View Full Version : Florida Birds, ready to cruise again?!?!

How about a Central Florida Cruise? Birds in Paradise, with a twist!

Thunderbeach was so much fun. Brian (the Chevy Guy) and I would like to invite you to cruise here in Central Florida. Before we get too deep into planning anything, I want to see who might be interested.

The event would be in October. We can enjoy some fall air. Well, it would be less hot than usual, and would encourage going TOPLESS! :omg: (Now, now....this is a family event!) Possibly Oct 2nd/3rd or 23/24. It would be a one day deal. Which would you prefer, a Saturday or a Sunday?

The tentative plan, after a meet and greet time, would include a morning cruise of historic Winter Park,(just North of Orlando), grand estates, parks, lakes, Rollins College and the famous Park Avenue shopping district, and perhaps a photo stop. Then a surprise detour for a special, unique tour that you will talk about later. That will be followed by a COMPLIMENTARY lunch  ---provided by your hosts with no fire, no cooking, no gritty food, no rain. Then, right after dessert, another surprise -- oh you'll like this!

Then an afternoon cruise, to one of the surrounding communities with a stop or two for restrooms, more pictures, and ice cream, and then ending at a location very near to I-4 for easy access for your trip home. Just show up in your birds and be ready to have a fun day. We will do ALL the rest. (I might check with the SpaceCoast T-Bird club to see if any want to join us in their classic birds.)

What do you think? Anyone interested? I need some feedback before I invest a lot of time and effort in arranging this. If it is well received, I would have to cut off registrations at about 15 to 18 cars --- I don't think that I could handle more than that. Don't ask me too many questions because I don't want to give it all away this soon. Respond to this post, or e-mail me
or PM me. :talkphone

Boy, are you ever curious! Did anyone ever tell you that you are very inquisitive? If I tell you everything now, it won't be a surprise any more. YOU HAVE TO WAIT! Everything that you need to know will be shared in due time. Tentative date right now is Sunday, Oct 3rd.

NESTERS:
Beginning and ending points will both be somewhere along I-4, between Orlando and Altamonte Springs to begin and perhaps at I-4 and Rt 46 (Sanford) to end mid-afternoon.

Yes, I'll let you all know what the registration fee will be, but not to worry, it will be nominal and affordable. If you start now to save up for it, then you won't feel it when it is time to mail a check. ( There may be a surcharge for those living in Spring Hill or The Villages since they all seem to have an attitude.) LOL

Mark your calendars everyone, and send a post so that the planning can continue. We have 6 cars, so far. Y'all come!

Thanks for your interest. Right now there are more votes for Sunday, but I will ask again when I get more names of interested parties and we will let majority rule. You won't regret the trip, it will be a fun day. Perhaps you could consider driving up the evening before - I would even put you up if you don't have a place to stay over. We would welcome some birds from South Florida. My daughter lives in Plantation so you are like family.

(Note: this special offer for overnight accomodations does NOT apply to residents of Hernando County and The Villages). Pitch your own tent!

:talkphone :talkphone :talkphone Thank you Tom for clarifying the accommodations requirements. We, being from Pinellas County have heard sorted stories about our northern neighbors and their habits. I have also heard that they allow their birds to "GO" just about anywhere they choose... A discusting habit to be sure. Although we would certainly come up the night before, we would not think of impossing and will find suitable quarters at a nearby inn...

PS. To those of you from the "northern" provinces.. I have the number for a very nice place for you to stay it's 1-800-BEDSRUS. punch in specials code "murphy bed" :box: :box: :friday: :friday: :pbj: :pbj: :pbj:   :peaceblob :peaceblob

Have not heard from: 65TBSteve, Rembr55, OlDave, joe166, RTBRD, RidgePointCruiser, Hanzies Bird, THNDRBRD02, Spirit73, & tbirdtrbo.

If anyone knows these folks, call and invite them and any others you know in Florida. "Outsiders" are also welcome. The more the merrier (up to a cut off of about 16 or 18).

It is shaping up to one fine ride with lots of fun and surprises.

What happened? All that time up there in God's country, and you came back WITHOUT the accent - shame on you.
I'll show you - -you will get BOSTON BAKED BEANS for lunch here during the "Birds of Paradise" cruise in the Fall. Hey, that's better than gritty chicken!

Welcome "home", you were missed. Wished I could have hidden in your trunk - I had to settle for the pictures instead.

October is a long way off. I'm hoping that someone will organize a Florida cruise in the meantime. I need practice.

:backtotop :backtotop OK Tom, you've already had practice with the THUNDERBEACH CRUISE. it's easy to do. just know where you're going and how to get there and where to stop. It's as easy as that. As for Saturday or Sunday I know that's a tough choice. Some can't make it on either day. Maybe if you pick a definite day, those who can't make it now on that day will somehow find a way to reschedule those obligations they may have on that day and join us. I know it's a rather long way off, but maybe you could schedule a date and an itenerary now to help everyone schedule their time, Bear in mind some may be coming from some distance to join this ELITE group on this great ride on the west coast. Also, how about a couple of hints as to the happenings on this trip   LET'S ROLL!

My T
Jul 25, 2004, 07:29 PM
Paul and Faye - - -

Thanks for the pep talk. The route is partially worked out already and several of the little side issues have been resolved. It won't be long now till I post the firm date and complete information about "BIRDS IN PARADISE".

I know that our birds are not ducks. But, do they have webbed feet? I think that might be helpful for part of our tour. Also, there is a chance that the fire department may play a small role in this event. The Chevy Guy is helping but he has been banned from having anything to do with the lunch.

A fun day awaits you in October. Watch for the announcement with details. The wheels are turning.

PS: Paul, Orlando/Winter Park is NOT on the WEST coast. Your door prize is going to be a map of Florida. I don't know how you are going to find us if you leave Dunedin and go west. You have to drive EAST to get to paradise.

Dave123
Jul 25, 2004, 08:28 PM
Hope there aren't any "Round-A-Bouts" on the way there, or we'll never see Paul. Not that we'd miss him, but Faye was nice.

PS: Sorry, but I've got to plug for the Sunday Date. 3rd & 24th both work perfect, 23rd can be restled with, but the 2nd....eek!!(goin' to take a lot of work...)

Dave - - - - You know better than that. They are ROTARY CIRCLES. And, once in it, YOU have the right of way. You just have to remember to exit at some point. Paul is stuck in one. Not to worry though, he will run out of gas eventually.

Jul 26, 2004, 04:46 PM
Man, are you guys tough... Ok so I made a mistake and it may seem I don't know my east from west. However, when you live as far west as you can go in these parts it's hard to think of everything being west... OK forget it, I don't get it either :worried: :worried: As for a rotary circle or roundabout, I am still on it and still have 1/4 tank of fuel... This being a bird I should be out in about 15 minutes... :peaceblob :peaceblob

So to set the record straight.. "this great trip to the east of where I am, but to the WEST of those coming from the EAST coast. Now please let me up ok guys ? :bicker: :bicker:

See my new avatar - it is a prelude to the cruise here in October.
Rest up, you will have a busy day.

I guess that I will not get you a compass for a door prize since you seem to have it down now and know where you are going. I just hope that you will be able to find your way home when you head WEST at the end of the cruise.

The wheels are turning. Do you have a life jacket?

Goldwing - - - -get out the suitcases and start packing. The date for the BIRDS IN PARADISE cruise is ALMOST certain to be Saturday, October 2nd, but there are a couple of wrinkles that I am ironing out before I can confirm it for sure.
I think that we are up to 12 birds now and hopefully more when the final program is published on TBN, possibly next week. That will give everyone TWO MONTHS advance notice.
No dirty birds allowed - so, start your detailing soon.

The Orlando cruise sounds terrific! Sunday is a much better day for us. The first weekend in October will probably NOT work as our daughter from Chicago just called today to say she'd like to come down to visit that first weekend in October. So if she gets her flight and you guys definitely decide on the first weekend, we cannot come. But any other weekend in October would work for us. I'll keep watching for your input.

Sorry, there was no way to suit everyone's schedule. So, I sort of let majority rule and it came out to be Saturday. Steve in Sarasota wanted Sunday also, but he even needed a different weekend so regretfully I could not accommodate him. He needs to tell his daughter in Chicago that he has a prior engagement here and she should select another weekend to visit Florida.

I do wish you lots of luck rearranging your commitments. All I can say is that I have put together A FUN DAY and I sincerely hope that you and Claire can make it in that Merlot beauty, and that Steve and Karen can add Turquoise to the lineup of birds in paradise.

The program for the day will be posted soon. When you see it Dave, I think that you will decide to call in sick that day so that you can be here and treat your pretty bird to a little bit of Paradise.

My goodness Tom, you are some kind of sweet talker or what?... :santa: I have to agree with you on this one, Tom. This day is being planned 2 months in advance. I for one voted for Saturday. I did that for several reasons, not the least of which is that, not being retired like some of us, I want to spend Sunday recuperating before going back to work. Also, Sunday is a better day for us to spend with our family. I'm glad Saturday was selected, however, had you decided on Sunday, I would have had to have made a decision. That decision would be determined by my priorities, nothing else. Let's hear more about this SATURDAY trip... You've got me curious

Listen Mister, when we were awaiting the plans for the THUNDERBEACH cruise, you and the Springhill Duo kept us waiting for details till a very short time before the event. Three of you working on that could not come up with anywheres near TWO MONTHS advanced notice of the plans for the cruise. I know, I know, you work! Duh!

Yes, Brian, the Chevy Guy, is helping. But, his brain is a little off center from driving a Camaro too long. So, I have to double check everything and be sure it is Thunderbird friendly. I do NOT want to have egg on my face on October 2nd.

Curiosity killed the cat. I will revive you very soon with the information. I am anxious to see who you will pick on next after I give in to you. Poor Faye.

I resemble that remark. That's what all of those horses and torque can do to a guy. Must be all of the tire smoke.

:backtotop

Ladies and gentlemen, I have been to the top of the mountain and have seen the plans for this thing called "Birds in Paradise" on the other side and I am here to testify that it is good. Very good.

Despite being banned from the grill, I have been helping My T on this endeavor and I must say I am jealous that nothing like this has been offered by any of the statewide Camaro/Firebird/Muscle Car clubs. It promises to be quite an event. And while I am sworn to secrecy, I can tell you that Mrs. SuperSport's Chocolate Chip Cookies will be served during the festivities. The more the merrier. Tom had to go to Mass. on 8/23 to see his brother, who has been a little under the weather. I know a few more have signed up, but we would like to get a large caravan to go for a well deserved cruise with all of our TBird friends.
And OH!!!!!The stares, honking of horns and heads turning, just to see YOUR Tbird, is so overwhelming and what a proud feeling....HEY..They are looking at all of us. Come on guys & gals, sign up and we guarantee, you will have the time of your life. THere are no people, like TBird people. If you have any questions, notify MyT, Brian,(Supersport) OlDave, Bay-B or myself. We will do all we can to accomadate ya all.

Jerry and I will be in Jupiter Beach (I guess!) in January. the week of the 10th. He has a meeting to attend. I have to play. Maybe we can get some of us together then. I'm trying to talk him into us driving down rather than flying, so we'll have out TBird. Plus, I think it'd be a fun trip.
Think ahead, Florida Birds, think 'January' and let's see if we can do something then.

Hey Joe and Karyl you two may be on to something here. I get out that way a few times a year on business and I love staying at a place right on the water in Flagler Beach which is between Jupiter and St. Augustine. The place is clled the TOPAZ and has been there forever. A real nostalgic throwback to the 20's. The hotel itself although clean and well kept isn't the Ritz, but the secret to this place is the restaurant. It's called BLUE and it rivals any excellent restaurant I've been too. The fact that it's right on the Atlantic (across the street actually, but there's nothing on the beach side except a gazeebo owned by the hotel), opens the doors for some really neat beach party posibilities. And, the water in January would really seem like a bath to the visiting yanks who may come along. If I can find their website I'll attach it somewhere for all to see.

OCT 2.2004.
We just came back from PARADISE OlDave & I, along with 12 other Birds went to Orlando and had a wonderful day in Paradise. We viewed gorgeous homes, that most of us could'nt pay the taxes on, lest a mortgage, visited the town with coblestone roads with an old fashioned awe to it. Then we saw beautiful oceans and even got to go out on a canal boat ride. Back to the cars, more gorgeous scenerary and to the fire station and lined the birds up and photo time with the engines. Off to dinner, (they called it lunch, HUH!!) and we had our meal in a resturant that is usually closed on Saturday, but opened just for US !!We each received a wonderful gift from MyT, (Tom, )and even the Stones ,( who were warned they better come or else) with their problems came to join us. We played a Chinese swap game run by Brian and I never saw such little boys as Joe Varey, OlDave, Bob Stone, and a few others,( ladies acted like ladies, right Pat? )much to everyones enjoyment. We had a raffle and the proceeds went to donations to Catholic Charities for Hurricaine projects for needy families Bay-b donated an exqusite painting, and that monies also went to the same charity. All I can say is, What a HOWL !!! The Best friends you could have were there today.
We even had a motorcyclist bouncing in & out of line snapping pictures,( I was going to knock him off his bike, til I was told it was Toms son )a Chase Truck, (I was going to stop and ask him a few detailed questions like: Do you really want a TBird THAT Bad that you have to keep following us? Til I found
out it was Toms son )
following us, and even followed us when we went thru RED lights.
Very seriously though, this was a super, wonderful cruise and if anyone says they were bored(which they could'nt) would be loco!!!!!
We would like to give a EXTRA SPECIAL thanks, to an EXTRA SPECIAL man & his CHILDREN. MyT(AKA Tom Aglio) & Brian along with Brians wife, Kathy(TOM'S daughter), Stephen, (son) also our phantom motorcyclist, and Jay (son), also our Chase truck, all helped Tom along with other family members who made each lady a TBird apron. If ever you want to meet the sweetest man and his family, and I will VOLUNTEER to be his manager, along with Brian(CHEVY GUY-Superspot), they are EXTRODIANARY organizeers, it is Tom & his children. Steve even went home and put all the pictures of the Birds on a CD and presented us each one. Tom, & Brian, Cathy, Steven, Jay, & the others who helped you, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS, You did a fabulous job and we had a blast. I know I have left out the rest of the ride, as some of us left, but I am sure others will fill you in.
Those who attended were;
1.Tom Aglio & Brian Lewis---Winter Park
2.Joe & Celina Varey---Spring Hill
3,Paul Lepain & his friend, Nick---Dunedin....We missed Faye, as she had to stay with her sick, ailing dog. Missed ya, Faye !!!!!!!
4. Larry Cardrelli & Sally Grucza---Lakeland
5.Noel Moss...Lake Wales
6.Ron & Joan Loe---The Villages
7.Bob & Sandee Stone---Siesta Key
8.Lynn & Patricia Moorcroft---Lake Mary

10. Charlie & Bonnie Jost--Melbourne Beach
11.George Queen & Bettie Schaefer---Cocoa Beach

well, I learned that when Claire speaks, it's best to shut up and listen!

can't really add much to what everyone has said. and if I repeated it all, it still would fall way short of the praise and thanks due to Tom and his family. What a tremendous day.

an extra thanks for treating Sandee and me so special. we will never forget that day. Tbird friends are the best friends!

Words cannot describe this event. As the professor states sorry for those who could not attend. Truly the cruise of a lifetime. This was a one time deal, if it was repeated there would be a thousand cars there. Started with a street cruise, then a boat ride, then a delicious private lunch. How about that 12lb goody bag and then a chinese gift exchange, gifts supplied by our host. I scored a 2003 Desert Sky Blue 1/17 dicast. Patricia got a Maguiars leather cleaning and conditioning kit. I tried for goodies raffles and the art work, but struck out on all of them. Cant really complain as I was one of 13 winners by just being there. Thanks to Tom and his family for putting on such a great cruise.

Sorry I forgot to specifically thank Tom's Sons for organizing and the fotos taken thruout out the cruise and supplied to us via disc after lunch

Just one thing to add to Lynn's comments, it was the best. You really meet the nicest people driving a thunderbird. Thanks to again for a great day. Hope to see you in Lakeland. If the Space Coast Thunderbird Club had elections now, Tom will get more votes than Bush or Kerry.
