:wavey:We'll be in Dimebox, Texas again this year - Saturday Dec 7. This is a small town celebration so if you're looking to relax, this is the place to come to.

Parade will be in the mid afternoon - just show up by 1:00 this year.

Dimebox is west of College Station (all Texans know where that is)

George & I will be in our green 57 - we'll be in town all day. :mouth_water:Chili cookoff tasting starts around 3 or 3:30 - tasting is free:nervous::bawl: - usually about 10 pots of chili to taste.
George has been an official chili tasting judge there for 5 years running.

Directions:

Directions to Dimebox: new Dimebox is about 3 miles south of 21 (old Dimebox is on 21 and there's hardly anything there but a gas station)

from College Station, head west on 21 thru Caldwell towards Bastrop. Left on 141 to new Dimebox (about 15 miles west of Caldwell)

from Austin, head east on 71 til you get to 21, then east on 21 thru Bastrop and towards Caldwell. the road to Dimebox will be past USHwy 77 several miles (sorry, I
don't have the exact mileage), right on 141 to new Dimebox.

from San Antonio, head north on interstate 35 to San Marcos, east on 21 past Bastrop, follow directions from there for the Austin route.

from Houston:
Pick up US 290 towards Giddings. You'll go thru Hempstead and Brenham. When you get to Burton, find road 1697 north bound, that'll get you in the back way to
Dimebox. When you reach 141 (at a T so you can't miss the turn), turn right and head towards Dimebox. cross the railroad tracks and find the bank.

and there were 14 pots of chilli around town.
Only found 10 of them - don't know where the others hid but George can testify to tasting 14:nuts::moreek:

this is one of the cooking grounds - with 2 pots going in the back. rumor was that one of the pots had used 'possum.:nervous:

I'm bring up this old thread because it's that time of year again for the Dimebox parade and chili cookoff.

Parade will be at 1:00 this year with the chili tasting starting around 4. I'll be posting the parade entry form sometime in the next couple of days.

George (0bird2) & I make it down there every year. Great relaxing time in a real laid back country atmosphere of a very small town. Not crowded. Car show (no awards) is set up before & after the parade. The Chili tasting is free if you can handle the spice and unique meats that are offered in some of the pots.

Please note that the date in the subject of this thread is Last Year's date. This year it's Saturday, Dec 6.

Moved this thread so more Texans might notice it.

Here's the link to the parade/chili cookoff entry form:

and here's another shot from last year's parade with a 36 Ford leading the way. the cars right behind it you should recognize.

I've heard from a couple of people that will be attending for this year. Hope the weather holds out for us.
