Ok I brand new to this and also a new T-Bird owner. Would there be any others in the DC or Northern VA area interest in trying to get a Bird chapter up and running. Any ideas, suggestions for those in the area or other chapters that may be reading this.

GrayGator72- Welcome to the flock! There are many TBNers in the mid-Atlantic area, we've done a few mini-events here locally in the past: Skyline Drive cruise, Hanover PA Cruise, Baltimore Lunch Cruise-in come to mind. We’ve been pretty successful at pulling together these events without having a local chapter, so I’m not sure any of us are motivated enough to lead the effort. Haven't heard of anything for 2005 yet, seems like everyone is gearing up for Thunder Fever in May.
I used to live in Annandale growing up- Guinea Road, went to Woodson HS, now settled out west of you in Clifton. Tell us about your Bird!

Check out the "Mid-Atlantic TBNers UNITE!" thread, we're putting together a cruise-in lunch gathering on April 2nd in the Baltimore MD area. Then just 4-1/2 weeks later, most of us in the mid-Atlantic will be participating in the BIGGEST TBN event yet to celebrate Thunderbird's 50th anniversary called Thunder Fever in the northeast corner of Tennessee. THAT'S what's going on!

So GrayGator72, this is how fast things can happen on TBN. Two days ago, you posted this thread asking about mid-Atlantic group. Just two days later, there's still no mid-Atlantic chapter on TBN, but we do have an April 2nd mini-event with eight cars and fourteen people coming! You joining us???

Unfortunately April 2 is a no go for us. We will be on the plane to Hawaii that day headed to a family reunion that has been the works for over a year. I'll take a look at the Mid Atlantic connection. Hope we can keep this going and I'm sure there will be plenty of other times. On the TN event thats a maybe for us after the 2 weeks in paradise and just before or daughter grad from VCU it is a push at this point.

AS far as ThunderFever in May..you'll be glad you pushed to come.
Check out the events gallery.
If you're looking for a get-together, you will not be able to control your pounding heart as you see a line of Tbird in front AND in back of you--as far as you can see.
Here's the link to ThunderValley, which is in the same location as ThunderFever will be.

Here's the one for ThunderIsle, which was last May.

FUNx3 has pics posted in the gallery from Skyline Drive cruise, etc.
Click on " Gallery" in toolbar at top of page. Then click on "events Gallery" which is the second one listed. Then, you have at your disposal 100's of pictures of TBN get-togethers. From all areas of the country.
There's a common denominator in ALL the pictures. I don't mean the cars. Look closely.

There is also an event on June 3-5 called the All Ford Nationals 2005. It is held in Carlisle, PA. While the actual event is just one of the of the many car shows/flea markets held by Carlisle Productions, we TBN members park together in the Fairgrounds and have several extra-curricular events of our own. Go to www.carsatcarlisle.com to see what the main event is all about. You can go to the TBN thread "All Ford Nationals 2005" to see what we are planning. Email me if you have questions.

just click on the "forums" link near the top of this page. Then scroll down that page to the "Upcoming & Past Events" forum. click that link and you'll see the last 10 days worth of activity on that forum and the special Thunder Fever forum.
To see even more, scroll down to the bottom that forum and click on the little down arrow next to " last 10 days" and highlight how long you want the search to go back - up to the beginning of the TBN. You'll see all the events we've had and the current ones being talked about.

Folks,
I have been working with people at FoMoCo to get "offical" recognition for our local group: Capital Area Retro Thunderbird Owners Club (CART-OC). I need to contact someone from the Mustang group who is knowledgable in forming clubs to get further information.
I have attached a logo I have created to represent CART-OC. Let me know what you think.

In addition to the TBN group, the Mid-Atlantic Thunderbird Club (MATC), a chapter of the International Thunderbird Club (ITC), represents MD/VA/DC/So PA/WVA. Lots of activities throughout the year. Open to all year Thunderbirds, so not as much focus exclusively on our newer cars. Check ITC website, or PM me for more info.

I went to Carlisle this weekend. Not many retro's there. Maybe a dozen tops. I didn't exhibit but perhaps I should have. Some were nice and there was only one yellow '02 there with an all black interior. (Mine is a yellow '02 with a "hybrid" 2/3 yellow interior). Long story about how this happened, but yellow door panels were installed on a "partial" yellow interior. I think it looks great and it certainly is unique.
There is a very informal Sunday get together of "classic" cars in the parking lot next to the Silver Diner on Franconia Road near Springfield Mall. It usually starts at 1800 and I've "crashed" it a couple of times and they don't seem to mind. I was the only retro bird there but perhaps others would like to join me. Could be fun.
Too bad "Springfield Days" doesn't have a car show anymore. We could have exhibited there.
If there are any other places where the retro birders get together in the FFX County area, I'd like to know about it.

Hi James, I'm right next to your neck of the woods over in Clifton, we've had several local gatherings over the years. I'll join you for the cruise-in at the Diner, just PM me when you are planning to go and I'll see if I/we can make it that Sunday, sounds like fun. Don't know if it still does, but the Silver Diner menu featured a retro red T-Bird at one time.

I have not been this year to the "ad hoc" car display so I'm really not sure if they started it yet. I will go to the Silver Diner this Saturday to ask if it still is a "go." They should know. I have matted and framed menu covers from breakfast lunch and dinner. They really look great.

Also noted a collectible on their party menu - they serve "box" lunches in a Silver Diner box - first picture below.
James, I have one of their older menus in my collection. and you're right, it's a much "cleaner" piece of artwork. I should have a file somewhere on my computer of it to post. Found it and added to this message - from 2004

Phil and James,
Let me know if you are planning to get together this weekend. If you are and don't mind another, Jeanette and I might be able to come on Saturday.
Sunday, we are hosting the Classic Thunderbird of Virginia monthly meeting at our place. You are all welcome to come, last year we had five retro Thunderbirds as well as seven of the Classic Thunderbirds.
Let me know if you get together or if you can come down to our place on Sunday. We will start with the food at 1:00.

The "ad hoc" classic display is usually held on Sundays at 1800 although I do not know if they started yet. Since I live very close I was planning to ask the Manager of the Silver Diner (whose store is adjacent to the parking lot where the display is held) if they had one on previous Sunday's this Spring. He should know by simple observation (I hope!) If I can't get a definitive answer I'll show up anyway but I'd hate to have some folks drive all that way if nothing is happening. Although, if 20 retro birds show up, we can have a show of our own !!

Just found out this morning that the
ad hoc car show next to the Silver Diner on Franconia Road near Springfield Mall has been going on these last couple of weeks. I'll be there about 1800 tomorrow (Sunday - June 17) if other retros would like to join me for a hour or so!

Hi Libba, the furthest west we'll likely be in NC is Shelby/Hickory. We drove to Raleigh yesterday, and we drove around the Raleigh area today. Over the comng week we'll probably head south from here and circle around southern NC and northern SC, around to Shelby/Hickory, then back up home. We're scouting for where we'll settle in retirement, and the mountains and beach are not for us. So we're looking for something in between.

Re: Small/informal car exhibit - Springfield
I did indeed go the little "Silver Diner" show Sunday. (Wife's been out of town for 3 weeks on biz and two sons are grown and gone so what else to do on Father's Day !). I was the only retro there. There was a total of about 15 cars but it should pick up. As a bonus the manager of the Silver Diner handed out vouchers for a free meal and so my Father's Day dinner consisted of meatloaf instead of tuna (out of the can) and Cup-o-Noodles !!

The car show has moved to the parking lot next to the New Glory Days Grill in the new shopping center in Lorton by the Amtrak Auto Train Station. Look for the big clock tower. Glory Days is on the far end.
