Re: German Thunderbirds

Today my MSG has received new exhaust pipes and catalytic converters.

This hopefully will solve the exhaust emission problem.
Otherwise the car goes back to the seller (1,5 years after I bought it).....

Was the car checked and OK for emissions when you purchased it?

Re: German Thunderbirds

Emission was not ok when I bought the car
and the seller had promised to fix it.
I assume he thought that just replacing the lambda sensors would solve the problem but it didn't.
So now at the end he had to buy me a new exhaust system.

Re: German Thunderbirds

Weren't the OEM pipes made of stainless steel? Those pipes appear well corroded. I haven't heard of anyone else with rusted pipes.

Re: German Thunderbirds

Don't know.

The problem was the left catalytic converter which was completely destroyed inside.

Re: German Thunderbirds

Ford T-Bird OEM exhaust pipes are not stainless steel.

I checked our 2002 pipes with a magnet before I got rid of them (after installing Borlas). The magnet stuck to them. If it was Stainless steel, a magnet would not stick to them.

Re: German Thunderbirds

Of course I don't know if the car was just staged for those photos but if we park like that almost anywhere in America - taking up two parking spaces - it is an invitation to vandalize the car.

Not all grades of stainless steel are non-magnetic. I believe the 2002 pipes are stainless steel but probably a lower grade, (but not as low a grade as RED retro thunderbirds would have).
