There are 17 covered bridges still remaining in West Virginia. There are 8 within about 75 miles of where I live -- most still carry vehicular traffic. I have been over a couple of them but never in the T-Bird.

Here is a link to all 17 within the state.

The 8 closest to me are: Barrackville, Carrollton, Center Point, Dents Run, Fish Creek, Fletcher, Philippi and Walkersville.

My question is, have you ever been on a covered bridge in your T-Bird?.

    Re: Covered Bridges

Went with the Chicagoland Thunderbirds this weekend and we had a group of vintage and retro Thunderbirds travel up to Cedarburg, Wisconsin. We saw the last covered bridge in Wisconsin while leaving Cedarburg but cars are not allowed on the bridge (wouldn't have taken Illini Bird over it even if we could have).

First picture is the covered bridge and the other is Sue and I in front of the small falls in the river.

We have alot in Indiana. There's even a Covered Brige Festival, I think in October in Brown County, Indiana. It's real nice down there at that time of year when all the leaves are in full color.

Sue and I attended the Covered Bridge Festival in Brown County a few years ago and it was spectacular! There weren't any covered bridges we could drive the car over, however.

          Re: Covered Bridges

Just check out my Avatar! This was one of the bridges of Madison County in central Iowa. I took the bird on a long weekend back through Iowa in the fall of 2004. It was great seeing places in my Homestate that I either had never visited before or hadn't seen for 20 years. The bridges were a first for me. The only thing that was bad was that a couple were on GRAVEL roads - glad I had the CA duster with me.

Out of curiosity, why wouldn't you want to take your car on a covered bridge?

On the way home from Heartland Thunder we found 5 of the 6 located in Madison County, Iowa. We were only able to drive the T-Bird through one of them. Here is a couple pictures.

Here in Rockdale County, Georgia we have a covered bridge built as a bicentennial project patterned after plans found from a bridge built somewhere in New England in the 1800's.

Here are some shots taken today of the Bronze bird and the bridge.

LOL! Do you think one would cave in on you or something? All the photos I've seen of bridges and Birds look awesome.

                            Roger,

That first bridge is the one behind my Tbird in my avatar. It is the Cedar Bridge in Madison County. This one is actually a reproduction as some moron set the original on fire and the city had it rebuilt. They have quite the annual celebration there each year with all of the bridges and also have the birthplace of John Wayne. The Sugars toured the area last year on the way back from Detroit.

WHAT A GREAT THREAD!! Thanks, David, for showing some of us from out west the wonders and beauty of the covered bridges! And you know, it didn't matter whether the bridge was democrat or republican, the Thunderbirds looked great in them!
