number 1?

Out of all the cars that you've ever owned, is the retro Bird THE #1?

If not, where does it fit, and what is #1?

I'll go first.

#1-1965 Corvette Stingray, Nassau blue, two tops, 327/300 hp, 4 sp
#2-1964 Galaxie 500 XL (clone) convertible
#3-2003 retro

Re: number 1?

It wasn't in a car, but we had twin 350 hp motors with Holly cards to push a 63 foot houseboat. We could pull skiers when we wanted to go fast. That was # 1.

# 2 - Got to be the '02, '03' and '04 Ford Thunderbirds.

P.S. Don't tell me I'm off topic, cause we have a member who says nothing stays on topic.

Re: number 1?

#1 - 2002 Thunderbird because of the friends that it has brought us (plus it's the best looking car of all I've owned)

#2 - 1993 Taurus SHO because of the friends that it has brought us (plus it's been so much fun to drive)

#3 - 1968 Olds Cutlass Convertible because its transplanted 455 cubic inch engine was a torque monster and wickedly fast

Interesting that 4 of us list an Olds Cutlass or 442 convertible among our all time favorites.

#1 - 2004 Thunderbird, just for the way it makes me feel and the friends I've meet

#2 - 1996 Explorer, for long reliability and overall performance & I still have it as the bad weather driver & still like the way it looks

#3 - 1981 Firebird, had a blast with that car

#4 - 1974 Cougar, first car I bought on my own. Thought is was the coolest thing at the time. Came with jacked up Air shocks, 8 track tape player, and a power booster. Then installed a moon roof. That car was something.

Whoops - now a 1074 Cougar would really have been something :-)

Yes but the 1074 wasn't nearly as flashy as the 1066...

1. 2002 Ford Thunderbird (Triple Black) w/ 3.9L V8
2. 1969 Ford Torino 2dr Hardtop (Aquamarine) w/ 351ci V8 & 4-bbl carburetor (had it 19 years)
3. 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 2dr Hardtop (Red & White) w/ 312ci T-Bird V8 & 4-bbl carburetor

Wish I had never sold the Torino. Got rid of it for the wrong reasons.

Blew a piston in the Fairlane, running cheap regular gas in a high-power V8 with 10.5:1 compression ratio. That's what happens when a cheap college kid owns a great car! I wish I never had to get rid of it! Would love to have this one back.

Re: number 1?

This is a tough one. I have never owned too many cars, even though I'm 44 yo. Growing up, I was way too poor to own most anything but beater cars. They were all crap. I will say this:

1) Thunderbird: Because it is the first "Me" car I ever bought that I didn't need. It's convertible, loaded with features, tight to drive, and so far reliable.
2) Geo Tracker: Don't poo poo this little vehicle... this thing rocked!!! It had a rag top that was fully removable. It was peppy - could hold 4 people easily, very reliable, gas efficient, and I took this thing in places that ATV's shook their head at. My biggest problem was that it was not 4x4 and 5 snowflakes could spin this thing out. It was also my first work vehicle outside of college.
3) 1976 Trans Am: 454ci, stick shift, suicide clutch. It was actually my dad's, but he let me drive it anytime I wanted too. It was great fun to drive, but the gas tank had a perpetual whirlpool in it.. i.e., it sucked the gas! You put $20 in the tank, and it was gone in like an hour.

Re: number 1?

2004 Merlot Thunderbird - loved it at first sight and it was if I spoke the car into being. It's a good story, I'll tell at another time,
#2 - 1979 Monte Carlo - Burgundy - tan interior, gold striping - the first car I bought on my own. (Not that I was ungrateful to be part owner in the Ford Granda. My parents bought a new car, I paid half the payment and was able to drive it to school, work, church, etc. Wish I could remember how we ended up at the Chevrolet dealer. The only cars I remember us ever owning were Fords.)
#3 - 1988 Iroc-Z Official color - Dark Red Metallic with light brown leather option interior with removeable roof panels, sport coupe which included skirting and rear spoiler. Had the striping option in gold above the gold skirting. That car would fly.

Hmmm, there seems to be a color trend in my favorites group. For the record there have been other colors in the mix through the years, black, blue, red, white, silver, tan, green (not by choice-but the deal was too good to walk away from), but I always come back to my favorite.
