Would like to take Poll. How many of us drive bird almost on daily basis? How many of us drive bird twice a week or less

My office is over 60 miles one way. I drive my bird three to four times per week. I drive my wife's car the other days. The bird makes my commute more enjoyable.

CARTOY is just as the name implies: purely for PLAYTIME!

So, the final answer is: Twice a week, or less.

Ours is an occasional use car. Every Wednesday evening for dinner, Dot uses it every Thursday night for her "girls night out", most Saturdays for breakfast and any other time we find a good excuse. It has been averaging over 1000 miles per month.
Dot is currently adding 6 western states to its # of states.
CO, WY, UT, ID, OR and WA.

We drive the Birds less than once a week each. But when we drive, it's usually not short in town trips. I have only driven mine to work once and I worried all day since it was in the parking deck (although in a remote part of it. I think JerryP may have driven his to work once.
The last time Jerry drove my grey around town, some lady followed him all over our little town!!! He did look pretty good in it!!

Mine was brought home on June 19 and now has about 1300 miles. It will eventually become my everyday drive to work. I have been on a summer sabbatical that will end on Sept. 2. I love driving the bird.

I drive mine to work once a week if it doesn't rain - 52 miles one way. I also like to drive it around town on Saturday's and Sunday's - '03 bought on 4/9 and it has around 2000 miles on it. Will for sure be put away for the winter

Summer fair weather cruiser. Two or less times per week in summer, "Shiny Blue" will be 2 years old Sept 10th (although we took delivery on the 27th), and now has just over 9,000 miles. I think it's time for a cruise... bye, bye!

Usually on Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting.
Only 1300 miles on it to date.

I was driving mine to work everyday at first, but only live 3 1/2 miles from work.
Now only drive it on Saturdays and Sunday (sometimes on a Friday to work, just cause I love driving it).
I did make the Thunder Valley and Pa trips. Have 3,000 miles on it. Had it six months.
Those of you who only drive yours on weekends must be only weather permitting since you have so few miles on them.

7,000 miles in 16 months.....2 to 3 short trips a week and then for all our TBird get togethers(Destin, ThunderValley, Lake Lanier, Gainesville, etc.)

I will average 5,000 to 6,000 miles a year.

All right I have to ask, how can you people not drive the thing. I try as hard as I can, I think I’m doing good – 4 months 2000 miles, but I walk outside, the sun is shining, it's in the upper 80's and I have a choice, get in my 1992 Cougar with 220,000 on it sitting in the sun or my nice cool 2003 convertible T-Bird sitting in the garage with the top down screaming DRIVE ME PLEASE DRIVE ME - how do you resist???

yelobird2002

Maybe once a week during summer and once a month in winter. Almost 2 years old and just broke 4,000 miles.

Chuck,
It's not easy. I'm on the road alot with my job, so I have a company car for that (wouldn't think of using the Bird for that!). This luxury also allows me to keep her in the garage in inclement weather (I'm kinda anal about that). She's 13 months old and has 6800 miles (1900 of which were put on during our Centennial trip in June).

redbirdsal
Aug 13, 2003, 09:11 PM
Able to Resist?

Love the car, but it's not suitable for day to day. Don't like to drive it around daily, i'm just too protective of it! Prefer to take it on day trips. When I have a few hours, and the weather is nice, I will take it around town. I love the attention, but am not comfortable leaving CARTOY unattended.

It's my only car now, so I'm a daily driver, but I never have to go very far, my office is only 6 miles from home, and I don't have to travel more than a few blocks for anything I need, including the BIG MALL. So, since June 26th, I have only put 810 miles on my car. In fact, every car I have owned has under average mileage because of this.

I would love to take a road trip in my bird - the ride is always too short!

I'm retired now so I don't have to drive to work every day. However, the Tbird is 'my' car and my wife's car is a leased car. So I am not supposed to drive hers without her. Had the car for six weeks nearly and have 1100 miles on it. I was putting about 7000 miles a year on my Jeep. It had some cooling system problems, so I wasn't taking it to the mountains, etc.

Chuck
Aug 14, 2003, 05:58 AM
FEsTbird - that's my plan -- I would like to hold on to it until I retire and then make it my daily driver. Got a little over 15 years to go.

YLO BRD is a summertime, when the sun is shining driver. Like someone said on another thread, we take it out for rides, "just because". Currently have 11,000 miles on it, took delivery on 2/12/02 and its only major trip was Thunder Valley.

Weekends, date nights with the bride and TBN get togethers. 9,000 in 15 mos. From reading this thread I see why we do not see more birds on the road.

I need to stay under 7500 for insurance purposes. I have 7300 on it now. I drive to work twice a week. About 16 miles total. After September 1, I will go on a 1 week vacation to the Black Hills SD. I will put 2000 miles on it then and drive it more often after that.

I work for the University of Nebraska and park it in an empty parking lot now. Soon School will start. I may not take it to work as much after that. I'll just do evening cruises and short trips.

Purchased mine initially with the intent of making it a garage queen, only to be taken out on weekends and show days. After buying it from a dealer in Irving Texas and driving home to San Antonio I decided this great car was not going to become a garage queen and was going to be my daily driver. I have driven nothing but 4X4 trucks since 1987. Am daydreaming of another-- soon!!

As much as I wish I could keep the miles down, mine is a daily driver...even if it wasn't my daily driver, I don't know if I could resist taking her out and stretching her legs several times a week! My work commute is 42 miles round trip, but I carpool with the boss, so she gets out 2-3 times during the week, and some on the weekends...have had her for just over 14 months, and have just under 14K miles...

I just drive it occasionally. I never bought mine to be a daily driver and enjoy the "new car" feeling each and every time I turn the key. It leaves the garage several times a week, but rarely for long trips.

Only take mine out in ideal weather conditions. Since my office is only 1.5 miles from the house, I don't accumulate many miles driving to work.

We also try to go for a drive at least once each weekend.........weather permitting.

I drive my T-Bird maybe a couple times per week. For the occasional odd trip running errands or to visit friends and such. And for sure on weekend trips to visit relatives. I have nieces and nephews who love to see me if they get a ride, or if I let them take it for a spin (with me in the car too, of course!).

I've still yet to top 1800 miles, and 330 of those were on the car when I bought it!

Bought mine in May 2003 and only have 1500 mi on it. I use my 94 Bird for work, mostly, but when it's a convertible day, like today, I use the 2003.

Having two convertibles is getting to be a problem. Just not getting the use out of the 64 Galaxy that I used to.

When I retire, 4/05, I hope, the 94 gets dumped and my wife and I will have the 2003 and, most likely, a new Ford/Merc product, whatever that might be. (4 dr; no SUVs for me)

Probably dump the 64 galaxy then too, and concentrate on restoring the 58 Bird. (I would rather have the 58 Bird as a clean/driver car than a "show car".)

Daily.
Is now my primary car. BUT...
I am now shopping for a small truck for daily drive. Damn hard to find a medium mileage compact truck W/AUTO for a decent price.
I must have a truck in order to carry spring plants, dirt etc. I can only carry small sacks from grocery store now ( or so I tell the wife).
Bird is awesome BUT not exactly practical for everyday driving.
Another reason we see so few on the road.

Daily driver,
Also takes the trip from philly to harrisburg, philly to DC, or DC to harrisburg 3-4 times a month depending where I have to work that week.
The mileage pay was better with my accord... the driving experience is the T-Bird makes up for that!
