hi folks,

you may remember me from bon, then, "another site".

i got tired of the fighting, rude attitudes, and then censorship of my posts (even though they were nowhere near being offensive to anyone) so i disappeared for awhile.

hopefully, this site will be more friendly and interested in the exchange of help and ideas. (it seems as though it is.)

so, i had more light-colored gray smoke coming from my engine bay again today. (near the firewall, coming out on the driver side.) it's about the 4th time it's happened, but the last time was about 6 months ago, so i figured it had gone away.

i'll be taking the car in soon for the seatbelt recall + tightening the x-braces+alignment, so i'll have them look at it. i expect a "we looked at it and didn't find anything" answer.

also, this evening, as i was revving the engine for fun in park, i noticed that the engine began sputtering (seemingly stopping some of the cylinders from firing) whenever i would rev over 3000 rpms. it sounded horrible. does anyone else's car do this??? is it some sort of safeguard or do i have some other problem? note: the car DOES rev over 3000 rpm when i am in gear.

so, that's my long story.

hope everyone is doing well.

Welcome NMTbirdLA. Yes, many of us are escapees from that other forum for the same reasons...too many of us to count.

You will love this forum. The guy that runs it is terrific...and you will see most of your old friends from a year ago are on this forum.

So just enjoy yourself here and say whatever is on your mind.

I haven't tried the reving in park thing but I would do this for the service tech so they could see what your talking about. Is it possible that it could be related to your smoking issue? Hopefully your dealer will do some investigation into your concerns and not just the standard customer service speech. Please report back on what you find out and if they are able to track down the problem and correct it.

The cars probably have a rev limiter on them so they can't be over revved in neutral. My automatic Taurus SHO has the same feature. Just a safety precaution. I'm sure Ford is trying to prevent trannies from blowing up during warranty.

When I tried that, the same thing occured. I thought that something had gone really wrong, Viola! Ford, in their usual wisdom has put a rev limiter on most of their cars(inc. TBird) so we old folks can't put an louder axhaust, go to a cruise noight, flip it in neural and have a little sound here and there anymore. Not really sure why they do this, I think they are worried that some of us will "floor it" and bend a valve or something.
Real dumb. Eventually all car will be this way from Ford, at least.

shucks. while i know the start of my post is related to new members, i was hoping that my post would have lived in the general chit chat area since what i was most concerned with was the technical issues. oh well. maybe i should have posted 2 separate posts.

thanks for the welcome. good to "see" you all again.

happy motoring.

(not necesarry to further move this post, by the way. i'll just post again later.)
