    Bob:

I don't recall this either, and I don't have a copy in my records. But I do remember hearing about it. And mine was an early car: Ordered on January 10, 2001, Built on Aug 7, 2001, delivered on September 28, 2001.

Bought the 02 Whisper White Premium in late 03 - it was stored in a garage with quilts draped over it and had 26 mi. on it. The owner had ordered it for his wife who had a red 55 during college, and wanted another red one - somehow the paperwork got messed up as it has the full red/charcoal interior - he was so mad that he wouldn't even drive it home from the dealership; his business partner drove it the 26 mi. and into the garage it went. He then got interested in a Hummer & stuck the ad in the paper - I saw it the first day as I had been checking the local dealers for my retirement present but had found no white ones - in serendipitous fashion we went to look at it & bought it on the spot - he took about a ten grand loss on it but was happy to be off to get his Hummer. His wife said "good" as now she could bring the quilts back into the house. After a year in VA we retired to NW OH and the Bird was trucked here & now has it's very own stall. Drove her to Church this am & barely beat the rain on the way home - she's never been in the rain before!! WLW

This message is from "dlschicken" (2002Yellow/Yellow Full Accent), I just wanted to say that I am intrigued by your recent post concerning the purchase of your 2002 Whisper White Bird. It seems that this car may have belonged to my brother, who traded it in towards the purchase of a new Mustang GT. The mileage (2900 mi) is the same, the car is the same, the timing is appropriate, and even though the car was traded to a dealership in Connecticut, the salesperson indicated that the car was to be sent south to a dealer there because of the better market for a convertible relative to the time of year. I would love to hear from you regarding your Bird. Would'nt it be ironic if the the car started life in Connecticut, was shipped south for a better sale, and the shipped back to New England. I can also assure you that while owned by my brother, the car I have in mind could not have been better cared for.

Bob, never signed one of those for our 02, but I did hear about them back at that time.

Looking at the graph there seems to be a lot less 2003 models. When the new buys and the used buys are added together it still is only about 17 per cent of the total. Were there less Birds produced in that year or just less sold?

    Gordon.
Neither. Once again.....2002 had the highest production/sales volume. 2003 had the second highest production/sales volume. It then declined each and every year.

    2002 Thunderbirds: 31,368
    2003 Thunderbirds: 14,678
    2004 Thunderbirds: 12,757
    2005 Thunderbirds: 9,295

The poll reflects nothing except how our active participants on TBN acquired their cars.

Like so many others here, we bought our 02 new in 2001; ordered January 15, received November 1, 2001.

Speaking for myself, and possibly some others who purchased their Tbirds used, I was still angry with the Ford dealers who wanted me to BID on an '02 when they were first introduced.

I felt that MSRP was enough to pay but the dealers were greedy and they turned off many potential buyers. I still wanted the car but I wanted a more even playing field, not a sellers market.

When in 2006 the car was discontinued and a dealer near Charleston bought 10 2005 Thunderbirds from Ford Motor Company, I saw my chance.
The car I selected had 10041 miles on it and cost me $29,495. less $4600. trade-in for my wife's 2000 Taurus SEL. She got my 2002 Avalon which I bought when Ford p***ed me off.

Maybe some others were driven away from Ford in 2002 for similar reasons. Just a guess.

John, I've sent you a private message or PM as we refer to it here. You'll find it in the upper right corner of this page if you don't get the pop=ups telling you have a PM.
