Speaking of dinner, my wife & I had dinner last night with 5Bird7 (Dot) & George last night at "The Big Texan" in Amarillo. Boy Dot & George both have packing the T-Bird for a trip down to a science. Good conversation with great people.

(Just spotted this thread.)
Justin and Justin, when you're not so busy, and there looks like an evening or afternoon open coming up, let us know and we'll get the ball rolling around here.
George & I have fairly open weekends thru February. Because of the traffic around here though, want to keep it on a weekend.

I'll be flying THROUGH Dallas on my way back from Maui next month. Do you like eating at the airport?!!

How long is your layover? and what day? - first 2 Saturdays of December are not available for us.
There's lots of restaurants just north of the airport.

the big texan is one of my favorite places to eat. we even stayed in the motel next door once. did you try the 72 ouncer?
5bird7
Nov 6, 2004, 09:44 PM
no 72 ouncer for us. George had the 12oz prime rib that comes out looking like about 1 1/2 lbs. He had cold steak on the road the next day.

Dot, George, Sally, Justin(s), Leon, Sam and other DFW area TBN members,
Rosetta and I are supposed to be down in the Dallas area this week Thursday, Friday and Saturday (November 10,11,12) to visit our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids (first time to see the new granddaughter!!!). Thought it might be nice if we could work out a lunch or dinner get together on one of those days. We are currently planning on driving the T-bird so we'll fit into any flock that we can put together.
We're open to just about any kind of food everyone else wants to eat if we can work out a little get together. I know it is a little spur of the moment, but hopefully we can be spontaneous for a little get together.
We look forward to seeing folks if we can work it out!

North Dallas - our daughter lives a couple of blocks off of Coit Rd, just south of the George Bush Expressway.

I live off coit too... but in frisco... far north of GB. Not too bad though ;).

Well, Justin, you just have to learn to travel!
Ok, Is Thusday evening open for everyone?
I was thinking of the Brazos Cattle Co. Restaurant which is right off of 75
401 S. Central Expy, McKinney TX 75070 phone: 972-727-1614
or
does someone have another suggestion that might be closer to GB? There's lots of restaurants along that corridor. We'll have a long drive to get there since everyone else that's responded lives on that side of town.

We are game for anywhere. Thursday will be fine. Anyway to make it easier on Dot & George? I've never eaten at Brazos but I have eaten at Texas Land and Cattle (texaslandandcattle.com). There are several of those around the metroplex. Anyway we can get a more central location? Brazos is fine if everyone thinks it will be better and Dot & George thinks it is worth the fairly long drive.

Well, of course we are in. Does it help with the traffic to eat a little later? We can eat early for that matter. Depends on what folks want to do. I'm getting excited thinking about seeing folks again.

Between 4 and 7 the traffic is bad. No matter what time we set this for, George & I will be on the road during peak traffic. Let's set the time for 7:30. I'll pm you my cell phone #
Haven't heard from either Justin if they can make it.

I CAN GO...
DON'T FORGET ABOUT ME.
I live next to White Rock lake 10 min north of downtown, I'll like to make it if its not to far away. There is a texas land and cattle off of lemon near down town, there wouldn't be any trafic after 6:30.

We need to nail this down. 7:30 sounds fine on the time. Have we figured out how to cut down George and Dot's drive? Someone that is more fimiliar with the territory than me will have to make a final suggestion. I need an address so Mapquest can help me get there.
Sorry about the short notice Justin(s), I was looking forward to meeting you both. Glad you can join us Michael. Surely there are other TBNers from the DFW area, but don't know how to get the word to them any better than this forum. It will be a good time no matter who shows up.

George & I are going to have to use the freeways to get to that side of the metroplex. We are just not familiar with the restaurants over on that side of the metroplex. .
Anything south of Brazos which is on the Allen/McKinney line would be fine with us if you want something closer for us. Anything around the GB tollway/ 75 will work for us as we want to avoid 635 east of the 35E/635 interchange. That freeway drives me nuts.
We have til 1:30pm Thursday to sort this out - after that we won't be around the computer and won't be answering cell phones for about 2 hours and after that should be on the road to get over there.
Michael - if you have a cell phone, pm me. I'll pm you with mine.

How about we try the Texas Land and Cattle in Richardson. It is right along I-75 north of I-635 (812 South Central Expressway - Richardson, TX 972-705-9700). Won't that make for a closer drive for George and Dot? Any body with a better idea?

After all of this planning - I hate to have to say that an emergency has come up here at home and we will not be going down to Dallas tomorrow.
Dot, George, Sally, Michael please accept our apology for having to bail out on this at the last minute. No one is more disappointed than I am. We will be down there again sooner or later so we'll have to work something out to get together then. Perhaps the Justin(s) and others will be able to work it into their schedule then.
Sorry.....

Nov 10, 2004, 07:42 PM
well, we already have Sally and Michael ready for this, so we should continue with plans. haven't had anything around here for quite a while.
Sally and Michael, are you still up for it? Richardson sound ok? The Texas Land & Cattle looks like it's just north of Spring Valley (I think I have that Rd. name correct).
Sorry to hear you can't make it, Paul. There will be other times.

If you do go to Texas Land and Cattle be sure to try the smoked sirloin and spicy caesar salad dressing. Have fun - we'll be thinking about you.
