With all this battery talk, who still has the original battery?
My 2002 (100190) still has the original battery as does my 2004 (101034). I replaced the 2005 for Pikes Peak with a green ball, wish I had it back.

    Re: Original Battery

I still have the original battery. I keep it on a charger when not driving it. I checked the voltage the battery is still putting out over 13 volts. Bought the car Novermber 2001 so the battery is 12years old. I owned a 1995 f150 that I never used a charger on and it lasted 12years before I replaced it, but the 95 did not have the computer the T Bird has.

      Re: Original Battery

Bird was delivered in Jan 2002 in Winnipeg, not sure what original owner did with it, but I pull the battery out for the winter, sits in my basement and gets charged every couple of months and just before going back into the car when ready to come out in the spring. Still going after all these years.

Keep the battery tender on it while at rest unless I'm traveling for a show - still cranks her over no problem, plenty of power

For me it was preventative maintenance..my original was working fine, but after 10 years that was enough...peace of mind..maybe

                I'm on #3 already.

#2 lasted about 3 Years it was a Delco the only one that I could find that was vented. It was totally wrong and too weak for a V8. It turns out it was for a Solstice. Totally dead; wouldn't take a charge.

I now have a nice new "Ford" Heavy Duty in the Retro....and the beat goes on! I was surprised how competitive my Ford Dealer was @ $112.00 for this battery.

I sold a 1996 F-150 in June, 2011 with it's original battery still in it.
I had to replace the positive cable in January, 2010 because of corrosion build up, but the battery never gave me any grief. That's 15 years!

I think this thread jinxed me.
While checking the car for Tom's Cruise it refused to start.
Bought a 100 month battery from Ford today.
Now I'm concerned about the other thread on original tires.

                      Re: Original Battery

The last couple of times I started my 2003 Thunderbird, the battery seemed a bit "underpowered". Today I stopped to fill gas and then it would not start. I had my wife bring the jumper cables so I could get it started and took it over to Team Ford Lincoln. Battery was $120 and has an 8 year warranty (3 year replacement, 5 years after that prorated).

Since I figured there is a good chance I would take the car to California sometime with the holidays coming up, I opted to change the 10+ year old original tires too since I had it in the shop.

Replaced my air filter, fuel filter, and wiper blades too so this car should be good for a while.

What about the cabin filter? Going on the road like that you will be using the fresh air intake in to the cabin. You ought to have a clean filter for that too. Helps keep all the passage ways that the fresh air passes through from getting dirt & pollen & dust into them.

I have replaced all of mine this year. They were not that dirty, but I felt it was time.

I've replaced mine once in the past 12 years. The whole cabin filter idea seems kind of counter intuitive with a car that I drive with the top down 90+% of the time.

I have replaced mine twice, my car is a daily driver although it isn't driven much. My long time experience is that 5 years is enough for a given battery and a new one is cheap insurance.
