Donna; welcome to the best site for tbird information on the web. The picture under your name is called an AVATAR and you can find how to insert by using the search button at the top of the page and searching on AVATARS. My signature seeezzzz it all about the people on the forum...well almost all there is this one person called davida and he whins alot. He will try to sell you aluminum dashs kits but don't you will see later.

I see that pm button, so far so good.... this is going to be fun, doesn't sound too hard, thanks Dot and Mad Bill (or Dog)!!
Oh, Mad Dog, I can do a pretty good job of whining myself, although I prefer the kind you drink. Screw tops are do-able, for medicinal purposes only.
I won't be needing any kits haha. Do you have a national no call list we could sign?
I am not trying to sell anything, but I saw, on E-bay, a great looking jeep-top hoist. I contacted them (in Mass.), they are going to modify one for my T-Bird. I can't help take the top off, and want to be independent. I have seen them for around $400, so I think $90 (including shipping) is a great deal! Also I am not sure if I am getting a special discount for my little bit of help in the design. I am hoping to get it soon, if anyone is interested, after I get it, and try it out, I can give you their website address.
If that is selling or whinning, tell me to shut up and sit still, I can be very good. (with difficulty, but it's possible)

Donna:
I was in Hannibal, MO when I was fifteen years old (summer of '66)...that's the only time I've been in MO, but sure was taken back by the greenry...being from the desert, I was so impressed by the country, green feel of your home town.

And welcome to a great place...lots of great people here...did I mention the word "great" enough?

I have e-mailed a man named Ross, got his e-mail address from E-Bay, it is rsn113@yahoo.com
Glad you liked Hannibal, did you visit the Mark Twain attractions? (Hannibal, is the boyhood home of Mark Twain)

Top Hoists
probably a little 2 late for you since you're getting someone to modify one for you but there are 3 outfits that make mechanical and electric top hoists for the t-bird:
http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=216&highlight=top+hoist
prices vary amongst the 3 so it's worth it to look at all of them.

I remember on several occasions, none for years now, when the street and highway department had to use things like snow plows to remove these large bugs that would swarm and die around all the street lights in town, especially near the river. Nasty things.

Donna,
You need to be very careful about a hoist that has been "modified" from something else to fit your 'Bird's top. It is very important that none of the arms or supporting members touch any of the top's moulding or rubber weatherstrips, as this will distort them. There is a reason why those other units cost as much as they do...they are designed specifically for the T-Bird.

Just some friendly information.

I echo 5bird7 and blue heaven there are several hoist specifically for the bird out there. I have the manual version from California Car Cover Company. I've had it a year and it works great and does not harm the weather strips. The alumimum dash kits are available from legends 5 one of our sponsors. Their add shows up at the top and bottom of you screens when to visit the nest. For other aftermarket accessories for your bird just hit the search buttom, type in the topic and you will find most of the tried and proven products.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that, I will certainly check it out throughly before I use it. They aren't actually changing one they have, they are building one from scratch (bad word to use) if that makes a difference. They just got in different parts to use, and were trying to describe what they had in mind. About all I could understand was the 16 pully wheels they would use. I will send them a note about your concerns on the weather striping.
I can get a full refund if it doesn't work out. I will store the top on my stand if it stays off for any length of time.

Donna, Welcome to the nest ! We are just North of you in Iowa ! Keep us all informed as to how the top hoist works out for you. We are also thinking of getting one. As it is now on the stand, it's a 2 man job getting it back on the bird ! Keep those seals clean & the paint where it sits waxed extra good ! Jim & Kay in Iowa
