Jan 17, 2012, 02:46 PM
Thanks to Jim Sasso aka Hill on Wheels, for getting the ball rolling on a DFW area event at Pappasitos for this year. It will not be on the same weekend as the other Pappasitos events but will be on

FEB 11, 2012, a Saturday, starting at 11am

Pappasito's in Fort Worth -
2704 West Freeway
Fort Worth, TX 76102
Cross Street: Forest Park and I-30W - exit 12 off of I-30. Just south-east of the Amon Carter complex

Note that this is just a few days before Valentines day so you can make this a special outing for your sweetheart.

RSVP here if you're able to attend as we need a final headcount for the restaurant in time for them to prepare the right amount of food for us. We've given them a minimum headcount of 40 to reserve a room for us and we will need to meet or exceed this count.

We are starting earlier in the day in hopes of making it easier for parking.

More info coming here, along with emails to my DFW area group.

Location will be the same as last year's DFW Pappasitos luncheon on the west side of Ft. Worth near the Will Rogers Complex.

Menu and cost in message 22 below

Will plan to attend. I have new thin whitewalls on tires for those who wonder how this looks on a Tbird. I think it improves it. White wall is about 5/8" wide. Tire is Vouge. Purchased them from Detriot retailer and had them shipped to Dallas for about $780 total.

Please count us in for this year. We were waiting to make sure we could clear our schedule. Is there going to be a set menu, or can we order what ever we want (we pay of course)?

Ray & Irene, there will be a set menu. Here's the details:

Famous Fajita Buffet - with choices of chicken & beef to make your fajita & includes rice & frijoles a la charra, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream, cheddar cheese & fresh flour tortillas.
Also includes iced tea, soda or coffee. cost $16.95 plus tax & 18% tip . Comes to just under $22/person, other drinks are extra. We will be on separate checks.

As requested by others, we'll also be visiting a museum after lunch. The National Cowgirls' Museum is "just around the corner" by the Amon Carter complex. Learn about our heritage and the women who helped shape the west, rodeos, ranching, and our western states.

Cost is $8 for seniors (60+) or $10 if younger. City Parking is charged at the complex. $5/car.

(had planned to visit a Toy Museum but they will not be open that afternoon). Maybe next year.

Address for Pappasitos is in the first message above.

Weather update: Still looking OK for Saturday. If the forecast changes between now and then, it will just be some rain so there won't be any canceling of the "event".

Will have some doorprizes again this year but not as many as last year.

Pappasito's weekend begins today for us as we will head out to Oklahoma City in a little while for a visit to Casa Green. Becky and Rosetta are planning a little shopping for tomorrow (thank goodness, we will be in the T-bird), while Bill and I find something to do to keep ourselves occupied (besides pray for our bank accounts).

Saturday morning we will caravan down to Fort Worth in a four bird flock for lunch with our Texas friends. After lunch and the Cowgirl Museum we are planning to go to Cowboys Stadium for a tour, then over to Dallas to spend the night at a Crown Plaza Hotel near the Galleria.

Should be a fun weekend!

Well Dot, we've had a couple of dropouts, and a few late joiners, but, it looks like we're up to about 41 attendees...

:pbj::pbj::pbj::pbj:

Sounds like a PARTY to me!!

:pbj::pbj::pbj::pbj:

If you're fairly local, and have been on the fence, NOW is the time to post that you'll be joining us.
And, if you're new to the group, don't worry! There are other folks coming for the first time, too.
Everyone is invited, and I promise you'll leave feeling like you've known us forever, and you'll be ready for the next event!!

But, you need to let us know you're coming, so we'll have plenty of food, seating and servers.

As with all events getting there is a lot of the fun. Our trip to Ft. Worth is keeping up that tradition.

As scheduled the gals went shopping today. That left Bill & I the opportunity to find something fun to do on our own. As you might expect what we chose had to do with Thunderbirds. No, not the ones you are probably thinking about.

I'm talking about the 45th Infantry Division "Thunderbirds" who distinguished themselves so well in WWII, Korea and even our current actions in Iraq & Afghanistan. We visited their museum today and thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits as well as visiting with a WWII veteran Thunderbird who told us many interesting stories of his time in France & Germany.

After the museum we visited the state capitol building.

We had a great time and by all accounts the gals did too.

Tomorrow - on to Texas

We missed you andLinda, James.

It was a wonderful Meet!
Thunderbirds, good friends, both new, and old, and good food!
What could be better?

Well, I'll tell you...
the D/FW Pappasito's 2012 attendees raised $???.?? for St. Jude's Hospital!

I'll bet you're all curious. Just a litte bit?
Well, as Paul put it, this is TEXAS...

I'll wait and let Paul and Gary announce the total, and the generous couple who doubled our original donation!

As Sally said, it was a really fun gathering of friends and great looking T-birds. Unfortunately, the north wind gave us a wind chill in the teens, so we didn't get to spend much time in the parking lot.

As expected Texans, Okies and couple from Arkansas, go BIG when it comes to giving to those in need. The Ft. Worth Pappasito's crew are donating $143 to the St. Jude fund raising effort as one half of a 50-50 pot. CONGRATS are in order as the Pappasito's group will become a member of the Ben Franklin Club.

To top that off, our winners of the drawing immediately donated their $142 in winnings to St. Jude. WAY TO GO ---- KATHLEEN & JOHNNY MARSHALL (Johnny Tbird) !!!!! That kind of generosity is something for us all to emulate. Johnny kept telling me how great a choice St. Jude is for our charity for TBN 10 Thunder. I told him I couldn't agree more. Anything that helps sick kids is a great thing.

Thanks go out to Dot for bringing some door prizes and for selling a few left over Texas Thunder patches for the charity. That puts us $8.00 closer to our goal. Every little bit helps!!! Remember, how we get there ..... One donation at a time.

After lunch we were able to enjoy The National Cowgirl Museum and then the OK/ARK gang went to tour the house that Jerry built. Cowboys Stadium truly is a wonder to behold and even the gals really enjoyed the tour.

Another great day in the history of TBN .... Thanks for the memories!

stat report - 5 out of state cars, total of 23 t-birds arrived carrying about 43 people. Another good line-up of T-birds. Due to cold weather, we didn't get a group shot.

Some got caught up in the road construction which delayed a few arrivals. Everyone enjoyed the lunch and getting to know some of the others there. We had quite a few new comers. and some "old" standbys!

I'll be adding pics to the Pappasitos 2012 event photo gallery (http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/membergallery/showgallery.php?cat=701)

Thanks to Jim, Dot, and Sally for a fun event.

We enjoyed seeing and meeting everyone there. I think
there was 2 or 3 couples that this was their 1st Event.

We also enjoyed the Cowgirl Museum and the Dallas Cowboys

What a great way to start 2012.

See you in Nashville!
