The Classic Thunderbird Club International now has a box to check on the envelope for dues, if you have a 2002 0r 2003 T Bird. This is the club that is limited to 55, 56, 57 Birds.
Interesting?

I joined the ITC and the MATC when I got my Bird and they do accept 02's but I think the Best one to be involved with is the Atlanta Group. If they aren't an official T-Bird Club they could very easily be one. I think I know a few people that would join.:lol::lol:

That may be so, in your case, but if you have a 55, 56, 57, the CTCI is the only way to go. I just thought it odd that for a club that does not have anything for any other Birds, to be asking about 02 & 03s

:sad:Dick, I misunderstood your post. I know at one point that they didn't except 02's, sounds like they will now.:pbj:

I don't know if they will or not. They have always been against accecpting any Birds but 55, 56 57. In the last "Early Bird" there was a big article about the fact that they are and always have been the official organization of those models. It is a great club and would be a fine "parent" club

I joined CTCI and the Tulsa Classic Thunderbird Club last year. They did not have a problem with the 2002 being a member, but there is no provision for the 2002 to be shown at a CTCI event.
Great bunch in Tulsa to be involved with and the only active Thunderbird Club in Oklahoma.

I could be mistaken but isnt that club 55,56,57 or what is also known as "little birds" and i believe that is the reason for the years but maybe since the 2002 and 2003 are two seaters that is why they are allowing them.

Just a thought:puzzled:

I suspect the reference on the dues is the fact that they want to know just how many current members have the new 'birds - not that they accept them for judging. It's more for keeping stats than anything else.

There is no indication in the near future that they'll be accepting the new 'birds for any CTCI competition or recognition as a model to support. Anyone may join CTCI whether or not they have a 55-57 Thunderbird and many of it's members feel strongly about keeping the club focus on the 55-57.

Dot and 03 bird make good points. I remember one Newsletter issue with an editorial on one page denouncing the consideration of the new bird (two seater or not) in the club, and on the adjacent page, and editorial bemoaning the loss in dues revenue due to members getting old and dieing. Dot is correct, for the classic Thunderbird, CTCI is the way to go for collecting, restoring.

There are members of CTCI who are adamantley opposed to the new birds for one reason or another. I have been a member for 18 years and have met some wonderful people but some of them, as Dot said, are afraid eventually we may have a catagory for the new birds and they will fight that. And it is a fact, they are worried about the declining membership, with older members dieing off. I'm old Steve, but don't think I'm ready to die yet, at least I hope not. I think Dot said there were 22 new birds at Parsippany last summer, so they are making an inroad. Those of us with both the classic and the new birds, sometimes have to be careful how we approach the "new bird" subject. We will continue to drive our classic birds to conventions within a 1500 mile radius, but further than that, it will be the new one. More pure comfort!!

 I guess I can understand them not taking Birds into their club that were built after 57 because they were four seaters. But to not allow the new Bird two seater, a remake of their Bird, into the club, well I just don't understand this.:puzzled: Sounds like sour grapes or something to me.

It should be noted that the VTCI accepts memberships for the new Birds. I understand the issue about judging. How are you supposed to judge one brand new 02 against another brand new 02. They both should be almost perfect. A Thunderbird is a Thunderbird is a Thunderbird. Whether it has four doors or two or is a two seater or a land yacht. They all bear the name Thunderbird and are related and are welcome in the VTCI. :fordsrule:

Thats true. The real challange is to take a 45 year old car and make that look new. After you make that look new, you don't want to take chances and drive it much, hence the purchase of a new one. Now you have the best of both worlds

ThunderBubba makes a good point. I think that point, (that all the new cars are perfectly the same) made Destin so great!! No nitpicking on retoration, workmanship, how original is original, what is overrestored etc. No competition, or one upmanship in Destin.

Steve, thank you. That is why we have so much fun and why our group is so different than the typical car clubs I have been a member of in the past.

We just have fun...and enjoy being around each other and our cars. That is why I like our group...and did not enjoy the Corvette and GTO clubs I have been in in the past.

I also don't like sitting around on a hot concrete parking lot in a lawn chair next to my car for hour anfter hour. Silly me, but I don't consider that fun.

Fun is caravans through the scenic countryside, picnics near the lake, in door drive-in theatres, top swaps, meeting at the Varsity to celebrate a special event, Elvis impersonators, touring one-of-a-kind car collections together, running on a NASCAR track together,a chatting on TBN, etc. etc. etc.

That was the entertainment Saturday night when we went on the North Georgia Road Rally. I never laughed so hard in my life at a bunch of grown women (and men) making such fuss over a fake Elvis.:puzzled:
