    Re: Hurricanes and Thunderbirds

I would leave both birds in the garage. Where we live is high enough not to worry about water damage so we would just hope the force of the wind would not be great enough to knock down buildings.
In my lifetime we have not had to evacuate this area for any hurricane even though we are right on the Atlantic.

        Joe,
Every area has its good and bad weather points.
Want to talk about winter (snow, sleet and ice) and lets not forgetr with high gas prices will come high home heating costs. Its predicted that last year if you paid $200 / month for heating it will be $600.00 per month this winter.

          Bruce,

What happened in your area during the Great Hurricane of '38? (Not that you were actually there at that time)

My heat should be $1500/month if the prices go up that much.

In 1938 the area was devastated, but still nothing like what has happened in Florida and the Gulf Coast States.
Wes, I hope we will all be spared that kind of heating expense but I fear that a lot of folks up here are in for some hard times this winter.

Move down here with us, Bruce ... You can drive your Bird in January with the top down on certain days!

The reason I bought the 95 was I was caught in a traffic jam to get home over 2" of snow last January. It took 4 hours to get home in what is normally a 10 minute 5 mile drive. The city was in gridlock .... LOL.

We live down sea level. I can swim, but Bird can't. So I will drive to higher grounds, after I brought wife and kids to safety. After all it's only a car

If the Bird were at the island house, we'd pack it & go, but the Bird's never been to the island house & never will be(We'd be packing the Expedition & going). The island house has survived Andrew, Georges, Rita and a bunch of others I can't remember. Norfolk has never had to evacuate...but if we were told to, I'd still leave the Bird in the garage w/ husband's Q45 & pack up the Expedition & go...down to the island! And for now the '55 can stay in storage in Chas'ton for all I care (I really need to sell that thing).

In Nebraska, we are spared the possibility of hurricanes. Now tornados are a different story. But at least their devastation is fairly limited in scope. We also don't have to worry about evacuating. There isn't enough time with a tornado. Just time enough to get your hind end in the basement and hope for the best, including your garage.

Wish we had a hurricane here in Virginia. At least the rain. Dryest September on record here. About 6 weeks now without any rain.

I am sure that if we had an evacuation situation here (and we believe the weather forecasters now, after Hugo!) we could take both Birds..Jerry with the dogs in his and me with Carrie and photo albums.
Jerry won't let anyone park outside the garage now, just in case the house catches fire and he has to get the Birds out....

Both of our birds would remain in the garage if we had to leave. We used to live in a location that was prone to flooding with heavy rain. Where we now live water doesn't run up hill so, they would stay at home...

Living is South Florida makes this poll food for thought. If we decided to evacuate:

                              1. It would be early in the game to beat the gridlock.
                              2. We would take both cars and load them up with irreplaceable personal items.
                              3. We would take as much cash and travelers checks as possible.
