  • horn intermittent

I have searched the forums and havent seen anyone experiencing my problem in my 02 bird. Horn is intermittent. Sometimes works ok, sometimes wont work until horn is depressed several times, sometimes wont work at all. Position of steering wheel doesnt seem to affect the problem. Changed the both relays listed in owners manual ( #4 and #8 ), still no change. Also, airbag lite is on. Could this be a related problem? Anyone out there with my answer?

Yes, those are the same symptoms I had with a bad clockspring. All the info needed to do your own repair is in the thread John linked to. I think some folks have reported dealership charges as high as $400-500 to replace it. The part itself was about $110 at a Lincoln dealership last summer.

I'm probably suggesting the obvious, but maybe hanging some ganja air freshener in the cabin or putting some Pink Floyd in the cd player would mellow her out........

Just a follow up on the intermittent horn problem. The clockspring was, indeed, the problem. It also was causing the airbag lite to remain on and the steering wheel radio control to act up. Everything is now back to normal. Detailed instructions on this website are helpful for clockspring replacement.

Do any other cars need new clocksprings in their lifetimes? I never heard of this repair except on this forum.. Yes, I have replaced my clockspring. 2002 at 43,000 miles.

I had to have the clockspring repalced on one of my cars that I owned. Don't remember which Ford it was.

I had to replace the clockspring in early January, 2010. Apparently this is a common problem on 2002-2005 TBirds according to my Ford dealer. The 'Bird was back at the dealer the next month for a $900.00 coil repair. Again according to the Ford dealer, the Lincoln LS and TBird have poorly designed coils and the parts are $92.00 each! The new parts are suppose to fix the problem from the original defective parts. That visit cost $900.00 at 65,000 miles. I still LOVE the car but it's been pricey to maintain over the last month and 1/2. Up until now, my TBird has been perfect.

Bruce, I think you're referring to the coil on plugs (or cops as we refer to them here) problems these 'birds experience. dealership mark-up on the price you paid for the coils. Valves shouldn't have been involved unless they had to replace the gaskets, too, because of oil leakage inside the spark plug holes.

Dot, It was the coils that needed replacing. Lately the A/C has been blowing hot air out of one side and I see that that may be an inexpensive fix or a $600.00 one:)

Not sure on the costs for that AC fix as ours was done under warranty several years ago.
