Engine miss firing and stalling
We bought an 02 last summer with 12,000 miles. Stored this winter. Came out of storage and needed valve cover gaskets replaced. Soon after the carr began to miss fire and stall. However this is intermitent but continues to happen. Loosen the gas cap and replace and still it occurs shourtly after. Diagnostic says fuel pump electrical issue. i am having a hard time believing this and have not had the repair made as yet. Any experience similar. I don't think there is water on the coils as the car has essentially never seen rain. help with comments will be appreciated

Re: Engine miss firing and stalling
I have a 2002 and this has happened twice. 1st time ford garage couldn't find problem and problem seemed to resolve itself (garage said maybe a short somewhere in electrical system). Happened 2nd time. Car running ok. stopped for 15 min with engine off. tried to restart and sputtered to stall. couldn't restart. when tried to restart engine would turn over but couldn't hear fuel pump. fuel pump fuse was ok. still in ford garage, won't start and they can't find the problem.
please, please any help on this? did anyone ever find the cause? I know there seem to be a couple of threads on this. I just joined form this week. Thanks, John |

Re: Engine miss firing and stalling
How old is the battery? Sounds like a silly question, but it has been proven here on TBN, a old battery will read a good but it just doesn't have the power it needs to provide start & run voltage.
If a jump start still won't get it started I suggest checking the fuses in the junction box in the engine compartment, passenger side. There are a few in there that are part of the "run" circuit if they are blown car won't start.
