When should TOTM vote totals be viewable?

    When should TOTM vote totals be viewable?

    A couple of previous threads have discussed the TOTM rules at length and have invited further comment. I enjoy the website and the photos very much and appreciate the efforts of the owners/operators/administrators. I’ve looked at a lot of the previous TOTM contests in detail and it seems that often there is more voting when the contests are close. When it’s not so close then some folks either don’t vote, or use their vote to make a statement.

    Here’s a chance to say whether you think we might get more participation in the TOTM voting if the rules were tweaked a little.

      Dan, that idea was implemented for a year or two a few years ago but voting went down and it was harder to get photos entered. The method being used now (which is how we've originally had it) draws the most interest in the monthly contest because quite a few of members like to watch how the vote is progressing. Like watching a horse race.

        The way it is done now is what the members wanted and it will stay that way.

                It would appear that three fourths of the members now voting would like a slight change. That way the voter isn't influenced by others' votes, but makes the decision independently. We can still follow the action after we've voted.

                          You can see the voting totals of the TOTM contest before you vote. You just click on the link that says "view results" or something like that. After you vote, the totals show up every time you open the thread.

                              Just had a talk with Margaret. I though I was doing it the same way she was but it turns out I wasn't. It will be changed for next month and the results won't show until you vote.

                              It shows up different for me when I view it and I didn't think it showed up that way for everyone else but it does. Sorry for the confusion.
