Redline Racer,
Welcome to the nest and thanks for the kindly offer. That's real generous of you.
While I am not the mechanic of the bunch, there are several out there who are and hopefully they will be able to give you some info.

redline racer, Welcome to the nest. I had a 95 Bird and had about 35,000 miles on it before I sold it and had no problem with the trans in it except it did start to hesitate a little at about 28,000 and I changed the filter in the trans and put in new fluid and everything was fine after that. Hope this helps. I also had to do the same thing with my 97 F-150 at 30,000 and that took care of the problem.

redline racer,
Welcome! My parents used to live in Belen, NM. During a trip out to visit them last year, I had to replace the battery in their van. We were in Old Town for the day and decided to pick up a new one before going back home to Belen. We bought the replacement in your store!! Who know's, you may have sold it to us! Talk about a small world.

redline racer you did not mention what type of problem you are having with the transmission. When I was a Service Writer for a Ford Dealer 1-2-95 to 7-14-00 we saw quite a few Thunderbirds and Crown Victorias that the complaint was vibration that felt like driving on a washboard road. This problem was the torque convertor which is the hydraulic link between the engine and the transmission. If you explain what your symptoms are we may be able to help.

Redline racer.
I have a 94 at 182,000 and a 95 at 117,000 Neither with any Tranny problems. I had the washboard problem at 20k and was told ther is a special Ford addative that needs to go in with the fluid at change out. It prevents a breakdown in the torque convertor and should be changed every 20-25k ( I now do my tranny every year (about 18K). that's the short version. Anyhow, (KNOCK ON WOOD) no problems to date in either car.

My 1997 Ford Crown Victoria did that same thing at 40000 miles. I took it in and they had to replace the whole transmission. They said it was the lock-up torque converter pressure was bad. Good thing I bought the extended warranty!
