  • Slower or Faster?

A friend of mine who has a Miata Convertible asked me if I drive faster or slower in the Birdster as opposed to my regular car.

I answered slower (though I must confess there have been times when I've 'punched' it!), as I drive the Birdster to enjoy it and feel if I go faster, i just get to where I'm going quicker and as such have less time to enjoy the drive. I'm perfectly happy to sit through a stoplight while feeling the breeze through my hair, the sun on my face and savouring the envious looks from the occupants in the surrounding cars.
So, how about it - do you feel you drive slower, faster or no different?

Slower - I'm out for a drive in my T-Bird, don't care when I get there.

No faster in speed. Just get on it once in a while to hear the Borla's and the CAI. Reminds me of the old 4 barrel and glass pack.

Faster! My daily driver is a Toyota Matrix With all those extra cylinders in the TBird I just can't seem to keep my foot out of it. Just a little zooming, it's good for the soul.

My regular vehicles for transportation are a 2011 Taurus SHO and a V-Star 1300 motorcycle ... both are much more fun to drive fast compared to the Bird. But if I want to enjoy a relaxing drive and soak up the sun, I'll drive the T-Bird.

Slower. I take the Bird when I am not in a hurry. Like to enjoy slower, relaxing drive on the nearby country roads.

The older I get the slower everything goes, me included. Sure, once in awhile I get the RPM's over 6k, and I like the Flowmaster exhaust sound especially going under a bridge. I'd be willing to bet that most of the 'get on her' people are of the younger set.

You may go slower as you get older, but my Father was the opposite. When he was in his 80's he drove so fast it made me uncomfortable to ride with him. On the other hand in 70+ years of driving, he never got a ticket and his only accident was when a deer ran into the side of his pick-up. I only wish my driving history was so good.

I believe I drive pretty much the same as I have since I turned 35. I drive my Thunderbird pretty much the same as my other vehicles - 5 mph over the posted limit on the highway, pretty much at the posted limit in town. Occasionally I'll open the Thunderbird up, but only for a short burst. When I was younger I was more reckless. There was one particular stretch of road between my farm and Raleigh that was wide, straight and empty. I used to drive it flat out for miles at a time. Probably not a great idea given the number of deer running wild in NC.

The same. It's just a daily driver to me. A beautiful DD, but a DD none the less.

A little slower, but still like to stomp on it when I can on the open highway or sometimes from light to light. It just brings back the kid in me, you know, just live a little, lol!!!!!

My Birds are cruisers so we enjoy the ride at moderate speeds, but if I want to giddy-up then I use one of the Ponies.

Faster Slower... Liz and I had Red Bird out leaf peeping here in the Adirondacks warm enough to have the top down for sight seeing.... Liz yelled at me on Rt 10 in the twisties I was only doing 80.... Slowed down and enjoyed the sun and leaves thru Speculator and Old Forge. Our T-Birds are made for this time of the year! All too soon Red Bird will be up for winter UGH :(

Mostly drive the same speed, I may get to the that speed a little quicker with the bird...... My daily driver is a 93 Crown Vic with unknow miles since the speedo stopped counting 4 years ago, I figure its got to die sometime soon so I can get something newer!!
