    Re: Orginal Tires

I got a pice yesterday on-line for 4 Diamond Back 235/55/17 Red Lines, delivered UPS for $1,167.00, slightly less if delived to a business. Couldn't find a Red Line 17" tire from Coker. Does anyone know anybody else that has Red Lines? Leroy

Leroy, are you looking at the just a red line or the whitewall with the red line? Also, what brand tire was the Diamond Back?

Just replaced the original michelins with matching pilot michelins.......and the spare with a maxxim......did not want to chance it and also saw where the original firestone spares were exploding at recommended 60# ! Had a whopping 5800 miles. Many more to come.........

Remember Ford Dealer's sale with guaranteed lowest price and $120 rebate ends Nov. 30.

Feels funny getting ready to take wife's Saab to a Ford dealer for tires.

Just got back from Ford Dealer. Second set of Conti DWS since I put them on the T-Bird . Quieted the Saab down unbelievably. And for a second time they told me no alignment necessary as I was in spec. They gotta be settin' me up!

No alignment means your wife is staying off the curbs. Where'd you find a woman like that? :)

                    Re: Orginal Tires

According to the prior owners' maintenance records, tires were replaced at 60K. So they've got 28k on them, 6k of which is mine.

Edited to add...Michelin Pilots HX MXM4 235/50 R17. Quick Google shows me a replacement cost of $250 each.

STILL rollin' on originals at 36K... never even rotated... mind you I'm just puttin' around Town, no road trips... Tires might the best original part on a Retro-Bird ~!

I'm with you, Buck. Inspect the tires occasionally, keep both hands on the wheel, and get your money's worth out of them.

Old tires are fine as long as the car is still rolling forward and backwards, and not over!

Bought our 2002 with 8400 miles in 2012 and replaced the original tires with new Michelin MXM4 Pilots. Life is too short to take a chance on old tires. There is no need to be the person who expands the definition of "flipping the bird."

While we would have preferred to invest the money in travel & good food, our goal is to live to be 99 and write the last check to the undertaker and have it bounce.

By then, we won't care about how old the tires on the hearse are.

Buck.....around here you couldn't even get them rotated, balanced or a flat repair. Most all shops, including Discount Tire, have a sign indicating they will not do any type of service on a tire over ten years old.

I didn't have that issue at all with my 5K mile Reatta - I bought NOS wheels for it and had the original tires taken off the original wheels and put on the NOS ones not even a year ago - that was at a Goodyear store. (25 year old tires and they were well aware they were original tires)

As a side note - I also trailered the car to long distance shows, I did drive on the tires locally but low speed short distance. I would never have taken the tires out on the open road where they could heat up.

This thread is OLD and hardly relevant anymore. For those saying YES, that was 5 years ago!! Furthermore why take the risk running on old tires The owners age poll is even older..time doesn't stop for anyone!
