  • Optimal Road Trips Across Every State

I found this article pretty interesting.

    http://www.businessinsider.com/these...-the-us-2015-3

One of the trips includes a map to efficiently visit a major attraction in each state on a continuous road trip through the lower 48 states. I've listed the selected attractions below and have bolded the ones that several of us have been able to visit as part of TBN events/trips over the past 12 years.

    Grand Canyon, AZ
    Bryce Canyon National Park, UT

David, I know you've been to the USS Constitution - we were there together as part of the Boston tour during Thunder East By NorthEast.

The USS Alabama was the first place on this list some of us visited as part of a TBN trip. We met in the parking lot there during our caravan to Thunderbird DESTINation in the fall of 2002 and toured the ship before heading on to Destin.

      Meeting there that day were:

      Gary & B.J (02TBIRD)
      Dot & George (5bird7 & 0bird2)
      Bill G. (15AGAIN)
      Sally W. (RedBirdSal)
      Mark & Laurie (Mark501)
      Charlie & Margaret (Sixpac & Ms.Mitchell)
      Paul & Rosetta (2K2BIRD & Ms2K2BIRD)

I did not see Zion National Park in this post (Utah). My favorite park. I actually got Kay to climb up to Weeping Rock the last 2 times we were there.

I have to question the author's selection of some of the "major" attractions. I've never heard of many, particularly ones in my state and nearby surrounding states. I'm sure in many cases there are other better ones without adding too many (if any) additional miles.

Re: Optimal Road Trips Across Every State

I have to agree that Zion is one of the most beautiful parks in the system. I've been there several times and could go several more. The last time we were there was in the T-bird when we were caravaning to Desert Thunder II in 2008.

Utah has so many great parks it really is hard to decide which one is the very best. We were fortunate to visit several of them during the West By Southwest tour a couple of years ago.

I certainly agree the selection of attractions is "interesting" to say the least. I had never heard of the location he chose for Oklahoma called that particular name, but after researching it, I am familiar with the area.

Well, we've visited all the bolded sites, and then add: Mt. Vernon, The Breakers, The Fox Theater, Taliesin and rode cable cars in San Fran. Visited Wichita, Phoenix, San Francisco, Milwaukee, Chicago, Philadelphia, DC for cherry blossoms and national Christmas tree lighting, Baltimore and Orlando. Still so much to see. What a great country!!

I don't think this is off topic, last night I watched an episode of "Globe Trekker" with Justine Shapiro. She started the show off in a Black 2002-04 Thunderbird with the Red accent interior. Then I didn't see it again until late in the show, only various Mustangs, then lo and behold the Tbird again. I don't know about the rest of you but I really enjoy seeing our Retros on TV. This show was about traveling west on what remains of old US Route 66, as I was especially interested since I did something similar in 2009.

In my original post I only highlighted the places we had been with connection to TBN events/trips.

On a personal level we can add all the other cities on the list except New Haven, CT. Our travels in CT just haven't taken us through there.

As for the attractions we've also been to the following:

                      Carlsbad Caverns National Park, NM

The next time someone goes through Springfield, IL take time to visit the Abraham Lincoln Museum/Library. Although Lincoln's home and tomb are interesting and historical, the museum is incredible and well worth visiting. I highly recommend it.

I always go through Capitol Reef NP on my way to Zion NP. I was very disappointed that they closed off Fremont Falls. probably because some idiot got too close and fell in. I did go over the barrier to lake a quick look. Park Rangers kept driving by.
