  • ThunderBirds Return ???????????

Got this from Aron today. Sounds like something may be in the works.

PS Our friend and fellow Tbirder, Glen Lewis, contacted Ford this year and asked them about the possiblility of the
Thunderbird making it back into production, at some point in the near future. This is what they had to say:

    Dear Glen,

Thank you for contacting Ford Motor Company. We appreciate the time you have taken to write us.

The Thunderbird is a timeless classic, an important part of Ford Motor Company’s heritage, and this
country's automotive history. At this time, we do not have an estimated date for when the new Thunderbird
    will be available at dealerships.

The Ford Thunderbird will make its return as a concept car. The new concept car is an indication of where
we’re headed with the Thunderbird when it goes back into production for the new millennium. It's also just
one example of the exciting and dynamic new cars we plan to introduce in the future.

Thank you for contacting Ford Motor Company.

    Sincerely,
    Norma

The strange thing about this letter is the part "when it goes back into production for the new millennium." Taking this literally, I expect there to be a good chance there will be a 3001 model??

Mark, I don't read it that way. I'm thinking 4/5 years down the road but it's hard to say at this point.

Spence, that would be fabulous - I sincerely hope the Thunderbird returns.

I agree with Mark...it almost sounds like a canned letter from Ford's file when they were about to release the Bird we have.

Jim, Could be but you never know what Ford has up it's sleeve. I can't believe they would let the name die. It may not be what some here want to see but it will be what the public likes and what will sell.

I hope it means more Birds in our future (in whatever form they come in), but if Ford was really serious about it, I would hope they'd have someone pen a better letter than that.

Reads like a reworked form letter written in 1999.

I have driven new Birds since 1994. I have always felt Ford would not let this nameplate die. All we can do is hope for something in the coming years.

I am certainly no economist, but everything seems to go in cycles, and I really believe that an upswing in the "niche" market for autos will come back which would mean automakers are already planning for that. So I will remain an optimist that a 2 door retractable roof Tbird is somewhere in the plans.....

I saw concept pictures of it recently (January '12 I believe), but cannot locate them now.
