  • Karyl:

I like that. Nice and simple. You are right about incorporating the porthole and the wings. That is what makes the Thunderbird unique. I think you are right on with color scheme. It will be interesting to see what some other members might do with this design. When all is said and done. I'm sure we will come up with a good one! Or at least have fun trying!

I just scrolled through the posts on this thread because I had missed some, and reread my post # 166. What a hateful post I made!
I'm really sorry if I hurt your feelings in any way with that. I didn't mean for it to sound so critical. You've worked very hard on this, and I do appreciate it.

      • No not a problem I'm thick skinned. I did not take it that way. I agree with you about a silver ring, that's what I was thinking too. I just did not put it together and relate it to the port hole, it just felt right to me. Good catch My #182 rendition is supposed to be polished silver not that dull grey color, but I have no way to do that with my software. I just acquired a front/nose bird emblem and was going to take a picture with it across the porthole and then play with a TBN logo, just haven't had time yet.

Although a cog wheel may be traditional I think it is too much going on against the style of grill we have. I thought white would be a neutral color back ground that would go with all color birds. Polished silver, turquoise and black are the 3 common colors to all of our Birds and should be heavily considered for this badge.

I have also contacted a company and just got back a number to discuss this. This company has designers that will help if we can decide on what we are looking for. I am going to ask some basic questions on cost and manufacturing and such but I am not making any commitments. Just want to get an idea on costs for this project and what quantities will help to that end. Any one else know of a manufacturer?

          • I really like the design in 191. What really makes it... is that the wings extend beyond the porthole...

I would like to see the middle of the porthole remain black and not clear. If it were clear it would blend into the grill. Also you would see background of the grill...

It has been fun working with this thread.

I like 191 so much that I'm finished designing...

            • My vote is for 191 too.

"I could envision that with a stud off the back of the Bird for attachment."

Why didn't I think of a "Stud Attachment" for the back of the Bird!! We could sell a bunch of those!!

                As to #191:

Great idea to fill in the center with black -- stabilizes the medallion from a design point of view and also, aethetically, will look much better!

                • Stud Attachment?

Boy, the forum is rife with innuendo today!

You better be careful when speaking of stud attachments sticking in your grill, ladies!

But Karyl, I really like your design that has the wings that extend out past the "porthole". Very unique and appealing!

I just hope it's a practical idea that can come to fruition.
It's hard to soar with T-Birds when you drive amongst turkeys!

My vote is for Karyl's design in post # 191. Very nicely done and will look good on any color 'Bird. I am for "keeping it simple" and I think this design does that. Good work Karyl (and Jerry)!

                    • The only problem I see about extending the wings out, is how strong will that be, I had that in the original design but reconsidered thinking it may break off easily. If the material is strong enough then that should not be a concern.

                      Just my two cents worth.........

                      • Hi Jeannie,
I like the design, but was also concerned about how fragile it would be. What went through my mind was drying the car, you sometimes forget about things protruding, like a medallion and catch the towel or sham on it and may break it. Or worst, damage the grill.
                        Just food for thought.

                        • Has anyone played around with this simple design? We could have the center spoke design match our 7 spoke wheel or go with the NM wheel. I think it's simple and elegant and would go with every color forever! Just some simpe design changes and boom we have our own badge. Bet I could sell these on ebay with just Thunderbird 2002 Car Of The Year around the badge Hummmm. I'll get back with you next week with maybe a badge for sell. OK OK just kidding but your killing me with the wait, I might just produce one or two for the fun of though just to pass the time.

                          • I looked at the front of the grill and there are 3 options from what I can make of it.

                            1. One center post with large deep threads to screw into the styrofoam behind the grill.

                            2. Two to four barbed posts to push into the foam. This would need to be used for the extended winged design. However it could be a problem to remove if the inner part of the foam is white.

                            3. A post or two with a nut to secure it on the back, and I don't mean TonyV. Here's the problem it has to be mounted high on the grill where there is no foam. Then it is held in by only the integrity of the grill. Which should not be a problem but I don't want to mount mine so high.

                            Bob,
I did see your post, I was hoping another member might have some previous dealings with a company.

Now that I am back in town I will be contacting a company tomorrow. It seems positive since I had a follow up e-mail from the company while I was gone on whether we were still interested.

I don't fore see a problem with the badge being too delicate. I think due to the design of the grill we are pretty easy going in this area. It is not like the rest of the body when cleaning and drying all those stupid little "honey combs."

                            KarylP,
I know you were going for an open look but I think because of the design of the grill a solid color should fill in behind the bird. I think you also agreed in a later post.

So it looks like we have a consensus. KarylP's open design, about 8" mounted to the front of the hood on a spring

                            • I received a PM that one of our members still liked one of the previous designs and brought it to my attention that TBN also stood for "Trinity Broadcasting Network" (TBN).

So.... I did a search and found that there are alot of organizations claiming the TBN initials. Just a few:

                              The Toronto Bicycling Network
                              TBN Manifesto
                              The Benchmarking Network
                              The Banner Network
                              The Bird Nest
                              Toronto Bisexual Network
Threatened Bird Network (We should belong to this one)
                              The Buckeye Naturalists
                              Turner Broadcasting Network
                              Tourism Business Networks
                              TBN Films
                              The Beast Network
                              #24 was TBN Forums

When someone sees TBN which do you think they will associate your car with?

I wouldn't mind the good folks at my baptist church thinking I was watching the Trinity Broadcast Network but I think I would be a little concerned if one mistook TBN to be the Toronto Bisexual Network...
