  • I think I remember seeing push in retaining clips for the grill, going into the nose "skin". With a flash light you can look through the grill openings and see them. I saw a grill on E-bay a couple months back and it was just the chrome grill no nose. I think it might just pull off if not, possibly clips need to be pinched like the bezel. A flat head screw driver should be able to get through to squeeze it to then pull off.

I like the positioning of JerryP's badge. How ever I think at this level behind the foam is solid metal so whatever we come up with will need to fit right behind the grill or go into the foam.

    • all good ideas but i think that pimping nccc had the best so far... see post # 297

      • I think it would be hard to clip the ties off close enough to make them not noticable. Also, if you wanted to reposition it or remove it, it wouldn't be too easy.
If the grill can come off and be put back on easily, like the hood scoop bezel, then the answer might be there.
I'll ask some of the members of the Tarheel Club that have new cars what they have done. Maybe there's an easier way we've overlooked. These badges were redesigned from the original plan to accommodate the new Birds. I'll check into it.

        • i disagree... i think that an exacto or similar knife could be used to clip the ends and then you just rotate them back behind the grill itself. use same exacto to remove. the best part is they are nylon so no scratches. as far as moving or adjusting them... the nylon ties are very cheap and available at any hardware store and even mallwart (misspelled on purpose) i've found those ties to be very versatile... kind of like duct tape with no stretch or residue. it is amazing what kinds of temporary fixes you can use them for.

          • yea it would be tough to get on... but how fickle are you all... i mean how many time are you going to move it. tape it on... look at it for an hour... then strap it... we dont wat it to easy r they will disapear. my question about sticking into the foam is how good would they stick in the high winds when driving and if yall are going to be taking them in and out how is that foam going to look all ripped up... i like my idea best so far... but whoever is going ahead with the process may want to consider putting my loops in the back as well as the peices to do another application if one is decided on... it would allow people to do what they want when they get the part... just a thought.... -drew

            • It may be possible to configure the badge construction to accommodate several attachment methods. Which method is best, I don't know. The one best for me, is the one that will not allow the badge to wiggle or move. I think our grills would be in bad trouble if this is not attached firmly. It may be possible to use a toggle to attach the backing plate. This could be tightened from the front of the grill. The wing could be constructed to 'snap' onto the backing plate and thus cover the screw. Good ideas, keep them coming.

              • Can we also get a rubber die cut with maybe adhesive one side to mount on the back of the medallion? This will offer further protection for the grill from viration and rubbing.
                Just throwing out an idea.

                • Don't know about this BUT.................

Back side has 2 arms with end feet that flare towards the sides of the badge. Then slight squeeze to fit in a grill hole/space arm reaches behind grill and expands. Feet pressure hold badge to grill. Yes it will have all the rubber backing and measuring so it is a direct perfect fit into grill hole/space/honeycomb. Then to remove somehow fingers, small screw driver, remove grill to squeeze arms together and pull out.

                  Any body understand that??

                  • yes, Todd. A good idea.
It also might depend on how that assembly would attach to the back of the badge and how stable it would remain on the road. (would it eventually be susceptible to road vibration and loosen off the back of the badge?) I don't know, just trying to think of potential problems.
The greatest benefit to the badge we have now (that Jerry posted the pics of) is that it is made of only 2 very strong solid parts that are not soldered or jointed in any way and a wingnut. I think the fewer pieces and joined places (potential weak areas) the better for the long term life of the badge. No offense intended to anyone, but I'm not crazy about strapping a badge on a $40,000 car with a plastic tie-wrap. Also, I don't want anyone too close to my grill with a cutting implement.

                      • Just my opinion, but I think the badge in post 291 is too large for the grill. Would prefer it to be about 2/3 that size.

                            • I like TBird02's idea of making the badge 2/3 the size of the one Jerry has on his grill.

                              • Between 3-4 " is standard I think, I was going for a 3", no puns please

KarylP I think it would depend on the making it out of palstic or metal. I would like to think that tha arms will be part of the back plate, but would probably need to be palstic for that. Metal maybe a small tack weld?

I guess I'll take my and wait till Mondays news from the the "MOD SQUAD"

Anyone else with a design idea? Don't be afraid SPEAK UP, hurry up!
