Lonestar: It's been my observation over the years that when the economy is in the tank these auto auctions seem to do well - It appears that people use their investment money for these type of purchases. Then when the economy turns around they return them to the auction houses to collect a profit. (There is a sales tax but No income tax on that money) At that time there's a wider range of buyers and therefore more money in the market - Thus higher prices, yet again.

As of today, the poll shows over 18% believe $100,000 to $200,000 will be the selling price. The $Million cars were the one of a kind GM dream cars like the F88 Oldsmobile. The Number 1 production Tbird is rare but there was a number 2 and so on for thousands of others, so I believe the TBN poll will be vindicated on Saturday.

After much more consider, and for the life of me I do not know why I have spent time thinking about this, I beleive you are correct Cal (and others) and my earlier guestimate is way off. It will be rolled off before the 200K mark is met unless it is one of the ones BJ wants to hawk and drive up the price - that will make this another story.

B-J is hawking this 'bird - it's their feature car on the program cover. Their auction in October in Las Vegas brought in over $300,000 for a 1948/49? MG-TC that Carroll Shelby had driven and won his first race in - he didn't even own the car, he had just borrowed it from a friend! That MG was the featured car on the program cover.

I saw Amos Minter at the auction this afternoon, but didn't speak to him. He was in front of 3 of his Tbirds that hadn't been sold, yet. As usual, they looked better than brand new.

Amos usually brings 3 to the auction but I do not know how many he brought this year.

                      The resto-rod '57 T-bird (#954.1) with a Mustang engine just sold for 60k.

For folks not watching BJ there were 3 baby birds, 1 a 57 E car, basically in a row go across the block and each went for over 100K. The E car (Mentor restored) went for 117k, while the others went for a bit more. Based on this & based on the fact that a 57 Chevy 210 sedan, Bluestreak 6 cyl, 3 on the tree, with poverty caps went for 150K simply because it was the second 57 Chevy made and the 1st 57 Chevy 2 dr sedan made, I think now # 1 Thunderbird will top 200K but will be surprised if it passes 300K.

I know this for sure. It's going to go for more than I can spend.

I think this black beauty with the red interior was one of the "bargains" of the evening. It should have brought more than that green '56 that preceded it, but I believe the final bid was the same on both. Go figure.

They just showed it. Said it's the Wildcard of the auction and they can't imagine how much it will go for.

I need someone - anyone - who will be watching this to call me on my cell when it sells. We will be at our Tidewater TBN dinner tonight, and will miss this part of the auction. PM me (asap) and I'll give you my number!!!
