As I anxiously await the arrival of my new Bird sometime around the first of the year, I am readying it's room. I am wondering how much space should be allowed for the storage of the hard top when I remove it in the Spring.

Could someone please tell me the dimensions of the storage "footprint", and how much space I will need above the floor?

Thanks.

A space about 2 1/2 feet deep and about 4 1/2 wide should suffice for storage. It really doesn't take up much room at all when placed on it's special stand.

PS- Height is about 4 - 4-1/2 ft. Also the cart has wheels, so you can move it around very easily as needed.

You may want to keep a couple of small blocks for the wheels - My garage floor is somewhat "uneven" and my cart tended to roll, even with the wheels locked.....

It will also help to make sure the cart does not move when removing and loading the top to the cart.

Someone also suggested that you put a pair of socks over the rubber stops where the top rests on the stand. I didn't do that, and can't find any marks on the top, but he claimed it protected the top from getting marked. It's probably not a bad idea anyway.

Thanks for the dimensions. Does anyone store it up on their top cap lift?

Yes, I store my top suspended in the garage with my EZ-Top. I also got the top cover which keeps all the dust and bugs out of the headliner...quite convenient as I have no extra room on my garage floor to stand the top upright.

The socks were my idea after the rubber tips left marks on my white top - they worked great!!!!

It just gives a little added protection

Where did you get the top cover?

I also leave my hardtop on the top lift,& modified the Ford supplied cover for use on the top while it's suspended. My lift is mounted in the attic allowing me to raise & lower the soft top while parked under the hardtop.

I store on the lift and I have the cover over the top in the lift.

I stored my top all summer in our garden shed (I dont have a garage). I build a woden box and stored the top on its stand with the top cover on all summer. Pulled it out on september 24th and all was intact.

Only one thing I noticed. The car smelled of cedar for about a week.

I use the socks and blocks on my stand. I also use some foam waterpipe insulation on the top bar for extra padding. The important thing to remember is to make SURE the wheels are locked when putting the top on or off the stand.
