My PCR is 3 days old developed a nagging little rattle that sounds like it is coming from the trunk lid or rear trunk light box
any ideas?

check in the tire well it could be your bag of lug nuts rolling around or a loose jack handle?is the top on or off have you put your strips on yet? be sure to keep those cats away from your car as mine was clawed very badly by my neighbours cat,

I got a buck or two that says that the hard top is on!!! Fix is copious amounts of Silicon (carefully applied) and reliance on taflocks finally getting Ford to cough up the SS fix!! :):):):):)

I apologize for my last post...it was flippant and disrespectful!
My experience has been that ALL rattles and noises eminating from behind the drivers/passenger seat have been caused, directly or indirectly, by friction between the hard top and the body of the car. In the fall I siliconed the shit out of the top and the mickey mouse plastic tape stripes. The car is a daily driver and after the "bath" in silicone the "noises" dissappeared, re-appearing only about a week ago. This sucker has been absolutely silent, even over railroad tracks, for 5 months! I figure the silicone has worn off. Prior to the silicone treatment I had thought the noises were caused by the lowered top shaking around in the trunk....wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong! The bottom line is that, in my experience, all annoying noises I got from the "back" are caused by friction between the hard top and the body, and are easily curred by the application of siliconce. End of story!!

the kicker is the top is OFF. I actually got in the back seat ,,with the passenger seat all the way up...and had a neighbor drive...it seems like its coming from on top of that square indent box structure in the trunk,,I,m too big to get in the trunk and ride...I don't know any vertically challenged people

I'm with taflocks on this one...10 bucks says it's coming from the spare trunk well...had a similar problem in mine and took everything out of the well that I could and found a loose screw rattling around down there. Removed it and problem solved.

Jan,
Come on down to Thunder Isle topless in your new Bird. I'm sure some of our "expert" members will be more than glad to give you a hands on inspection to find your rattle.

I agree with these guys. Unless some foreign object was left in the small cubby hole compartment, then most likely it is coming from the spare tire well. Loose components are sometimes placed in the well. Either area is easy to inspect. Just pull the plastic plugs to inspect the cubby hole area, but I would definitely check the spare tire well first.

Where is Thunder Isle? You van go to the "Upcoming Events" board and read all about it.
Our '03 had a flap-flap noise (not a rattle). Turned out the felt panel in the trunk (left side fender) was loose and making the noise. Dealer did something to stabilize it. Don't know if this could be your problem, just a thought.

"the kicker is the top is OFF. I actually got in the back seat ,,with the passenger seat all the way up..." wow... a back seat eh. what year is yours again? just teasing. my first guess would be something loose in the spare tire compartment.

Cool, you got a four-seater???
Anyway, ThunderIsle is at Lake Lanier north of Atlanta GA, May 20-May 23. Do what you have to in order to get there, it will be a blast! It will be one of our personal highlights for 2004.
