Maybe because he is an Air Traffic Controller he drinks lots of Starbucks to keep awake and alert.

All of the coffee at the Millineum Center during Thunder Fever was exclusively Starbucks. Maybe that's the connection.

I've heard a few stories like this. For myself, I think I'd rather drink mud than Starbucks anything.

Why? Haven't you learned how to act pretentious and use 15 words to order a single over-priced cup of coffee?

The chairman and CEO of Starbuck's, Howard Schultz, wrote a book about "how Starbuck's built a company one cup at a time" entitled, Pour Your Heart Into It (Hyperion, 1997).
Fascinating reading about their innovative business philosophy, dedication to excellence, and high regard for employees and customers. Very enjoyable book.
I don't care for their regular coffee---tastes like "old" coffee to me, but I like some of their other offerings which I get at the store in our Barnes and Noble here.

The "Starbucks" Black came about because it combined two of my favorite things; Black TBird and Black Starbucks coffee. I thought "evening black" sounded too sophisticated, like a formal dinner with uncomfortable clothes. So, my Bird is the exclusive Seattle addition..."Starbucks Black", fun anytime, always hot, and never dull! And Bruce, yeah ATC and coffee go together, but work only has Boyds coffee. But an addict drinks whatever is available!

Didn't mean to offend with the Starbucks support, but have you noticed coffee is just about as expensive at all restaurants now?

Join me for a Seattle Cruise, maybe even a stop at a Starbucks! If we can find one around here!

well, say what you want about Starbucks (and the Carnegie Starbucks was quite smooth, I thought...even with no cream, which I love but can't have anymore..) ...they make the best latte on the market.....(ok, fat free)

DAve, didn't mean to start anything other than wonder where the connection was. I was from the Seattle area (Snohomish) but don't drink coffee but spouse does and so do both my kids who still live up there. Haven't heard the phrase, "I'll take mine black" since we've been here in TX. natural - I should have thought of it. :snail: Like the way you're using it.

skipife will catch up with u as will catbyrd. They may be ready for some short cruises. There are others. We'll be up there in July.

This is precisely why I don't frequent Starbucks other than to order my ground coffee I brew myself at home. I hand them a written order so I don't have to act pretentious and use umpteem words to demonstrate to everyone how Starbucks/Coffee literate I am [j/k]. Their coffee is good, but I for one refuse to derail my morning commute by detouring to Starbucks and queuing up every morning wasting my time buying overpriced coffee beverages when I can brew it myself at home.

I only ever drink it at the airport (not often..I hate to fly!) and when I get my hair done I run across the street and get a latte for my hairdresser and myself on my way in. She does a better cut/highlighting with a little caffeine...

We don't even have one in Gastonia. We couldn't be pretentious if we tried...too many rednecks here...they won't even put one in the county!!

oops! I lied...there's a kiosk at Belmont Abbey College in their dining hall...but who goes there? (pretentious students?!)

We have Starbucks coffee delivered to our company for everyone to have free no matter what their title. Also if your the first in you make coffee in your area no matter what your title. If you take the last cup then you make another pot no matter what your title. I should also add no matter if your female or male.

I occasionally deliver a Dunkin Donuts decaf coffee to the lovely woman who cuts my hair, but I add Kahlua and Frangelica along with topping it with whipped cream. Not sure how my hair looks, but now and then she and I go out afterwards.....

I'll work at Bruce's company, and I don't mind making the pot when empty! Any company that treats employees to free Starbucks must be OK! I don't go to high powered meetings with management ( well, maybe sometimes when I'm in trouble for something that happened in the control room ), but I enjoy a cup of Starbucks anytime. As for "pretentious" people frequenting Starbucks, I don't see it here. Seems everyone around here stops by, even if they don't drink the coffee. We left here in '92 for OKC, and no Starbucks there at the time, but great people made up for the lack of . Next to SLC, where the only Starbucks at that time was at the airport, so I'd drop my wife off and drive the circle around while she ran inside and bought coffee(pre 911). No coffee pots in the control room there, go figure! Finally escaped the "Zion Curtain" in 02 and made it back here never to leave again..Beautiful scenery, wife's happy, and a Starbucks on every corner!

kinda reminds me of a bit from Bill Maher whe he mentioned that a calorie and fat rich flippa-frappa-cappa-mocha-caca-chino is really a shake, and should not be confused with coffee. Honestly I can;t taste the difference between starbucks and greek diner coffee...

Now Colombian expresso... hmmmmm....

I swear, here in Hollywierd, its like the new cocaine. People running around all wired, with these huge cups of flippa-flappa-floppa...

Coffee should still be paid with pocket change... Starbucks did to coffee prices what CD's did to album prices.. jacked them up!!! Meanwhile Juan Valdez just sold his donkey to a dog food company to make ends meet!! Oh the tragedy...

We saw a life size statue (really, we did!) of Juan AND his donkey in someone's sideyard on our way back from Hickory NC last week. We're thinking it's the 21st Century's answer to the minority ''lawn jockey". (and equally poor taste)

It sure is sad how everything gets twisted in our suposedly PC world.:nono: :cop:
I grew up with Aunt Jemima pancakes and Sambo's pancake house resturants and no thoughts of them being racial. I would love to have a large women of any color make my food, it means she enjoys eating. You don't see many skinny cooks, if you don't like to eat you don't like to cook, just ask my skinny wife.
Would a white lawn jockey be acceptable????????:puzzled:

http://www.phillyburbs.com/undergroundrailroad/images/header.jpg

http://www.phillyburbs.com/undergroundrailroad/images/jocko1.jpg The black "lawn jockey". Today considered a sign of poor lawn decoration at best, and overt racism at worst, the lawn jockey was an important signal on the road to freedom on the Underground Railroad.

The name, and the manner of dress, has been corrupted over the years: the first statue of its type was commissioned and owned by George Washington.

The story goes that at the time of Washington's crossing of the Delaware, a 12 year old African American Joque Graves was at camp, a groomsman for Washington. He wanted to make the crossing with the army; however, Washington, aware of the danger, ordered him to stay on the Pennsylvania shore, and shine a light, so upon return the company would know where to come to retrieve their horses. After the surprise attack on the Trenton barracks, Washington returned to find Joque had frozen to death, guarding the horses, the lantern still ablaze and frozen in his hand.Moved by the boys devotion, Washington commissioned a statue, 'The Faithful Groomsman', to stand in honor of Graves at the General's estate at Mount Vernon.

It is ironic that this statue, commissioned and made popular by slave owning Washington, would eventually become a beacon for freedom for runaway slaves.

With spies and bounty hunters everywhere, even safe houses were not always safe. It became necessary to be able to convey, in a low-key fashion, what condition any Underground Railroad stop was in at any given time. The answer was the 'lawn jockey', painted to wear a red cap.

If a safe house was 'safe', and prepared to accept visitors, a lantern or an American flag would be placed in the forward reaching hand. If the house was under scrutiny or compromised, the lantern or flag would be removed, signaling the travelers to move to another house down the line. Further south, along the Mississippi, green and red ribbons tied to the statues arm - whether clandestinely or with the owner's knowledge - attested to the status of the owners of the house: red ribbons alerting danger, green ribbon announcing safety.

I admit that I'm a Starbucks addict, but I just order one cup of their regular drip coffee a day. If I make a whole pot of coffee for just myself, I end up drinking a whole pot, which is not a good thing. :nervous:

It's really a self-control thing with me! I also notice that if I have any other brand of coffee in the morning that it just doesn't wake me up.

I get the Kirkland (Costco brand) "House Blend" beans roasted by Starbucks for Costco. I discovered it at Cucina Cucina's here in Tacoma but they have stopped serving it since they have been bought by a Canadian firm.
This is a very good coffee to drink at home, I usually take some with me when we go on road trips also, the beans and grinder do not take up much space and most motels have coffee makers in the rooms now, if not I also have a small espresso machine.
(hmmnn, I have always wondered why it is called a machine when all it does is make hot water)
