  • When buying.... what to look out for

    Hi everyone, I have been saving and waiting to buy a retro TBird for a long time and now I'm ready.

    I want to do this right, so I thought this group would be a great place to start.

    As I look at these used cars... what should I look for to know that I should walk away?

    Welcome to TBN, do you already have a silver 2005 or is that what you are looking for?

      No mater about the year, just look for the color you like along with the mileage your looking for and go for it.

      Others will give you lots of opinions but it really comes down to what I suggested.

          Like any other car, it doesn't mean any of these things will happen, just something to be aware of. Take your dream car into a Ford dealer, or trusted mechanic and have them inspect it. Good luck.

            Good choice on picking a T-Bird!!! It's going to come down to what your "style" is and...do you want to do work on it or get a "turn key" car.....and of course, how much do you want to spend. You can find diamonds in the rough from $3,000 to show quality at $30,000. Now, I fell in love with a 62, just bought it with would "wing it" when it came to restoring it....did I bite off more than I can chew?....maybe just a little, but it was the style I wanted. One of the most common things I've seen on the "bullet birds" 61, 62 and 63, is the floor pans rusted out, try to get under it and take a look. That and the trunk....the quarter panel's above the wheel tend to get pretty crusty. Finding parts for these birds is fairly easy. Keep in mind, if you have to change out the oil pan, the engine must be lifted because of the cross member underneath.....I found this out the hard way. Lastly....with any T Bird, In my opinion from 1955 to 1963, are fairly easy to work on.....no computers, no complex parts......again, just my opinion. For someone who isn't as mechanically inclined as me, I've been able to get things done with help from folks on this forum and youtube......Good luck and post pics when you get that T Bird!!!
