A legendary driver, and, arguably, the most beautiful Indy car ever made. RIP

        Spa-Francorchamps 1967 - Dan Gurney places 1st in his V12 Eagle - Captain America

And his only Trans-Am victory, Green Valley TX also 1967. Edged Parnelli Jones in identical Bud Moore prepared Mercury Cougars in the closest Trans-Am finish in history. I was there that day as a spectator.

ETA: Dan Gurney will forever be known as the driver of car number 48, a number he selected because of his friend pro-football player Les Richter. Don't know why Dan ran #36 on his formula 1 car. Likely FIA politics. (48 was also the number Steve McQueen ran on his Porsche 908 at Sebring racing under the pseudonym "Harvey Mushman" - not aware of any connection)

        Dan died on my birthday.

We're lighter. We're faster. If that don't work, we're nastier.
        We're gonna make history.
