member.

Also saw one other bird today. An '02 black with top down, no supplemental lights.

Well it seems that most birds have flown south or west, I think since I've seen 3 since I saw the 1st re-design pictures back in 2001 in my area. 2 in the town I live in - an '02 T-Bird blue with the top down, a red/red with dealer plates on it, both were traveling down Rt 6 in Woodbury CT and then another yellow/yellow heading south on the Merritt parkway while I was going north -- we flashed our lights at each other -- but that's it, seems that the birds don't like the northeast.

Even though we have such an active group of new Thunderbird owners here in the Atlanta area, I never see any of the new Tbird's on the road here.

We had more sightings this past week in Kansas City. Of course, there were the 4 that showed up for the Regional - a red, a white, a bond and a yellow. Passed TBN cards to the red and white and some owners that were there without their 'birds. The Bond and yellow cars belong to TBN members. Another red one came by to visit - passed on TBN cards to them. Then Kristi (imnxtc) showed up with her blue on Friday and that evening a black came in following a customized 56 - never did see that one but George did.
On Saturday, a red one passed our tour bus and later that day we passed a blue one. Sunday, coming home, spotted a red one heading east on I44 near Carthage. Only other one spotted yesterday was a white one in front of a dealership.

Missed seeing brd4jk's by a 1/2 hour but did get to see it at TV.

Pulled up next to a Bond Bird at a stop light in KC this weekend. Got their attention and told them I liked their car. ( I was driving Angel at the time) they smiled and said thanks. Ended up next to them practically every stoplight for 10 miles. 1st Bond bird I had seen. Parked next to a MS gray with BLK interior at a hotel there, too, where we attended my wife's HS reunion. Left a TBN card but never saw the owner. MO plates on both. Funny thing, I saw about 25-30 vettes headed East on I70 over the 400 mi as I went home. Wondered what was up. Found out they are having a Corvette Caravan to Bowling Green for the Corvette 50th at the Corvette museum. They are expecting 1000+. Maybe something similar for the Tbird 50th will come up. This is a great one! Today I drove the bird to work cause I put up my TBird only parking sign last Friday (the boss was out, he's the one I've been fighting over this parking space with) and I wanted to get there today and make sure I got the space. Anyway one of my colleagues comes in and asks if I put the hard top back on my car. I said no. He said, "Well there's another tbird just like yours in the garage." Went out to look and there's a Thunderbird blue 02 sitting as pretty as you please. I put a Thunderbirdnest card on the windshield. The back tag bracket said Warrenton, VA. I sure hope whoever it is joins us on the site. Maybe I'll find out who owns it.

At 1pm today with the sun up high and not one cloud in the blue sky, I'm at Scottsdale Rd/Frank LLoyd Wright Blvd. It's a typical warm June afternoon.:smokin: The temperature gauge in my Bird read 114. Ok, maybe the humidity was only 5%, but this dry heat still makes us feel like we're visiting the outskirts of hell.
Traveling the other direction and stopped at the light was a white TOPLESS Bird with two occupants. Either they were tourists from Nome driving a rental car, or they were certifiably nuts . If it's their car, it's too bad that they're not registered at TBN. We could use more crazies like them. Nothing beats driving a "cool" car when you're completely sweatsoaked.:damn:
BTW, don't pity me because of the heat...my office and my home are at a higher elevation, so it's not so hot. It's actually a chilly 108 here.

Got to tell you all this one...my wife's BMW was in for service (AGAIN!), and, as usual, they provide her with a car while it's in for repair.

They drive her over to Hertz, and what's sitting out front are 2 new Birds, one black and one red, both with hardtops.

Susie asked the fella about them, and he told them he had no trouble renting them and has had several folks, after renting them, come back and said they were on their way to buy them.

She told him her husband owned one and loved it...he said he understood why...he keeps them both right by Hertz's front door so when folks walk in, they have to see them...said most of the customers who rented them brought them back with all kinds of stories of how much other people noticed their car and commented on it.

Then I told her I wanted a new TBird and the conversation went south!

JD,
Does Susie get her BMW serviced at Penske's UAG stores in Scottsdale?
That's an incredible campus of auto dealerships. We bought our Aviator at the Lincoln store and take the Tbird in for service (only one time) there, too. They loaned me the red Tbird while mine was in the shop.

Jim,
Pretty soon, someone will get some good deals from Hertz on those Birds. They used to auction off their rental cars; my dad bought a nice '76 (?) from Hertz. I guess they still auction off their rental Birds.

Took mine to work Tuesday. At an intersection in north Raleigh coming home there were two birds and a Hummer. My blue Bird, a yellow one, and would you believe it, a stretch limo Hummer. It was black and looked 50 feet long. It was about as weird as it gets.

Red '02, top up in west Little Rock 6/27 around 6:30PM. The Gentleman turned into sub-division and I couldn't make the lane switch to catch him.

Actually saw two today...first was an '02 blue with top down at the Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester, CT. Had a MA dealer plate. The second was a yellow with soft top up parked in Glastonbury town center with NH plates. Put one of my TBN cards on the windshield. It was a good T-Bird spotting day!!
