That sure is a nice looking medallion you have there Jerry P.!

I'd be more than happy with anything like it for ours.

But, has it been decided whether we're going to angle ours to the crest of our grills so that it can be centered, or is that too much trouble and a "pipe dream" at this point?

I guess we could always chuck it up in the jaws of a vise and modify it in that way later if we choose to, huh?

        • I may have misspoke on thread #267. I did not mean that JerryP should get this project started. What I meant was we need someone or a couple people to get this started. From what I understand there is some up front money needed to start with plus the time needed to do the shipping on all this after it does get off the ground. Anyone out there willing to help out?

                • This project is on our agenda for a moderator meeting prior to the lunch on Sunday at Pappasitos. Everybody just hold on to your passion for these medallions until Monday and we should have someone in place by then to pick up this ball and run with it. I am excited - it looks like another quality image for TBN....which is what we are all striving for.

                  • I thought I'd post the size of the badge JerryP posted to give everybody an idea. Refer to the posted picture, since I'm too lazy to take another with the ruler beside it.

                    Wings: 4.5 inches tip-to-tip
1 inch top of head to tip of tail feathers

                    Oval : 4 inches long x 3 inches wide

the wing tips overhang the edge of the oval by 1/4 inch or so.

This badge isn't meant to be placed in the center of the grill, but rather to one side. Owners that belong to more than one TBird club may have more than one.

                    Hope this is helpful.

                    • Medallion Poll...

                      Hi Brenda,
I'm excited too, but are we still going to have several medallions to choose from?

It was my understanding that the orriginal concept was to put forth a few designs for the membership to vote on. Is that still the case?

                      • I would not assume to speak for whomever is appointed to take on that project. If you have that interest, it is noted and will be passed along. Others might want to voice their opinion here as well this week.

                        Thanks.

                        • Sounds like THIS WEEK would be the time to post other design ideas.

                            • Speaking of designs, we need to be thinking about how to attach something to the grill. I experimented with the badge, which I posted a picture earlier, and it is still not installed. It is nearly impossible to work behind the grids. I would anticipate anything that must attach from behind would require removing the grill. I don't have a shop manual, but I would think that to remove the grill would require removing the front bumper skin. It doesn't look like an easy task.

I guess we could use a friction type push-on fastener from the rear, or possibly a wingnut. It is too tight back there for use of any type of a tool.

So, here's you a challenge. Let's figure this one out.

Oh, by the way. A badge does look nice on the car.

                              • JerryP I addressed this in an earlier post, but this is what I came up with. A barbed post to push into the foam, which then would allow the badge to be mounted anywhere. I like near the supplemental lights. Any way there is no foam toward the top of the grill. The screw style post then goes through the grill but the retaining nut would have to be just small enough to fit through one of the grill "holes". Left pointer finger to hold the nut, thumb to hold front of badge right pointer to hold nut then pointers working together to tighten nut. Now the grill is strong enough for this application I believe. However the badge size will have to be adjusted for such a high placement onthe grill.

So I say for versatility go with the barbed style. Wait forgot something, we could also use a deep threaded screw to really grip/bite into the foam. Lastly a barbed post that screws into the back of the badge. I don't know what else to come up with. I think behind the foam is solid sheet of metal, so even "if" we wanted to take the grill off it would still be a problem.

Any one else with a suggestion?

I agree with KarylP, any other designs shold be posted this week. I know I would like to try and have mine for Desert Thunder in March!!! Don't know if production that quick is possible but would sure like to try.
