Re: To Change Or Not To Change

Not for nothing Blackgoat but that probably would have increased the price by about $20,000 dollars. That would have taken it out of the price range for many of us. I do however agree with quite a few of your changes. I would love to see Ford try again, but this time get some input from the people who are going to drive it. Like I said, I can't imagine driving any other car. I am one of those that feel the bird and vette should have grown up together. The wrong people were in charge of the progression of the bird. Don't get me wrong I like the Mustang but I feel they should have gone the extra mile with the bird.

We love our Bird but after what we went through a few weeks ago in repair bills a much better COP design would have been nice.

Self dimming mirror. That's all I want and am going to put one in the Bird myself real soon.

With the exception of a few items, these features were on the LS and are on current Ford and LM vehicles with MSRPs in the 30s.

A little more storage space would have been nice so we could stay gone longer

I would add factory roll bars. Going inverted gives me the willys, but I still drive it daily to work.

Jim, interesting comment on the leather. I agree that 02 is softer, but I thought they switched to a more durable leather (ie thicker) due to problems with inferior leather in the 02. I was always very disappointed on how quickly my 02 interior looked VERY worn.

I am going to vote "Happy", cuz I have experienced 42,000 smiles because of my LadyBird, I have never enjoyed a car as much as this.
I guess if I was given a choice, I would have asked for a standard transmission and a retractable top.

Don't know about it being any more durable, but Nudo leather is still being used in some of the Lariats and Lincolns, etc. It's a very high quality leather. What kind of wear are you experiencing? (had my '02 for almost 3 years and put close to 32,000 on her...the leather still looked brand new, except for some wrinkling, and that's just leather!).

Ditto on that. I hate not being able to check the tranny's fluid level!

Wife's '01 BMW 330i doesn't have one; my SLK 32AMG didn't have one...most 100,000-mile-service tranny's don't. If fluid's added and it's too much, the tranny has a way of 'dumping' the extra fluid (all over your garage floor). Even with this, the dealer will still try to talk you in to changing the fluid every 30,000 miles, even though Ford says it's not necessary until 100,000.
