  • Exploding Spare Tire

I am curious as to how many have had their spare tire explode. I saw one guy post on this site but wonder if he is the only one.

It has been reported many times. Truth is if you have the original spare in your trunk and you had to use it, you would be putting your own life in danger. It's age is well beyond any manufacturers recommendations. To quote a somewhat familiar phrase."UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED"

Reduce the pressure and don't worry about it. Perhaps throw in a small compressor to air it up if you need it in an emergency. Personally I haven't used a spare in many a moon. Many new cars only come with a generic inflator kit. Buy one of those and throw the spare away.

Change out my 02 spare a few years ago before it exploded. I keep the new one at 50lbs.

Sounds like a blast. I put a real wheel and tire in the trunk.
