I was wondering if it might be possible to organize a chat with Destin participants for those of us not fortunate enough to take part. If those who are taking laptops can find a convenient time and place to get online we can all join in. Might be fun to hear some on the scene reporting and an interactive chat would give us the sense of being there. What do you think? :wavey:

I will be bringing our laptops and we can just leave them on! We can take turns chatting. Someone is going to have to take over for my nap time, even I stop chatting for that! Sound like a wonderful idea tr cruiser. YES are we there yet!!!!!! cindy

No joy, Joy. I'm afraid there won't be many of us driving to Destin from the West Coast. 5,000 miles and 80 hours driving time (round trip) make for a long weekend. Like I said in the Driving Distance discussion, the organizers have to find a more central location to make next year's event transcontinental.
I would like to be there in spirit if you guys can coordinate it. If you can spare an hour from the revelry, we can all meet in the TBN chat room. Are you staying at a motel with Internet access in your rooms? Pick the best time.

But I am still splitting shifts with bob for nap! Lets see have I been asleep 1 hour our 2 hours, I can't spell or count! r we ther yet

This discussion is topped for the next few days to make it easier for people to find chat times. If no one at Destin posts a time, well, I guess it just means they're all having too much fun! :toungue:
While I won't be able to join you for this one, I will be out cruisin' and enjoying our fine weather here in Northern California. Will keep an eye on the board for those chat times, so don't forget us stay-at-homes! :wavey:

Well, we're here .... 9 cars so far. We'll send a report later tonight. The trip was great .. back roads in Alabama and Florida made it more interesting than the interstate. Talk later. We'll try to set up a chat time for tomorrow and let you all know what time.

I hope you all have a great weekend out in Destin....It appears by the lack of posts on the site that a good portion of the members are out there.
Enjoy and have one for us!!!!

I'm sorry for the lack of posts from us, but it's really a mad house here. So far today, about 40 T-Birds have arrived. We washed about 30 of them and have met old web friends for the first time. Tonight we have hired 2 busses to take us to the Back Porch for dinner, then back here for some more talk. It's quite a site seeing so many new T-Birds in one place.
I'm going to try to post a few pictures in the Gallery. I hope I can get them there since we are on a dial-up connection, it may take some time. Stay tuned.

Well, it sounds like the fun has started already. I don't know if I want to monitor this thread or not-it makes us wish we were there all that much more! Hopefully, next year. It was good to get a little taste of the Destin "adventure", when I was able to dine with Gobird, Judy, Thunderbubba, Joy & Helen on Wed night. I enjoyed it immensely. And I guess you can multiply that experience by, say, 20 times or so to get the Destin experience more into perspective. You all have a great time, and keep the messages and photos coming!!!!!

TbirdTim-
Thanks for sharing the pics. That is truly awesome to see that many T-Birds in one place. I hope you're all having a blast, and maybe we'll see you there next year! Please send more pics if you get the chance.

If anyone is interviewed about the trip, mention the site, that would be great coverage. It looks like you guys are having an awesome time and we are all happy for you. Hopefully the weather down there is nothing like here... crap! HAVE FUN!

Destin was awsome for me. The site and weather could not be better. To see so many great cars, each just a little unique to its owner. Everyone getting along and pitching in little help here and there. The Drive-in was way cool. David A did an outstanding job of setting up audio and video. He had specially made up tapes of Ford footage and commercials. Wade Bridges was the guest engineer from Ford. His program was less formal and more interactive. We covered no new ground than we've covered previously on the forum. Thunderbubba squeezed under the fronts of several cars and checked the torque on cross braces. Wade assured us that the bolts are designed for 40 ft lbs, won't come loose and that 40 ftlbs, feels like they could snug up more. I enjoyed offering my background on collecting, how the History Channel taping was done and some views on Thunderbird heritage and community. I tried some humor, maybe I should stick to collecting.
Sunday's drive to Seaside rounded up a one mile long caravan of Thunderbirds with police escort. Sorry I had to leave early. Dot Lang made a wonderful Thunderbird logo quilt that was raffled. Not many tickets in any of the raffle baskets. One lucky winner!!
More posts will come. No follow up yet on media coverage. Last week two local papers had half page articles with press pictures of Thunderbirds.

Just returned from Destination 2002. The event far exceeded my expectations. Kudos to the organizers for a job VERY well done.
It was great to finally put some faces with the screen names. Also enjoyed socializing with everyone.
Start ticking off the days until Destination 2003!
