That sounds like one will have to be a winner of the Ford Sweepstakes in order to obtain a new Bond 007 Thunderbird. Figured that's how they'd release that one. Maybe we'll know more tomorrow when the ad campaigns start.

Gobird, very nice looking car! That actually looks like a coral color. The Ford/Bond promo pics look more red, plus it has the white top. I wonder what top the actual car(s) in the movie will have, since the Bond replicars will have the white. (I know, this info is probably out there, but I'm feeling lazy at the moment.) I thought I remember reading that the coral color wasn't going to be ready in time for the filming, so they were going to use red, but I could be out of date.

To my knowledge the color "Sunset Coral" is the same color used on 1956 Fords - it is a salmony pink color - not as red as appears on Ford's Web Site.

Also check out this months Glamor Mag - A friend found a double page Revlon ad with pull out sweepstakes card featuring the "live like a bond girl" sweepstakes - The back of the pull out card features a small pic of the t-bird. If I can remember I will scan and post the card.

sunset coral is a really pink color from the examples I've seen on the 56s. The Bond car looks much closer to the 56 "fiesta red." - kind of a tomato soup red, only the Bond car seems to have more orange in it.

It is Strange - The first publicity shots on the Ford Web site back a few months ago were the correct Sunset Coral color - I agree the color they are showing now is very close to the 1956 Fiesta Red....

I hope the color is more along the lines of the Sunset Coral - That Fiesta Red never really looked that good on the '56's (At least not as good as the '55 or '57 Reds....)

I always thought that Fiesta red looked like Campbells tomato soup with milk added. The 55s had a Torch red the 57s had Torch red and Flame red. I think both reds were the same. My 57 is Torch red

Dot - A download accelerator is a program that speeds up downloads by downloading files from more than one site, if possible. The one I use is "Download Accelerator Plus", a free download from http://www.speedbit.com . It runs in the background and integrates with your browser, automatically doing multiple site downloads when possible.

You must right mouseclick and "enable" or "disable" occasionally as needed. I normally leave it enabled unless it gives me a problem (which is what happened when I wanted to see the "Stories" at the Ford website a few months ago. You may remember my posts when I was resolving those difficulties).

I too have been unsuccesful in downloading the trailers. They are streaming videos, and when I save them I just save the website shortcut. Will try again in a few days.

BTW - did you notice thet the 007 desktops from the Ford site show white and coral tops on the car? The pic with Halle from the movie shows coral, so I assume the white is simply an early promo pic, and not from the movie.

not sure but the white top appears to be how they will be marketing the special editon car since it will have the white interior- all their ads for the special edition show that and their movie shots show the coral top. I suspect the movie car has the coral top and the special editions that will be for sale will have the white top. Think the white top looks best on the car anyway.

From one of the Ford support sites:
Ford will produce 700 of the James Bond edition Thunderbird vehicles in 2003. The James Bond edition Thunderbirds will feature a white-trimmed steering wheel, shift knob and lower door panels. The white perforated leather seat inserts will be surrounded by black leather. Understated "007" badges are found on the instrument panel and floor mats, while the Thunderbird insignias are located on the seat backs. Side-by-side "Thunderbird" and "007" badges appear on the interior aluminum appliqué.

Went one step further and found a photo of a Fiesta Red 56 so you may compare all 3 colors.

Both of the 56's are concours cars. The Sunset Coral will be ready to show this summer and should be in the high point range as I know the painter and owner. The Fiesta Red 56 was shown at New Jersey this past summer.

If I remember tomorrow I will scan in a shot of the 1964 Mercury "Calypso Coral" it is almost dead on to the new "Coral" T-bird..... "
"Calypso Coral" is pretty close to the '56 Fiesta Red - just a tad bit lighter....

It May be interesting just for reference - especially since the '02 T-bird blue is a dead on match to the '63 T-bird color "Patrician Green" It seems Ford is recycling colors from a variety of years......

Why is everyone so worked up about the 007 "coral" not matching the '56 "coral"? Coral, as in the plant/rock(?) that is found in the ocean comes in a variety of colors from very red/orange (used in Indian jewelry) to white/pink. My thought is that FORD wanted a color that stood out on the movie screen and looked great next to Halle Berry (who looks very nice in that "coral" bikini by the way). Did they go back and match one of their previous colors? - Who knows.

5bird7
Nov 6, 2002, 11:30 AM
You are correct that coral covers a wide range of colors - as does turquoise and the coral on Halle's bathing suit was an excellent choice.

Part of it is that Ford spokes people have related the color to the Sunset Coral - most recently - last Sunday's Today Show - and earlier this year, there were printed toy fliers showing the 'coral sand' on the model. About 2 or 3 years ago, Ford had a Thunderbird color poll out with the 57 'coral sand' color on it.

Just about every one I know that wanted the coral color had been expecting the color to match the 56 or 57 coral colors. They were disappointed.

The coral diecast model I have just about exactly matches the Fiesta Red color and I've never heard anyone call that color coral.

Personnally I like the color they picked - for this car - it was not a popular color on the 56 though, but then, neither was the Sunset Coral. Finding a Suset Coral 56 is a rare find and why one went to a high dollar amount at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Arizona last year.

I think most of the colors that Ford has used on the new Thunderbird have been related to earlier colors of the Thunderbird, particularly the 55-57s - even to the point of using some of the same names.
