Got a copy of the order placed for my white/white/white 2003 Premium on 9/23/02. At the top is a heading "VIN #" and after that is "HP60A 3."
I don't really believe that is my VIN, but would like some clarification if anyone is in the know.
Many thanks,
Duke

That's the model number for 03' Thunderbird. Once your Vin is assigned, the scheculed build date will be known by your dealer and you can expect the car some 2 weeks after it's built. The vin# must have 17 digits, the last 6 being the "serial number".

Duke583: for more info on the VIN# and your order sheet, check out this thread (http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=1441&page=1)

That's how my order appeared up until a month prior to manufacture. Ford sets up a prelim. number with all the fixed numbers that do not change then about a month prior to fabrication they assign the remaining numbers that do change from car to car..... In the meantime Ford tracks your car with your personal order number.

It is about one month from getting the VIN to getting the car. The longest month you will ever experience....at least it was for us who waited for years for our car.
But, it is worth the wait.

I think I drove my dealer nuts during that month - Looking back it seemed like and eternity and I felt like calling every single day just to see if it came in yet.
Then when all was said and done - it came in a week and a half later than they expected...
At least the wait is worth it!!!!!!!!!!

Ours came in a week later than expected, too. Then a week after we picked ours up discovered the possible reason it was late. Another 'bird of the exact same description had come in when ours was originally supposed to. Don't think Ford wanted to deliver 2 exactly alike at the same time to the same dealer. Both had been originally sceduled to be shipped out at the same time but ours didn't make the shipment and "no one knew why".

I drove the dealer so nuts that after the third time he gave me a printout of all the t-birds that were ordered or scheduled to come into the dealer and their eta's.... It was very cool -and it allowed me to translate some of the codes since I was watching each and every T-bird that came in while I was waiting.

My salesman did the same for me. It really helped understand the ordering process. Was even able to get him to report the vin#s as they came into him.
