That one is in pretty bad shape. It is a NM or 007 wheel.

          It's a painted 21 spoke Deluxe wheel.

How many of these cars do you have?

If anyone is wanting a full size spare for their NM or 007:

More on spare tires. Food for thought.
Trucks do not have donuts that can only go 50mph. My Dodge 1500 has 20 inch tires and a 17 inch spare tire. The diameter (height from bottom of tire to top) is about the same.
So, having a smaller spare like the 205/55R17 might be OK and, a 16 inch wheel would also work if bolt pattern etc. matched up. The load carrying capacity needs to be equal also.

And more important than having the wheel diameter match what ever size you happen to be running is the OFFSET. I realize it's just the spare, but you will have to drive on it & you want the centerline of the tire as close to design (60mm) as possible. the further you deviate from the stock offset - the more squirrely it's going to be to drive.

I propose getting an original 2002-5 wheel. No offset issues just narrower width.

                  Update: News Flash
Only one manufacturer makes the 205/55R17 which is, Continental, for $275, installed by Firestone.
Next, I will try to test the 215/55R17 for trunk clearance. The 215 would have been the closest diameter match (from the road to top of thread).

Bridgestone makes this one. It is a run flat tire. It has 91V rating like the 2002 original Michelins.

RunFlat and V rating makes it cost $203.00.

There is also a Michelin Pilot tire available for about the same price.
                      I haven't given up yet.

Looks like everything that size (at least at tirerack) is a run flat.

Had a tire fail yesterday and had to pull off the road...wondering if the Maxxis donut was going to work (never been on car). Yep, performed like a champ - still on the car as Susie is taking it to Discount today to get all 4 new tires. Wonder why some fail and some don't (and yes, my fingers are still crossed).

Look for the date on the spare tire. Age is as important or more so, than looks. Another indication, if you catch it early enough as Bill Green did, is if there is a bulge in the tire. Any date over 7 years of age would be suspect.

More info comparing the 235 OEM tire.

The Maxis 185/60R17 tire has a diameter size which is -1.9% of OEM tire. Thus maybe the 50Mph limitation.
A smaller tire on the rear will do all the hard work.

The 205/55R17 tire has a diameter size which is -1.4% of OEM tire.
The 215/55R17 tire has a diameter size which is only .2% greater than OEM (much better fit than the original Maxxis spare).

The 215/55R17 tire is the one I am going to go with. The goal here is the get a tire that will allow the tire cover to close and to let you drive home (from the middle of Utah on I70) at normal speed to get the bad tire fixed.
The 215 tire should be .8 inch shallower than the 235.

So, if someone who has a 235 OEM spare can tell me how much the 235 tire sticks out I would really appreciate the info. I can then determine for sure if the 215 is the ideal solution.
