  • Re: German Thunderbirds

I am glad you are back with one of your cars. Sorry to hear that it was so painful. I wish you good luck for your MSG. At least you could enjoy the sun driving open air today. Weiterhin gute Fahrt Mainhard, danke fuer die tollen Fotos!

I really enjoy your photos, Mainhard. Was through Cologne once on a river cruise ... what a lovely city and area for driving a bird! John A

Today my MSG has received new exhaust pipes and catalytic converters.

This hopefully will solve the exhaust emission problem.
Otherwise the car goes back to the seller (1,5 years after I bought it).....

Was the car checked and OK for emissions when you purchased it?

Emission was not ok when I bought the car
and the seller had promised to fix it.
I assume he thought that just replacing the lambda sensors would solve the problem but it didn't.
So now at the end he had to buy me a new exhaust system.

Weren't the OEM pipes made of stainless steel? Those pipes appear well corroded. I haven't heard of anyone else with rusted pipes.

                          Don't know.

The problem was the left catalytic converter which was completely destroyed inside.

Ford T-Bird OEM exhaust pipes are not stainless steel.

I checked our 2002 pipes with a magnet before I got rid of them (after installing Borlas). The magnet stuck to them. If it was Stainless steel, a magnet would not stick to them.
