In honor of one of our favorite "Bridman's" retirement (Gobird) I thought it would be interesting to see what the deomgraphics are on our members retirement projections.

Re: Retirement Poll
I hope I'm never forced to retire.
I like what I do and I enjoy the people I work with.
Why would I want to stop doing what makes me happy.
My family works and my grandkids are in school,
so what would I do all day home alone?
I have the weekends and vacation time
to be together with the family.sigpic

Re: Retirement Poll
With me I retired 1/1/00 after 40yrs. as an Ironworker in N.Y.C. Went in to work one Dec. day it was about 17* with a strong wind.I was one yr past retirement age (57) and I had the time in yrs required.I went to my Union the next day and got the numbers after taxes and said "give me the papers".I know I wasn't going to be a millionaire so I figured I would enjoy life while I still could.I guess I'm not doing to bad I own a condo in S.Fl. have the Bird a new Caddy and I'm going on an other cruise this Friday for nine days.I owe all this to my hard work and to my Union Ironworkers Local 580 N.Y.C.

Re: Retirement Poll
Retired 6 years ago but I am too active in the businesss community to leave it all together. My company asked that I stay on two days a week and I love it. I am not handy around the house so two days there and yard work in the summer is what I enjoy. Then I started to get calls from other companies to do some consulting and it fits right in for times when I feel like doing more. I enjoy being around people and giving back from my experiences in the work place. I feel very fortunate that I am healthy enough to do this and hope it continues for a long time.

Re: Retirement Poll
Retired almost 8 years ago. Combination of "burn out", attractive separation package for "senior" employees and not wanting to deal with another wholesale change of management. My wife retired about the same time. No regrets..Please Note.. Any spelling and/or grammer mistakes are copyright of the author.. Mistakes will be numerous and common...

Re: Retirement Poll
I retired in 2002 at 67. I was in the Army for 27 years and then owned a mortgage brokerage for 18. Decided I had enough. Bought myself a retirement gift, a 2002 red Thunderbird, and have never looked back. My wife and I have traveled over much of the US and Canada in our motor home and recently visited Churchill, Manitoba, Canada to visit with the polar bears. Next trip is to Florida in January, Then Atlanta, Kentucky, Quebec, Twin Cities in Minnesota, New Mexico and who knows where else. I have no desire to work again.Bob Moss

Re: Retirement Poll
I plan on retiring from my full-time position as Clinic Director and Course Director for the three undergraduate Endodontic Clinic courses in May 2011. I've been a student or a faculty member of the University of Illinois for over 40 years now! Sue plans on totally retiring from her job then too.
I'm hoping the university will hire me back two days per week to teach as an instructor in the Pre-Patient Care Course or in the clinics. If not, I'll go back to the local community college and be a Supervising Dentist in their Dental Hygiene Program 2 days per week (or go part-time as an endodontic professor in a new dental school in the Chicago area which is planning on opening in 2011).
I know I'd go nuts TOTALLY retired but am looking forward to more time off with Sue and more time to attend TBN events.Last edited by MikeB; Nov 21, 2007, 08:10 AM.2002 Ford Thunderbird Premium Torch Red partial interior (sold June 2013)

Re: Retirement Poll
I retired with full benefits, pension and other perks in March of 2003 at the tender age of 53. I started planning and saving for my retirement in 1969 when I graduated from college. I tend to do everything at an early age!
Now I don't know how I had time to work, as I'm constantly busy, and I can barely remember what day it is.sigpic

Re: Retirement Poll
I have been in work situations most of my life where I was working full-time and doing exactly what I wanted to do. In a sense I was mostly retired. Very lucky. Currently I have a great position and really have no target for retirement..... but maybe around age 75 or later. My work place website: http://nimscenter.com/ I invite everyone to visit.

Re: Retirement Poll
I voted 5-10 years, but the plan is to semi-retire within the next 2-3 years, move to the Carolinas and work part-time for another 5-6 years to preserve the nest egg, then go whole hog retired. I'm hoping the company I work for will give me a part-time gig like some of the others here. The chances are good, as what I do is so specialized that no one else knows how to do it.PK- 2002 Premium Blue/Full Accent/Whisper White Top

Re: Retirement Poll
My retirement was un-expected. I left work one Friday in 2003 due to a heart attack and never went back. It has worked out really nice. Like others I don't know how I had time to work. LOL My job now is to exercise everyday! I highly recommend it if any one is sitting on the fence trying to decide.
