I agree with Bill and Tom, it is sort of like a democarcy. When only a few people participate you are only sampling a very small portion of the populace which isn't necessarily a good thing.

Dave Martin, nice color choice with the silver & sand. I didn't know the sand top was available with the silver - looking good!

We keep getting nice weather here in Virginia so haven't put the hard top on, 65 degrees today, top down to and from work, very nice!
Also just ordered the clear strips talked about in other posts so will get them sometime next week and probably put the top on over the Thanksgiving holiday. Promise to send pictures when I get the top on, should have taken a few when I brought it home from the dealer.

A dealer here has a silver with a black top. I believe it is a silver on silver and they just put a black top on for a few days. I like them both but my personal pick would be the silver on silver.

And with that sand interior---WOW!!
I think different colored hardtops really make these cars unique. It's my favorite look. Now I need to get a black top for my grey. It won't have quite the contrast yours does. I really like that contrast between the lighter silver and the black. Good job ordering, Dave!

Wish I could say I thought it through that well-- I was at the Ford dealer looking at F150 trucks, was almost ready to buy and my wife asked me why I wasn't looking at the new Tbirds since I had talked about them since they came out.
Dealer had the silver/black and a VMG/black on the lot. Liked the VMG but wasn't sure I would still like it a year from now. The VMG has a definite "retro" look to it which is very neat-- we decided to go with the silver/black as we thought it was elegant as opposed to retro.
Very happy with the choice, thanks for the comments.
Do you have a hard top today for your gray tbird? I'll be the look would be very similar.
Thanks again.
K.P.
Nov 27, 2003, 02:13 PM
I have only the MSGrey hardtop. I'd love a black, and it would look interesring on Jerry's Yellow, too. If I ever get another TBird, it WILL have a different hardtop color.

I find it sad that I the owner of TME2FLY is the only one who thinks the car looks great. As of now I formally withdraw her from the December competition. She will never be entered again. Take the silver, the blue, and rest that is fine with me. The one true color that really makes this car look great is the Torch Red.

I have to say something... Whether you have blue, green, silver, grey, white, yellow, merlot, red, etc etc. If you have fenders, partial, or full accent... if you have wide whitewalls or custom dash kits, borla exhaust or nitrous. This is one of the most beautiful cars of my generation and it doesn't matter about the colors, the extras, the add ons or the customs. You are automatically a winner just by owning the car. I would consider myself extremely lucky just to be able to ride in one..
There are no losers here.

The discouraging part is when we publicly state that someone else's car is "ugly".:nono: :nono: :nono:
While we all have our preferences in colors, evidenced by our purchase choice, and while we have our opinions of others' colors and/combinations, it is prudent to keep our opinions to ourselves when tying to keep harmony in a group this size.
The TBOM contest takes much more into consideration than a particular car color. Background, composition and quality of the photo all play a part as well. Contestants should keep that in mind when submitting an entry.

Nov 28, 2003, 03:28 PM
Now Blunbird, you know sometimes it's hard to keep harmony in a group of two.

Nov 28, 2003, 03:41 PM

Tom, I appreciate your kind remarks. I guess I am so attached to my car that I felt compelled to defend her poor showing in this month's car of the month voting. If I offended anyone in particular I apolgize for my insensitivity. It was a natural reflex on my part. I am proud of my car and was just upset by her showing in the voting.

Blunbird and others,
I see an increase in the voting from several months ago. I see no reason to discontinue the contest as everyone looks forward to it, including the photographers who have to be watching for when the contest opens for the month and get their photo in before it closes.
The hard part is that there is only one winner. [I do have a solution for that]. The real plus is that we see a continuous group of photos that are good to look at and we are able to see some of the same photographers, time and again, showcase their work for us. At least the "losers" keep getting to try, something the winners don't get to do again.
Just think, there are 12 members now that cannot compete for that "prize" of Thunderbird of the Month. We'd really be having a tough time if they were allowed in and only 10 photos could be submitted. The real losers are the ones that miss out on submitting their photos --- but a limit had to be set --- and they can post their photos in the gallery.
I certainly wouldn't be concerned about a low number of votes for any particular photo. I remember one month that I thought 4 photos were really outstanding and 1 of those photos only got 2 or 3 votes.
BLUNBIRD
Nov 28, 2003, 10:53 PM
Good comments 5bird7. Perhaps we could have some of the better photographers, like Chriscrete, Kokomo, and bird4jk offer some tips for taking these pictures that might help some of us who don't have that eye for composition.

Good ides...These guys consistently have good photos. Kokomo's work I have loved since I first saw his.
Maybe we should have a special thread or gallery for "Photographic Art" that would allow us to enjoy great TBird photos from past winners that are now unable to submit due to winning.

FUN X 3
Nov 29, 2003, 08:45 AM
I've entered the TOM contest several times with different photos. Some only got my vote, others got more. I have yet to win, but so what. The most fun part of it that I enjoy the most is creating the picture. Who cares if nobody besides yourself doesn't appreciate your car or your photo...have fun creating the photo, and keep enjoying your car, and keep entering the contest...don't take your ball and go home!
By all means let's not do away with the contest. I look forward to it every month. The only suggestion I would make is do away with the gallery rule, have people send their photos to the web site via email, and post the first ten entries with no TBN handle so it's anonymous.

Dec 1, 2003, 12:21 PM
DrtiBird -
We did consider that for the calendar. Then the question came up - where do you start the year and where do you end it. We cannot use current winners because we have to go to print before the year is up. If we back up into the year before, where do you draw the line without hurting someone's feelings?
Also, TBOTM winners have already won recognition with their cars and this was a chance for others to be recognized. The 2004 calendar is an effort in presenting all the colors. If we do another one for 2005, it will have a different theme.
I hope this helps.

For ALL of you that voted, and not just for my entry, I'd like to say "Thanks". The more members we have that cast a vote, the more representative the result is.
I appreciate my car being TBOM very much, and thank you for the honor. Every entry this month deserved to get TBOM. All were excellent photos. That makes it even more of an honor to get to carry the title this month.
I look forward to viewing more great ones next month, and some re-submissions of this month's entries.
